Chapter 604: Chapter 604: Return

Ivy leaned back slightly, her gaze sweeping across all three of them.

Then she spoke.

"Tell me," she said calmly, "is any one of you the leader of your group?"

Phoebe and Polly immediately shook their heads. "No."

Poppy’s expression stiffened for a brief moment.

’Damn it...’ he thought, irritation flashing in his eyes. ’I could’ve claimed it...’

Ivy noticed. And she smiled faintly.

"I have a task for you," she continued.

The room grew quieter. "A very important one."

All three of them straightened slightly, interest piqued.

"But before that," Ivy added, "you’ll need to prove your usefulness."

The three exchanged quick glances. Then...they nodded.

"We’re listening," Phoebe said.

Ivy folded her hands loosely.

"The task is simple," she said. "You will act as spies."

A pause. "You will infiltrate another base."

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

"There will be a laboratory involved," she continued. "I’ll arrange your entry. However..." her eyes darkened slightly, "you will have to endure torture."

Silence fell.

"If you complete this mission," Ivy went on calmly, "each of you will be granted permanent residency in this base. You’ll receive VIP status. You won’t have to pay for anything here... ever."

Temptation. Clear and deliberate.

"I won’t lie," she added, her voice softer but colder, "you will suffer there. But if you succeed... the rewards will be worth it."

She leaned forward slightly.

"Your goal is to gather information. Break out of the lab if you can. Bring me anything valuable."

Her lips curved faintly. "And if you do... I will reward you even further."

The three of them exchanged glances again.

This time, more serious. Phoebe was the first to speak.

"What kind of guarantee is that we will be able to break free? And why us?" she asked, her eyes narrowing slightly.

Ivy exhaled softly.

"That," she said, "is the problem."

Her gaze turned distant for a brief moment.

"This mission is extremely dangerous. Very few people have ever made it out." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Then her eyes returned to them. "Which is why I chose you."

She looked at each of them in turn.

"All three of you have experience in assassination groups before the apocalypse," she said. "You know how to survive."

A faint pause.

"I will provide you with equipment," she added. "And if things go wrong..."

Her fingers tapped lightly against the table. "There will be a device. A red button."

Her voice dropped slightly. "If you press it... I will send my people to retrieve you."

Silence lingered once more.

Polly frowned slightly, her brows knitting together as an uneasy feeling crept into her mind.

’Something... isn’t right...’

She couldn’t explain it. But instinct...was warning her.

Meanwhile, Poppy didn’t hesitate for even a second.

"I’ll do it," he said immediately, his voice filled with eagerness, almost as if he was trying to impress Ivy more than accept the mission itself.

’This is my chance...’ his eyes flickered with ambition. ’If I stand out now... she’ll notice me...’

Phoebe hesitated.

Her brows furrowed slightly.

She glanced at Polly, searching for confirmation, but when she saw that both Poppy and Polly had already agreed, she exhaled slowly.

"...Fine," she said at last. "I’m in."

Polly gave a small nod as well, though her unease hadn’t completely faded.

Ivy watched them quietly, her expression calm, almost indifferent.

"Good," she said. And with that...everything ended.

Or rather...everything began.

Before the trio could even react, before another word could leave their mouths, a strange pressure filled the room.

"What?" Poppy barely managed to utter.

Darkness. Their bodies went limp.

One by one, all three collapsed to the ground, unconscious. Ivy didn’t even blink.

She simply turned slightly, her voice steady and emotionless. "Take them."

Her subordinates stepped forward immediately. "Move them to the research lab underground."

There was no hesitation. No questions.

The three unconscious bodies were lifted and carried away.

That laboratory...it wasn’t ordinary.

It was something Ivy had personally created.

A place reserved for those who had once tormented her.

A place where roles would be reversed.

’You made me suffer...’ her gaze turned cold as she watched them being taken away, ’now... you’ll understand what that truly means...’

Just like that doctor before them... Now, it was P3’s turn.

After dealing with them, Ivy shifted her focus.

Silas

A faint tension that had been lingering inside her chest tightened again as she checked for updates. And this time...there was news.

Her people had found him. Near the outskirts of the base.

Relief washed over her instantly, though her expression remained composed.

"Send the boat," she ordered without delay.

Preparations had already been made long ago.

Ever since she had sensed the possibility of a flood, she had arranged for boats to be built.

That foresight now proved invaluable. Soon, a large boat was dispatched.

When it reached Silas and his group, they were quickly brought aboard, their smaller vessel secured and dragged along.

Back at the base, Ivy waited.

Time seemed to stretch endlessly. But the moment she saw him, jumping down safely within the protected area of her base...

The tight knot in her chest finally loosened. ’He’s safe...’

She didn’t move immediately. She waited. Waited for him to come to her.

And when he did... The moment he stepped into her residence... she didn’t hold back.

Ivy rushed forward and wrapped her arms around him tightly.

So tightly that Silas almost felt like his bones might crack under the pressure.

For a brief second, he was stunned. Then, he smiled and hugged her back.

He pulled back slightly. Then leaned in. And kissed her.

At first, Ivy stiffened, a faint blush creeping onto her face. But only for a moment.

Soon, she melted into it, her grip tightening slightly as she responded.

Time blurred.

When they finally pulled apart, both of them were slightly breathless.

Ivy looked at him, her eyes narrowing just a little.

"If I didn’t know better," she said softly, "I would’ve thought you got tired of me and decided not to come back."

Silas chuckled lightly, brushing a strand of her hair aside.
