"Kai, what’s going on?" Emma asked curiously, "You don’t like chicken?"

"I do." Kai nodded with a smile, "I love everything you make, Auntie."

"Then why... do you keep eating the skin?" Emma asked, thinking if Kai didn’t like it, she’d try a different recipe next time.

This kid, he peeled off the fried chicken wing skin and put it in his own bowl, leaving the wings to Lucy.

Lucy blushed and smiled sweetly when she heard this: "I’m afraid of gaining weight, so he helps me eat it."

Emma, upon hearing this, suddenly realized and laughed heartily, "You, always making Kai do favors for you."

Though she said that, her satisfaction with Kai only grew in her heart.

Kai ate the greasy skin and gave the meat to Lucy. This kid is really thoughtful.

"Grandma, don’t worry." Kai said, "I’ll watch over Lucy’s diet and make sure she eats if she needs to. Whether she’s thin or chubby, I love her, as long as Lucy’s happy."

These sweet words, sweeter than honey, made Old Mrs. Wells burst into a smile.

After they finished dinner, Kai helped clean up, and after sitting for a while, he bid farewell and left.

He had just gotten in the car when his phone rang. A glance at the caller ID almost startled him. He picked up the phone and asked, "Mom, what made you think to call me suddenly?"

"Hey, brother-in-law, are you asleep?" Kai asked with a laugh.

"Yeah." Charles replied, coldly cutting the conversation short like a master at ending talks.

"Um, so..." Kai scratched his cheek awkwardly and asked, "How did you feel when you met my aunt and uncle for the first time? Did you prepare anything?"

"No." Charles bluntly responded with two words.

"No way?" Kai groaned, "Weren’t you worried that my aunt and uncle wouldn’t like you?"

"Not a chance." Charles’ confident words nearly choked Kai, okay, he admitted he was out of line.

He shouldn’t have called Charles in the first place; it was like asking to be mocked.

He was genuinely worried that his eccentric parents might do something outlandish and hurt Lucy in the process.

"Go back to sleep. I’m hanging up." Kai, feeling dejected, was about to hang up when he heard Charles’s unemotional voice, "Instead of worrying about the meeting, maybe you should think about who spilled the beans about your relationship to your parents."
