Rebirth: Clinging to My Possessive Magnate
Chapter 937: Protect Yourself
Father Bright said, "After today, let’s just pretend we don’t know anything."
"The question now is, does Lucy know?" Mother Bright asked. "If you really want to marry Lucy, you should be honest with her, let the girl make her own choice about whether she can accept it or not."
"Lucy knows some of it." When he mentioned Lucy Wells, a gentle smile spread across Kai Bright’s lips.
"That’s good then." Mother Bright nodded. "Then later we’ll pick a suitable day and you two can get the engagement settled. Anyway, just get the status confirmed first, sometime soon, and then slowly pick a good day for the wedding."
"Okay." Kai Bright nodded in agreement.
"We’ll leave it at that then." Mother Bright stood up and went upstairs with Father Bright to rest.
"Mom, Dad." All of a sudden inspiration struck Kai Bright and he thought of a question. "Do you go on business trips all the time to give me space?"
He often went out on missions and wasn’t home. If his parents were around, he’d have to come up with excuses.
And the fact that his parents were away most of the year really saved him a lot of trouble.
He had always thought he was the one standing in the protector’s position. He never expected that his parents were still his parents, silently protecting him and supporting him.
Thinking of this, this man who’d shed blood but not tears felt a sting of soreness in his nose.
"Partly." Mother Bright paused in her steps and said with a smile.
Mother Bright looked at her son, now all grown up, showing such a moved expression, and she couldn’t help laughing. "Your dad and I really do love our work, too. Don’t overthink it."
"Alright, your dad and I are pretty tired, we’re going to sleep." Mother Bright waved her hand carelessly, as if they hadn’t just talked about anything major.
Kai Bright dragged his exhausted body into his bedroom. After thinking for a bit, he still ended up calling Charles Seymour. "Bro-in-law..."
Charles Seymour was just about to hang up when he heard what came next from Kai Bright: "...My parents might have guessed what I’m doing. How are they so damn smart, keeping it from me this whole time? I thought I was hiding it pretty well."
He’d really been through the wringer today.
A bit tired—more precisely, mentally exhausted.
"Bro-in-law, what do you think I should do?" Kai Bright asked with a sigh.
This time Charles Seymour didn’t mock him, he only gave Kai Bright a five-word piece of advice: "Just protect yourself well."
Kai Bright froze for a moment, then burst out laughing. "Bro-in-law, after knowing you for so many years, this is the first time you’ve seemed like a real person... You... hey, hey?"
Kai Bright held the phone up to his eyes, looked at the black screen, and cursed with a helpless grin. "Damn, hung up on me again."
Yeah, he’d been in the training camp for so many years, he couldn’t just say he was leaving. But he didn’t want his family to worry either.
The advice Charles Seymour gave really was the best.
He’d devote his golden years to serving the country, and when he got older, he could retire with honor.
While Charles Seymour was getting that call, Sophie Wilson also got a call from Lucy Wells. After listening, she couldn’t help laughing. "My aunt and uncle are hilarious. First meeting and they just went ahead and settled things for you two?"
"Yeah, you have no idea, I was totally stunned at the time. I’m still a bit out of it now." Lucy Wells chattered on the phone to Sophie Wilson. "Your mom, well, she’s a bit impatient by nature, but she’s not forceful at all. She seems really nice."
