Chapter 2304: Bait

When we left the room, the first thing that Haley did was ask the store manager, "Is everything prepared?"

The store manager didn’t hesitate as he took out some reports for Haley.

These came out of the suitcase that he had been holding the entire time, which meant that they had already prepared all of this ahead of time.

From the parts that I could see with my sharp eyes, I knew that these were reports that told everything about the companies that those clients represented.

I wasn’t able to see all of the details, but the parts that I saw were more than enough to demonstrate something.

These companies weren’t really that good.

It seemed like there were many different things that were wrong with these companies, with each of them being responsible for some kind of broken rule. But of course, they did what they had to do to hide all of this.

The companies had enough resources that they could hide all of these wrongdoings.

But the fact that they were all in these reports just went to show how extensive the information network under Haley was. They were able to dig out all of these things that should have been buried already.

Since she had these reports prepared, it didn’t seem like this was the extent of what they had prepared.

"Go and inform them that it’s time to move."

The store manager seemed a bit surprised to hear this, but he still went off to carry out Haley’s orders.

Though before leaving, he did stop and say to me, "Sorry about that. You can go home and rest now, there’s nothing else we need from you today." Then after a pause, he added, "You can go for the rest of the week, this was extra work in any case and you deserve some time off for this."

Without even waiting for a response from me, he already started walking away.

Before talking to Haley, I made sure to create a barrier around us so that no one would hear what we were saying.

"So you used me as bait?"

Haley didn’t respond as she started moving.

Seeing this, I had no choice but to follow her until she suddenly came to a stop.

Before I could react, I found that she had pulled us into a small room.

The place that we met the client was a restaurant that was under Haley as well, so she was able to bring us to a place where no one was around. Or it was better to say that this was a room that she had prepared for situations like this.

After all, she had to pull down one of the candles that was on the wall to open the door to this room.

Even so, I didn’t let my guard down as I still used the barrier to cover this room. There was no harm in putting up an extra bit of protection just in case something happened.

Once we were alone in this room, Haley finally gave a nod in response to the question that I asked earlier.

It didn’t seem like she was bothered by this with the expression on her face.

Though to be honest, it wasn’t as if I was bothered by this either.

I was her husband, so it wasn’t as if I would be angry if I could help her.

"This is something that we’ve been preparing for a long time, but this wasn’t something that I planned."

I was surprised to hear this since I thought that this was actually part of Haley’s plan. But from her words just now, it seemed like this wasn’t the case.

It seemed like meeting with the clients like this was something that the store manager had decided on his own.

"Then what happens now?"

Haley gave a sigh before saying, "We’ll have to rush things since I’ve already tipped them off, but we should be able to crush them without a problem. Most of this project had already been prepared, the only thing left was to execute them."

A wry smile appeared on my face before I asked, "Then wasn’t doing that too impulsive?"

Haley narrowed her eyes to look at me which sent a chill down my spine. Though it certainly didn’t scare me as much as what she said next, "Did you enjoy it then?"

I quickly shook my head before saying, "How could I possibly enjoy that?"

Haley kept her eyes narrowed as she looked at me, almost as if she didn’t believe me.

So I sincerely said, "I really did not enjoy that just now."

It was only then that Haley gave a nod to show that she understood, but it didn’t take long for her eyes to turn cold again as she said, "Those people that dared to touch you, I’ll make sure to make them pay."

I felt another chill run down my spine when I heard this, but then I couldn’t help thinking of something else.

With a sigh, I said, "Don’t take it out on the store manager, he was just trying to do what he could to help."

Haley narrowed her eyes to look at me once more before asking, "Are you sure that you didn’t enjoy it?"

I vehemently shook my head in response to this.

But in the end, Haley still gave a snort before saying, "While it is true that he was just trying to help, he did do something that he shouldn’t have done. I’ll make sure to punish him accordingly."

I didn’t say anything since it didn’t matter what I said.

A part of me did want to say that it was only because she charged in like that that everything became rushed like this, but I knew better than to do that.

After all, it was better that the store manager got in trouble than if I got in trouble.

So that was why I just reached my hand out for the reports to properly look over them.
