Chapter 228: Well, Would You Look at That

"They’ll be too distracted trying to deal with the chaos we’re causing to notice."

"My liege, I’m at a loss for words—your plan really is phenomenal!" said the zombie king in awe.

"Hahaha, indeed it is," he chuckled.

’That’s if I’m able to pull it off, that is. If just taking over this darn viscounty is this irritating, who knows how frustrated I’ll be when I take over the entire kingdom.’

’But this method of invasion is the safest. If I were to actually take over control of the viscounty myself and add it into my dynasty’s forces, that will definitely alert other players, since they can easily use the map interface to see how far I’m progressing.’

’For now, I’ll use this simple loophole.’

’By trying my best to take control of the leading figures within each area, indirectly making it mine.’

’And until I’m finally ready to go head-to-head with the king and other nations, that’s when I’ll reveal myself and solidify my claim over my acquired territory.’ Su Ping was practically brimming with eagerness for such a thing to happen.

’Alas, there’s one downside to this. It means the rewards I’ll gain from the system going on like this will have to come from recruited establishments.’ He sighed inwardly.

"Also, regarding what I said about creating routine groups of minions to terrorize the populace—I want you to include a lesser vampire in each group to manage the operations."

"I see, my liege. But if I may ask, is there a reason in particular for such a suggestion? Not that I’m trying to undermine your words." The zombie king was actually worried, secretly believing that his liege was beginning to favor the vampire undead species more than its own. The fact that he’d brought a pure vampire to introduce personally to them was one of the reasons why it believed so.

"There’s no need to be so nervous," Su Ping reassured the zombie king. "As for why I’d like for it to be that way, I simply don’t want the zombies and lesser zombies going too far and causing a serious incident that might attract the kingdom’s attention."

"With a lesser vampire’s human-level intelligence, they’ll be able to gauge each situation and decide the ideal time for a retreat, or how much damage is needed for a satisfactory effect."

"I understand now."

"My liege’s foresight never ceases to amaze me," the zombie king said with embarrassment before dropping to a knee. "I humbly apologize for questioning my liege’s orders."

Su Ping said nothing but merely smirked. After all, he wasn’t dumb and could already tell what the zombie king’s reason was for questioning his orders. Although having his subordinates jealous of each other was something he wished he could get rid of if he could, it seemed as of now it wasn’t possible.

Once he finished his conversation with the zombie king, Su Ping returned to the city. This time around, he was satisfied when the female enforcer knight allowed him to pass without her usual fuss.

"What’s going on?" A light frown emerged on his face when he saw a carriage in front of his home.

"Darling, you’re home." Melinda got up and hugged him the moment he stepped inside, which he reciprocated, and yet his gaze never once left the new face he saw in his living room.

"Greetings, Sir Necromancer," greeted the knight who had been seated along with Melinda moments ago. "I am a knight of the Montgomery household, here to deliver an invitation to you."

"An invitation?"

"Yes, kind sir," said the knight in a formal tone. "It appears the Viscountess would like to invite you to the estate for some tea."

Su Ping frowned. What did he mean by "some tea," he wondered. If it had been Victoria that the knight had mentioned, he wouldn’t have reacted like this, but it was none other than the Viscountess, someone who wasn’t under his control.

’Is she plotting something against me? But I don’t recall doing anything to get her attention...’ Su Ping contemplated in silence.

"Honey, I believe her ladyship simply wants to congratulate you on your meritorious deeds," said Melinda out of the blue.

"Oh?" Her suggestion sounded reasonable to him; he did save a handful of her people.

’Still though... What if it has something to do with that breeding grounds I discovered? Who’s to say she isn’t the one behind all that, or at least related to it?’

’There’s still a chance I might be walking into a trap here.’

"Honey... what’s wrong?" Melinda noticed something peculiar about her husband. Normally he wouldn’t have reacted like this, since she believed this opportunity could help him hasten his plans.

’If darling is able to get on the Viscountess’s good graces, it’d help him a lot when trying to secure more land, just like he needs,’ she thought to herself, filled with eagerness. ’So how come he’s still hesitating?’

"Could you give us a minute, kind sir?" Melinda said with an apologetic smile.

The knight simply nodded, his expression hidden beneath his helm.

But a flash of amazement peeked through his helm when a purple-black flame emerged from the lady’s palm before enclosing him in a dark sphere.

He was about to unsheathe his blade but calmed down when he realized the flames weren’t dangerous—they didn’t hurt him but instead blocked his vision and even blocked off all sound from him.

"You’ve gotten even better at controlling it."

"Whenever I have some spare time," she giggled, but then her expression turned serious.

"Why don’t you want to go? Is there something you’re not telling me?" she asked, her beautiful big eyes making it hard for him to resist.

Su Ping let out a reluctant sigh before revealing to her his real reasons. He told her about his theory that the Viscountess might be related to the incident, although he avoided going into explicit detail or giving her proper descriptions.

The last thing he wanted was for her to have nightmares of such things—especially the part of them being used as baby-making machines.
