The Broken Halo
Chapter 533: No Other Choice
Soul Mirror Demons were one of the best methods an organization or an individual could use to obtain the truth from a demon or human.
Once a Soul Mirror Demon asked a question with its distorted and disturbing voice, the mirror which was the demon’s face would show images of demon’s memories about that question.
Even if the demon was a master liar or manipulator, the demon would not be able to do anything to avoid this.
Simon knew all of these, so when he felt a strange and foreign energy intrude into his sea of consciousness and his soul at the same time, he wasn’t surprised.
He had thought of multiple ways to prevent the Soul Mirror Demon from seeing the truth, but the moment he felt the mental energy and soul energy of Elder Xyron, he knew that the chances of that happening was very little.
Simon’s main problem was the elder’s heart rank.
Elder Xyron was a Half-Step Demon Lord, and this was a rank that was too high for Simon to battle.
After becoming an Archfiend, Simon’s mental energy and sea of consciousness could actually be compared to the sea of consciousness of an average Half-Step Demon Lord.
However, one must not forget that Elder Xyron was a demon that excelled in the mind path and soul path.
Though he was a Half-Step Demon Lord, Simon was certain that Black Midnight’s sea of consciousness might not even match the elder’s.
Maybe if Simon caught him off guard with the shocking power of his mind and the unique nature of his mind, he might be able to cause some significant damage to the elder.
However, doing that was basically him screaming that he was guilty.
Simon even thought of using Hollow Sky Eye to fool Elder Xyron, but that option had far lower chances of it succeeding.
Elder Xyron’s sea of consciousness was just too powerful and sturdy for Hollow Sky Eye to work.
There was another method Simon also thought of.
It was more ingenious and less suspicious.
That was him constantly thinking of so many other things at the same time.
He tried it.
He thought of nearly everything he had experienced in this second life of his, especially his mother and her betrayal.
He tried to fill up his mind with all these thoughts, and at the same time, he made sure to not think of his past life.
However, Elder Xyron merely chuckled at Simon’s attempt.
The power of a Soul Mirror Demon was extraordinary.
It was not like Elder Xyron was going through Simon’s memories.
No.
That sort of power was on a whole different level.
Whenever a Soul Mirror Demon asked another demon or human a question, the Soul Mirror Demon’s power would track the exact memories that contained information related to that question.
It was like the memories were magnets, and the mental energy and soul energy of the Soil Mirror Demons were nails.
What Simon was essentially trying to do was to place as many disturbances and obstacles in the path of the magnet and nails.
And this actually surprised Elder Xyron since not many demons thought of doing this.
However, the difference in their abilities was just too vast.
Also, Elder Xyron was an experienced elder of the Soul Mirror Demon clan.
In a few moments, he was completely certain that he would obtain all the memories Simon had pertaining to the Devourer’s blood essence.
The images on his mirror-like face constantly flickered and was slowly becoming clearer and clearer with every passing second.
Simon frowned when he saw this.
’It seems my act of showing off my battle prowess and power has come back to bite me. If I had acted like I could not fight and kill Supreme Archfiends as a Fiend, the clan would most likely have hired a Greater Demon from the Soul Mirror Demon Clan instead of an elder.’
’They must have paid quite a lot of money to hire this old demon. And I’m also curious as to what precautions the clan took to make sure that this old demon and the Soul Mirror Demon Clan does not expose or leak the secrets of the Devourer’s blood essence.’
’Do they plan on killing him after?’
Simon inwardly shook his head and was a little bit surprised at how calm he was.
His life was in danger, but he had the time and calmness to still think of other things.
Fearlessness.
’Hmm... Should I use Eternal Mind Maze on him? The maze is nearly complete, but using it on him would mean I’m using one of my trump cards. Is it worth it?’
Simon’s eyes flickered with a calm, cold, and calculating glint as he looked at Elder Xyron.
The elder was in a focused state.
He was still conscious of his surroundings, but he was mainly focusing on extracting Simon’s memories because he had come to the horrifying realization that Simon was abnormal.
’What sort of mind does this child have? Is this the mind of a child or an old and ancient demon?’
Elder Xyron felt it was a shame.
If Simon had not fallen into the hands of the Shadowgrave Clan, he would have brought him to the Soul Mirror Demon Clan and take him as a disciple.
Unfortunately, the Shadowgrave Clan was too powerful for the Soul Mirror Demon Clan to offend.
While Elder Xyron was focusing on his task and also Simon’s unique mind, Simon’s expression slowly became indifferent.
Did he regret the choices he made from the moment he entered the Shadowgrave Clan?
No.
Did he regret the choices he made from the moment he was reborn as a demon?
No.
Could he have made better choices?
Yes. Definitely.
However, he was going to live with his choices.
And the choice he was about to make was a choice he had thought of a long time ago.
It was the only choice he had left.
It was time for him to escape the Shadowgrave Clan. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Puchi!
A black blade with a crimson edge shot out of Simon’s heart and pierced the heart of Elder Xyron.
