This Time, I Choose Humanity!
Chapter 38: Rewards
The teacher started calling the students forward one after the other to receive their rewards. According to the rules, the top 10 to 5th place would receive one mana core each.
The top four would get 2 while 3rd place would receive three mana cores. As for first and second place, they would receive four and five mana cores respectively.
Ivan had collected his mana cores and stored them away in his storage ring. When Kelvin went forward to collect his mana cores, Ivan had gotten a good look at the boy.
Tall, long black hair that reached his shoulders, and a good-looking face with a cold expression.
Likewise, Kelvin had stared briefly at Ivan. His eyes held strong determination and coldness as if telling Ivan that he wouldn’t be surpassed the second time.
Lena and Juliet also received their mana cores not long after. Since everyone in the individual ranking top 10 had received their mana cores, it was time for the rewards for the squad assessment ranking.
At this point, the teacher told the students to follow him, and he led them off the platform.
Meanwhile, somewhere inside the academy.
Mrs Avalor could be seen sitting in front of a long table, around the table were the Dean of Red Star Royal Academy and the other members of the academy’s board.
Aside from Mrs Avalor, the rest of them currently had thoughtful expressions on their faces. They had just finished listening to Mrs Avalor report about the performance of Ivan’s squad while they were inside the dungeon, and they were all impressed.
"Christopher’s kid is truly something, makes me feel like this isn’t his first time inside a dungeon even though I didn’t see it for myself." An old man with different colours of pupils voiced out with a soft smile.
"They didn’t just defeat an orc village by utilising different abilities, they defeated two orc wizards." Another person added.
"Even though one was killed in an ambush, it was still thanks to their good planning and timing. From what you said, they might have been able to go to another orc village if not for the second orc wizard."
"Mm, even when it looked like they were struggling, they always had things under control." Mrs Avalor nodded with a bright smile. Ivan and the rest of the kids really left an impression on her.
"What should we do now? Should we send out a report?" Someone asked and everyone immediately turned towards the Dean.
"No, let’s keep observing. It’s good that we now have a direction to focus on. When the Continental tournament starts next year, we’ll finally confirm if this new formation is what we’ve been looking for." The Dean shook his head and said.
After which he looked at Mrs Avalor, the Vice Dean.
"You’ve interacted more with them so I believe they’ll be more comfortable seeing you, I need you to help me pass some extra rewards to them.
The normal reward was only for destroying an orc village or almost destroying one. We didn’t expect one of the orc villages to have two wizards, which instantly doubles the danger of that village." He stated.
"Indeed, then the usual reward wouldn’t be enough for them." Mrs Avalor continued the statement with a small laugh.
While this conversation was going on, the teacher had brought the students to a building that was located close to the platform.
This building wasn’t tall and only had five rooms but each room was spacious enough to accommodate up to ten people. Two middle-aged men stood in front of the door, both of them releasing the pressure of a level 3 warrior rank.
When they had arrived with the teacher earlier, the two men bowed respectfully towards him before letting them in.
Immediately they entered the room, Ivan and the other students felt the change in the air. The amount of mana inside this building was several times more than the mana outside.
The likes of Juliet and Lucas looked around excitedly after feeling the mana around them, training inside here would speed up their growth by several times!
As for Ivan and the others from big families, they didn’t react. They were already familiar with mana chambers, after all, they had one in their homes.
"These are the mana chambers of the academy. According to the ranking of your squad, you can use them every day for the duration of time you are allowed to. Once you have no more entries, those two will send you back if you try to sneak in.
The rewards for squad assessment also promised an additional mana core for each person. Five mana cores have already been placed in each of the rooms before your arrival, so you can decide when to use them.
And before I forget, there’s a limit to how long you can stay inside the mana chamber each day to avoid harming your mana core.
Don’t be greedy." The teacher said before leaving, letting the students decide for themselves.
After the teacher left, the students glanced at each other before separating. Each squad moved toward a random mana chamber.
Ivan’s squad didn’t rush to pick a mana chamber. All of the mana chambers were the same so there wasn’t any better one. Also, their squad had the longest time of one month so they weren’t going to drag with anybody.
Soon enough, the rest of the squads had gone inside the other mana chambers and only one was left.
"Let’s go," Ivan said and walked toward the door of the mana chamber.
"Eh, you kids are already going in?"
Before they could enter the mana chamber, a familiar voice sounded from behind them.
The five of them turned around and looked at Mrs Avalor walking over with a smile that reached her eyes.
"Mrs Avalor?! Ah, sorry, I-i mean Vice Dean!" Lucas spat out in surprise and quickly covered his mouth with both hands.
"Hmm? You found out so fast already? Never mind, you can continue to address me as usual, I prefer that." Mrs Avalor made a surprised face before returning to her usual smile.
The group nodded and stared at her, waiting to know why she had come.
"Why are you all staring at me like I got you all in trouble? Actually, I’m here to give you something." Mrs Avalor giggled, she waved her hands and ten mana cores appeared above her hand.
Using her wind element, she made them fly towards Ivan and the rest. Each of them getting two mana cores each.
The students looked at the mana cores in surprise and excitement, they quickly thanked Mrs Avalor.
"Fufufu, no need to thank me. You guys defeated an orc village with two orc wizards, the usual rewards just won’t be enough.
I’ll be on my way now, you kids continue to work hard. I have high hopes for you all." She laughed before leaving.
All five of them nodded before entering the mana chamber. Just like the mana chamber in his home, the air was thick with mana and one could even see it.
Simply breathing would immediately make mana flow towards you.
"S-so much mana!" Lucas exclaimed. As for Juliet, she stared in silence but her eyes had a bright glint inside them.
Meanwhile, the five mana cores inside the mana chamber quickly caught their attention and they walked over. Each of them picked up a mana core.
At this moment, Ivan asked Aaron to bring out the three mana cores that they had gotten from the orcs.
He originally got five from coming in first place, adding to the two from Mrs Avalor and the one inside the mana chamber, Ivan now had 8 mana cores for himself.
As for these three, he threw one at Juliet and divided the other two between Aaron and Lucas.
Aaron and Lucas only had the mana cores that Mrs Avalor had given them plus the ones inside the mana chamber. Now that he had given them an extra one each, they now had four.
Lena had two from the individual ranking reward, two from Mrs Avalor, and one from the mana chamber. She was ahead of both boys by one mana core.
As for Juliet, she had four initially. One from coming in 8th place. Two from Mrs Avalor, and one from the mana chamber.
As for why Ivan had decided to give her one mana core. She was from an ordinary family so getting a mana core wasn’t going to be easy. He and the rest were from noble families so purchasing mana cores was still within their means.
"You’re giving this to me?" Lucas asked in surprise.
He could understand why Aaron and Julie got one, they had contributed greatly during the fight while he hadn’t done much.
Lucas felt that if Ivan didn’t want this mana core, Lena should have it instead; he felt too guilty to accept it.
"Take it, it’ll help your mana core to grow bigger quickly; your original 3 mana cores won’t be enough unless you want us to leave you behind," Lena said playfully.
Lucas blinked at Lena before looking back to Ivan.
"Thank you," he said sincerely.
Following Lucas, Juliet and Aaron also turned to Ivan and thanked him.
Ivan only nodded in response. He then sat down with his legs folded together, a mana core resting on his palms, and his eyes closed.
The next moment, mana began to rush towards him.
