What does he mean by this?

Janelle Mills just looked at him, feeling a bit stunned inside.

Trevor’s eyes held a rare hint of gentleness, but he quickly snapped back to reality, worried she might not be mentally prepared, worried he might scare her.

So, he retracted his gaze and smiled at her, "Hurry up and eat, or it’ll get cold." As he spoke, he picked up his chopsticks.

The girl sat down next to him and inadvertently thought about her mother’s attitude just now, worrying about him even more.

"I’m sorry." Faced with a table full of meticulously prepared dishes, the kind-hearted Janelle Mills felt indebted to him, with no appetite and a terrible mood.

Money isn’t the issue; the main thing is his time, which must be very precious.

"Don’t say such things anymore." Trevor, to make her feel better, casually told her, "No need to feel indebted, we can consider it a fair exchange. I’ll pick you up at the hotel at 2 PM tomorrow."

Janelle Mills immediately snapped out of the illusion of love. A fair exchange? These four words stirred a hint of disappointment in her heart.

"Okay." She replied softly; she wouldn’t refuse this matter, having promised Ethan, after all, and having taken up his time today.

The atmosphere at dinner was a bit cool, with Trevor not speaking, and Janelle unsure of what to say.

However, she always had a doubt inside her: In his heart, is this just a fair exchange?

But he just said he wanted to help her handle it together and wasn’t afraid of getting involved.

So, what exactly is he thinking?

Why was there a moment that felt so much like love, but sometimes it’s so cold?

After dinner, Trevor drove her back to the hotel; they didn’t have much exchange on the way.

Only when getting out of the car, Trevor reminded her, "See you at 2 PM tomorrow."

"Alright." Janelle Mills waved at him, "Drive safely." Then watched the car drive away.

The girl put away her smile, took a deep breath, and took out her phone to find a string of missed calls, all from her father!

A total of 48!

She didn’t hurry upstairs but called her father back downstairs at the hotel, "Hello, Dad."

"Janelle, what’s going on? I’ve been calling, and you didn’t answer." The anxious voice of the middle-aged man came through.

"The phone was on silent."

Hearing that his daughter was fine, he breathed a sigh of relief and incredulously asked, "Your mom also went to Riventhal? What’s she doing there?"

"It’s a long story. Where are you?" Janelle wasn’t in a good mood and wanted to talk to someone.

Her father gave her an address and asked for her specific location, understanding that his daughter wanted to meet.

So Nathan Mills said, "Find a café nearby; I’ll be there soon."

"Is it convenient for you so late?" Janelle asked gently; he is married and has a wife at home.

"Huh?" The middle-aged man was initially unresponsive, but then said, "Of course it’s convenient; why wouldn’t it be? I’ll be there right away; wait for me."

"Okay."

After the call ended, Janelle Mills glanced toward the hotel, then turned and went to a nearby café.

Soon, Nathan Mills drove over and quickly entered the café, where he saw his daughter.

"Dad." Janelle Mills held a coffee cup, looking at him with some worry; it had been a long time since this father and daughter had seen each other.

The middle-aged man sat across from her and directly asked, "Where are you staying?"

"A nearby hotel."

"When did you come?" He spoke with concern.

"It’s been a few days." Janelle Mills told him about her mother setting her up on a date with Julian Hawthorne and her own affection for Trevor, so she asked Trevor to be a shield.

And how her mother initially agreed to her being with Trevor, but the matter fell apart because of her father’s phone call.

The daughter didn’t place blame, just told the facts plainly and wanted to find a solution.

Nathan Mills listened intently, finally feeling very upset, "I’m sorry."
