Janelle Mills’ heart tightened, instinctively leaning closer to Trevor. She felt a chill. "Did we not check the almanac before going out today? Why do we keep encountering things like this?"

Trevor glanced sideways to meet her gaze, momentarily unsure of what to say. "Don’t worry, everything has a reason. With me here, you won’t run into trouble."

He actually felt today hadn’t started off smoothly either.

The air here seemed to be filled with something, making people uneasy, with a faint sense of foreboding.

"But our small town usually has very good public order, it feels like a harmonious society where you can leave your doors unlocked at night."

The inn owner, carrying a suitcase, walked ahead and said to them, "You don’t need to worry too much. This might just be a prank between a couple. The girl deliberately hides to test her boyfriend’s love. Today’s young people don’t know their limits, and often take it too far."

"Even jokes should be taken with moderation!" Janelle Mills frowned, criticizing, "If that’s true, the girl must be out of her mind! She even alarmed the police! The police are busy enough as it is!"

The inn owner stopped talking, perhaps realizing that this wasn’t a normal prank.

While walking, Trevor watched the surroundings closely. With his experience, he knew things were never as simple as they appeared.

If it alarms the police, it means it’s not a prank between lovers.

There are quite a few tourists to the old town, as well as some who come for business, a mix of people.

Moreover, across the river is a street lined with bars, where people of all kinds appear at night.

Young, beautiful girls, in various unfortunate circumstances, are easily hurt; it’s a matter of luck.

"Please follow me, your reserved inn is just over there, about three minutes away." The inn owner carefully instructed, hoping they wouldn’t have a bad impression of the old town.

Trevor and Janelle Mills started walking forward with him.

Along the way, they saw police conducting interviews and heard some of the locals’ gossip—

"Vanished into thin air in broad daylight; could they have entered a black hole?"

"Taken by ghosts, perhaps? After all, similar incidents happened ten years ago."

"How could there be ghosts in this world?"

An older man said, "There are some things you’d rather believe exist than not."

"Such disappearances could very likely be the work of a criminal gang; organ trafficking in the black market isn’t impossible," another person shared their opinion. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Upon hearing this, Janelle Mills felt an icy chill run through her, her heart growing cold.

Trevor held her shoulders as she instinctively leaned further into him. Janelle turned her eyes, puzzled, asking, "How could someone just vanish into thin air like this?"

"The police will give an answer; they won’t let public opinion run wild," Trevor said. "Justice will prevail over evil. Let’s hope the girl is safe."

"Mmm!" She sighed internally, "Girls are always the weaker group."

Trevor, walking and glancing at her, asked, "Really? Hearing such news fills you with fear?"

"I’m quite scared." She admitted without hesitation, "When I was little, reading ’Do You Know Why,’ the part about aliens made me afraid to go out at night! As soon as it’s dark, I feel wrapped by fear, as if aliens are about to come and take me away!"

Is that so? Trevor’s lips slightly curved, and he redirected his gaze.

And around them, police continued their interviews, indicating an unusual situation.

There were still various people discussing, each expressing their views, making the situation sound more and more mystical, reaching the point of ghost and spirit theories, leaving all who listened shivering at the spine.

Walking further, Trevor stopped, releasing his grip.
