Twin Treasures: The CEO Wife's 99-Day of Revelations
Chapter 1422: Where Have I Seen You Before?
Early in the morning, in the room next door.
Last night, Vera Ford took a handful of white pills before bed, so she slept quite soundly.
She got up and put on a long black coat, the kind with a hood, just in case she needed to hide her face.
She couldn’t sit still and decided to go downstairs to check things out, especially to see Ian Shelby.
Earlier, she had ordered some takeout, finished breakfast, and now she was standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom, applying lipstick.
The way she applied it was quite skillful, in a victor’s stance, her eyes sharp and cold.
After getting up, Vera also saw the busy salvage team on the river, looking like they couldn’t even find a body. She thought they were useless and couldn’t help but feel a bit proud.
Jocelyn Morgan had clearly been pushed into the river by her, screamed in panic, and she clearly heard a splash.
So, in Vera’s view, Jocelyn Morgan was definitely dead!
And the death would be hideous! If they couldn’t fish her out, she would rot at the bottom of the river, eaten clean by fish and insects, leaving only bones behind.
Thinking about this, the sense of satisfaction in Vera’s heart was indescribable.
With her lipstick applied and staring coldly at her own pale face in the mirror, she curled her lips into an eerie, cold smile, then pulled the hood of her coat over her head and left.
A moment later, the lights went out as she left and the sound of the door closing was heard.
Next door, Janelle Mills had also finished her breakfast.
She went to the bathroom to brush her teeth; she didn’t put on any makeup and just tidied up her hair.
After grabbing her phone, pulling out the door card from the wall, she too headed downstairs.
She left about two minutes after Vera Ford, so they didn’t meet immediately.
Janelle was wearing high heels, and her feet didn’t hurt at all. She held onto the railing, taking special care as she descended the stairs.
Thinking of Trevor’s advice, she felt warmth in her heart; he seemed to care about her, didn’t he?
Arriving on the first floor of The Riverside Inn, Janelle walked out the glass door and headed right. She had checked the navigation earlier; the café was at the end, about a hundred meters away.
The winter wind was a bit chilly, blowing fiercely.
She glanced up at the sky, the clouds were hanging low, it seemed like it was going to rain again.
The entire ancient town felt shrouded in sadness.
It was a not-so-wide alley, with various inns branded The Riverside Inn on one side, all similarly laid out, and high stone walls on the other side.
Janelle moved forward.
It was very quiet here; occasionally, some fashionable young couples would come and go from the inn, hand in hand, looking blissfully happy.
"I heard that the missing girl still hasn’t been found? Honey, do you think she really traveled through time?"
"Do you really believe in such miraculous powers?"
"What’s there not to believe? The world is full of wonders. Maybe fifty years later, that girl comes back and her boyfriend is an old man."
Hearing the conversation of the young couple passing by, Janelle took a deep breath and couldn’t help but quicken her pace.
The café was at the end of this row of The Riverside Inn; about a hundred meters of walking would reach it.
Beyond the end was a pier, with a row of railings by the water, offering an unobstructed view of the river.
When Janelle saw the café’s sign, she hadn’t reached the door yet, which meant she hadn’t checked if Trevor and his men were inside.
She immediately spotted a woman in a black coat standing by the river, wearing a hood.
And that woman, unintentionally turned her gaze, happened to see Janelle.
Vera Ford’s heart skipped lightly; her cold eyes narrowed slightly.
Janelle paused in her steps, that woman seemed so familiar, where had she seen her before... Suddenly she remembered, in Riventhal!
But what was she doing here? And alone again, this woman still gave her an eerie, cold feeling.
Vera Ford knew Janelle had recognized her, her eyes instantly flashed with a hint of murderous intent! She stared coldly at her without blinking!
