World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 65: Plaza Hotel
A strange black bus slowly pulled down the road leading to Manhattan Center. Usually, the journey would have taken half an hour at max, but the crashed cars on the road caused delays to their journey.
A few zombies tried running after the bus, but they were easily taken down by the breathtaking lady who sat in the bus.
Selene had her eyes closed, resting her head against the window.
From a coffee shop across, two zombies wearing bloodstained aprons rushed out and charged at the moving bus.
They stubbornly chased after the vehicle, and eventually caught up when Richard faced a blockage while driving.
The two zombies rushed at the bus and immediately got skewered by the spikes.
One zombie had its head pierced, and died on the spot. The other zombie was luckier, only having its torso and arms pierced.
However, not even two seconds later, a small ice spike drilled through its head, killing it instantly.
The bus continued to move, ignoring the corpses attached to it. Eventually, the corpses fell off to the streets to rot and decay.
After driving for an hour, they could finally see the central park in the distance.
At the same time, everyone in the bus felt a subtle chill wash over them. Richard slowed the bus to a halt, and everyone leaned towards the windows, their attention drawn to a figure hundreds of meters away from them.
They could see the silhouette of a gigantic wolf standing on top of an abandoned skyscraper, silently staring down at the city.
Selene’s eyes narrowed, her muscles coiling with tension. Everyone felt the same, as they clearly remembered the dreadful presence of the mutated silverback gorilla.
She glanced at Leon, noticing that his expression didn’t change. His eyes simply narrowed. And the way he looked at the wolf...
’Is he... disappointed? What a weirdo.’
Turning to Richard, she said, "Stop the bus over here. We’re going to be staying at this Plaza Hotel for tonight."
Richard blinked, "Wait, really? It’s a five-star hotel!"
"I told you," Reymond grinned faintly as they got down from the bus. "Though, it’d have been nicer if we could have been here together before the apocalypse started."
Miguel smiled faintly, glancing at the distant skyscraper. The wolf was still there, making everyone wonder how it got to that place.
Little West growled as it looked up at the wolf too, its whiskers twitching.
"Calm down, it hasn’t noticed us," Richard said to it, gently rubbing its fur.
Selene also took one last look at it, then walked inside the hotel. The three ordinary students immediately followed her, along with Gwen, Fel, Marie, and Cassie.
"Hey, do you think it’s safe?" Reymond asked, turning to Leon.
The black-haired guy gave the wolf a long stare, then shook his head.
"I can’t say for sure. But I know that wolves mark their territory. Its territory doesn’t expand to this area. So you can say it’s safe."
Behind him, Richard and Miguel nodded, understanding his theory.
"Did the Student Union President think of that too? Wow, she’s so sharp." The beast tamer commented in awe.
Slinging an arm over his shoulder, Reymond smiled proudly.
"Of course. I always hope to catch up to her intelligence someday. That’s why she was made the president after all."
"Quit the yap," Leon said as he turned to the bus. "We’re carrying the ammunition inside."
The other three guys immediately got to work, and they began carrying the crates of bullets and guns into the hotel.
After emptying the bus, they also went inside to meet up with Selene and the others.
As they climbed up the stairs, they could see zombie corpses with ice spikes in their heads or limbs.
"So nowhere in this world was untouched." Reymond sighed, looking at the luxurious interior of the building.
Usually, a hotel as great as this would have been kept in pristine condition. However, after almost a month in the apocalypse, all it had was bloodstains, corpses of people who had once lodged there, and dust accumulated over time.
They all paused at the third floor as it had fewer corpses, and most of the rooms were untouched.
"Does anyone know how to load a gun?" Leon asked as he crouched beside a crate.
Reymond immediately walked over, "I have experience."
Crouching beside Leon, he picked up a gun and observed it. With practiced movements, he loaded the rifle, chambered a bullet, and tested the safety. A faint smile crossed his face as the familiar weight settled comfortably in his hands.
"It’s this simple."
Leon blinked in surprise, then tried it too. "Good?"
"Yeah. You’re a quick learner," The brown-haired guy praised.
Leon merely nodded, then continued setting the other guns. After preparing twelve pistols, he handed one to each person.
"It’s probably unnecessary, but extra protection isn’t too bad."
Selene agreed with a nod as she felt the familiar shape of the gun in her hand. It reminded her of her childhood where her father had...
’No, I don’t want to think about it.’
Shaking her head inwardly, she turned to Gwen.
"You’ll be handling the food with Marie, right?"
"Sure," Gwen replied with a thumbs-up. "We should at least fill our stomachs tonight."
Hours later, they had settled comfortably into the hotel, and after dinner, everyone went to their respective rooms to rest. Meanwhile, Little West kept watch by patrolling the floors of the hotel.
In his room, Leon put on his armor again, strapped the pistol to his waist, and stepped out of the room.
"Hm? What are you planning, Little Leon?" Thyra asked as she stepped beside him.
He didn’t answer her. Instead, he headed towards the stairs and made his way down to the ground floor. Although it was unfortunate that the elevators no longer functioned, he was already used to staircases anyway.
’If I want to kill a wyvern, then I should... hm?’
Just as he stepped into the reception hall, he saw a feminine figure standing by the door, her silver hair fluttering faintly in the wind.
The moonlight fell on her face, making her look like a serene fairy of the starry nights.
Leon paused and admired her for a few seconds. Then, she turned to face him, her expression cold.
"Where are you going at this hour, Leon?"
