He Proposed to His First Love, So I Married His Archenemy
Chapter 153: She Lost to Hannah Abbott
Probably because she was being forced to do this for the money, Megan Hughes wore an eye mask for the entire trip, clearly in a terrible mood.
Yvonne Sutton, on the other hand, couldn’t stop sneezing. Her head ached a little, a sure sign she was coming down with a cold.
"Let me take you to a hospital first," Wyatt Shaw said with concern.
"It’s fine." Yvonne rubbed her nose. "It’s just a little cold. Once we get to Veridia Village, I’ll find a pharmacy and get some medicine."
Wyatt watched as every sneeze brought tears to her eyes, her nose rubbed raw and red. A thought crossed his mind, and his gaze deepened.
"Every time after we... you look so pitiful like this. It just makes me want to bully you all over again," he said with a dark chuckle.
It took Yvonne a moment to understand, but when she did, her face flushed red. She reached out and pinched his waist, hard.
"You animal!"
"Tonight, you and I can..."
"Shut up!"
"I was going to say we could watch the stars."
Yvonne cleared her throat. "Who wants to watch them with you? I’ll—I’ll watch them myself."
"I want to watch them with you. Only with you can I see the most beautiful scenery."
Yvonne turned to see Wyatt’s roguish grin and decided to simply ignore him.
After listening to them the whole way, Megan Hughes finally couldn’t take it anymore. "Can you two save the lovey-dovey stuff for when you’re alone? Have some consideration for the elderly!"
"Ms. Hughes, you’re hardly elderly. You’re only forty-nine years and eleven months old," Wyatt teased deliberately.
Megan didn’t hold back. She leaned over and smacked Wyatt on the back of the head.
"You little brat, I changed your diapers! Now you’re all grown up and think you can flirt with women right in front of me."
That one sentence shut Wyatt up completely. He didn’t dare make another wisecrack.
Seeing him put in his place, Yvonne couldn’t help but stifle a laugh.
By the time they returned to Veridia Village, the sky had already darkened.
Wyatt parked the car outside the lot the production team had rented. Before getting out, he reminded Yvonne to wait for him so they could go to the village pharmacy together.
Yvonne agreed and got out of the car. She and Wyatt helped Teacher Hughes get her luggage. Just then, someone emerged from the main courtyard. Seeing them, she didn’t approach, but instead stood under the large floodlight the production crew had installed.
She had fiery red short hair, a leather tube top, a leather miniskirt, and smoky eyeshadow. There were studs on her lip, her nose, and even her eyebrow.
Her eyes lit up when she saw Wyatt, but she stayed where she was, arms crossed, waiting for him to come to her.
Candice Yates was imitating Hannah Abbott. She used to be a thirty-percent match, then an eighty-percent match after she started following Wyatt around. Now, it was probably a perfect one-hundred percent, considering she’d even gotten holes drilled in her face.
"Who’s this?" Megan Hughes asked. "Dressed like a turkey."
Yvonne was about to answer but was overcome by a sneeze.
At that moment, she saw Wyatt drop the suitcase. His pupils constricted as he stared intently at Candice. Then, step by step, he walked toward her.
"Wyatt," Yvonne called out instinctively, but he didn’t respond.
The mountain wind was a bit cold, making her shiver as it hit her. She couldn’t stop a series of sneezes that brought tears to her eyes and made her head feel even fuzzier.
But she could clearly see the two of them under the floodlight, locked in an embrace, and she saw the triumphant smile Candice shot in her direction.
"Huh, I thought you two were a couple, but I guess not. So why was he teasing you in the car earlier? What a scumbag," Megan Hughes said with a frown.
Yvonne took a deep breath and forced a smile at Megan. "Teacher Hughes, let me help you inside first."
Yvonne helped Megan pull her suitcase into the courtyard. As they passed Wyatt and the other woman, the two were still holding each other tightly.
Megan shot Wyatt a glare. "Scumbags never get a happy ending."
When Yvonne brought her in, a staff member hurried over, took the suitcase from her hands, and squeezed her to the side.
Daisy Shaw had also come out. She saw Megan and asked awkwardly, "You’re here?"
Megan ignored her completely and walked straight inside. "Let me tell you all something. I’m not here on this show to make up with anyone. She knows what she did to me, and I will never, ever forgive her in this lifetime."
The words were directed at the staff, but they were clearly meant for Daisy.
Daisy pursed her lips upon hearing this. "That’s what I should be saying to a certain someone! She knows what she did to me!"
The two of them locked horns the moment they met, making the on-site staff so nervous that no one dared to make a sound.
When Yvonne came out of the courtyard, Wyatt and Candice were no longer at the entrance. She went back to her room and lay down. She was exhausted and felt awful; she thought a little sleep might help.
But after only a short while, she woke up feeling miserable. Her whole body was sore and weak, her head throbbed as if a drill were boring into it, and she felt like she was being roasted over a fire.
She reached up to feel her forehead. Sure enough, she had a fever.
As a doctor, she knew the danger of letting a fever go untreated. She forced herself to get up, put on a heavy coat, and went out to buy medicine. Once outside, she heard laughter and looked back up the mountain toward a farmhouse.
It had a large terrace where Wyatt had set up the astronomical telescope they had bought together. Candice was bent over, looking through it and exclaiming in awe.
"Wow, I can see the moon! I can’t believe its surface looks like this. It’s incredible."
"Can I see other stars?"
"Wyatt, hurry and adjust it for me! I want to see Saturn!"
Wyatt had an indulgent look on his face. When Candice pushed him toward the telescope, he obediently helped her adjust its direction.
Yvonne turned and continued on her way, a bitter smile touching her lips.
’She hadn’t lost to Candice; she had lost to Hannah. And because Hannah was already dead, Yvonne could never win against her.’
’These past few days, Hannah hadn’t made an appearance, so it felt like she had occupied Wyatt’s heart again. But the moment Hannah reappeared, Yvonne was pushed right back out.’
’Everything she did was futile. It was an unsolvable problem.’
The small mountain village didn’t have many streetlights. After stumbling several times, Yvonne regretted not borrowing a flashlight from the staff.
She wasn’t even sure if there was a pharmacy in the village. She wanted to ask someone, but all the villagers had gone home to rest; no one was outside.
She continued walking into the village when she heard footsteps behind her. She turned to see a man staggering along, looking like he’d been drinking.
Yvonne’s guard went up, and she quickened her pace. The drunkard behind her also sped up, even breaking into a run.
"Hey, little lady, wait for me. I—HIC—I just want to say something to you."
Yvonne didn’t stop. Seeing the drunkard getting closer, she started running too.
"Don’t run! I just want to talk to you. HIC. What are you afraid of?"
"I’m not a bad guy. My house is just up ahead. Why don’t you come over for a drink of water?"
"If you keep running, I’m definitely going to catch you!"
Seeing the drunkard pick up his pace again, Yvonne was terrified and ran with all her might.
She was weak, her head was spinning, and the dirt road was full of potholes. She tripped and fell to the ground. But ignoring the pain, she gritted her teeth, got back up, and kept running.
"Is anyone there? Anyone?"
But there was only the cold, whistling wind. There was no one around.
She glanced back at the drunkard. He was right behind her, a creepy grin on his face as he reached out to grab her.
