Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Inexplicably Became Stewart Pace’s Girlfriend

Yvonne Sutton saw a small shop up ahead with its lights still on, so she gritted her teeth and ran toward it.

The man was close enough to touch her. He managed to grab her arm a few times, but she shook him off each time.

Just as she was about to reach the shop, a middle-aged man came out carrying a box of goods. The moment she saw him, she cried out for help.

The middle-aged man quickly put down what he was carrying, ran over to Yvonne Sutton, and pulled her behind him. Then, he sent the drunkard chasing her flying with a single kick.

"Deuce Ward, have you drunk yourself stupid? You looking to spend a few days in a jail cell?"

The drunk was sent tumbling across the ground. When he got up and saw the man, he immediately cowered and ran off with his tail between his legs.

Just then, a woman came out of the small shop. "Pace, what’s going on?"

"Deuce Ward was scaring people again," the man replied, then turned to look at Yvonne Sutton. As he did, he couldn’t help but size her up.

Yvonne Sutton was still shaken from the ordeal, and with the added fever, she was struggling to stay on her feet.

"Hello, I... I was trying to find a pharmacy to buy some medicine. Could you tell me..."

"Dr. Sutton!" The man, finally certain, cried out in excitement.

"Dr. Sutton? Which Dr. Sutton?" the woman asked, running over with a puzzled expression. But when she saw Yvonne Sutton’s face, her expression turned to one of delight. "Oh my, it really is Dr. Sutton! What brings you all the way out here?"

Yvonne Sutton looked at the couple, but perhaps because she was so dizzy, she couldn’t recognize them at all.

"I’m Stewart Pace’s father!" the man said excitedly.

"And I’m his mother!" Stewart Pace’s mom added, pleasantly surprised.

Their reminder jogged Yvonne Sutton’s memory, and she finally recognized them.

A few days ago, Stewart Pace had been hospitalized after being hit by a motorcycle. She was the one who had called to notify them. She had even waited for them to rush to the hospital from their hometown and explained the situation to them before leaving.

Everything had been so rushed back then that she hadn’t gotten a good look at their faces. She never expected to run into them here. She seemed to recall Stewart Pace mentioning that his family lived in the mountains, and he might have even said Veridia Village, but she hadn’t made the connection.

"It’s good to see you both," Yvonne Sutton said quickly.

"Oh my, why is your face so flushed?" Mrs. Pace felt her forehead and gasped. "Heavens, you’re burning up! Pace, run to the clinic and get Dr. Miller!"

Mr. Pace nodded and hurried off to find the doctor. Mrs. Pace helped Yvonne Sutton into the house and asked what had brought her to their little mountain village.

"Did something happen to Stewart?"

"No, I’m here for work."

"That’s a relief. Still, it’s dangerous for a young woman like you to come to such a remote place all by yourself. You should have waited until Stewart was better and out of the hospital so he could have come with you."

Mrs. Pace helped her to the sofa and poured her a cup of hot water.

"Thank you."

"Don’t thank me. We’ll be one big family soon enough."

Yvonne Sutton was stunned for a moment. ’What did she mean by that?’

"My Stewart, he might not be the brightest, but he’s an honest man. Dr. Sutton, I can guarantee you, he will never bully you. If he dares, you just tell me, and I’ll beat him up for you."

The more she listened, the less sense it made. So, when a customer came into the shop and Mrs. Pace went to the front to help them, she seized the opportunity to call Stewart Pace.

"My parents were forcing me to come home for a blind date. I had no other choice, so I lied and told them I already have a girlfriend. They saw you at the hospital that day and asked if it was you, and... I just nodded."

"You just nodded?" Yvonne Sutton was so exasperated she coughed.

"Look, you have to help me cover for this. If you don’t, they’ll drag me back home for blind dates, and I won’t be able to return to Aethelgard or work for you anymore. You wouldn’t do that to me, would you?"

"Yes, I would."

"Yvonne, you’re so heartless! Don’t forget, the reason I was in the hospital in the first place was because of you!"

That shut Yvonne Sutton up. Stewart Pace had indeed gotten hurt because of her, and she did feel she owed him.

Now that she understood the situation, when Mrs. Pace came back into the room, Yvonne could only nod along to whatever strange things she said. Still, Mrs. Pace’s overwhelming enthusiasm made her feel guilty.

Fortunately, it wasn’t long before Mr. Pace returned with the doctor from the village clinic.

He gave her an injection, prescribed some medication, and instructed her to come to the clinic for another shot the next day.

After the doctor left, Yvonne Sutton rested on the Paces’ sofa for a while. As her fever began to subside, she started to feel less miserable.

"Dr. Sutton, why don’t you stay the night here?" Mrs. Pace offered warmly.

Yvonne Sutton quickly shook her head. "I should get back to the crew. Uh, I still have some work I need to do."

"But you can’t work yourself sick."

"Alright, Dr. Sutton is busy with work, so let’s not keep her. But you must come over for dinner tomorrow, Dr. Sutton. Let Stewart’s mother make you some of her specialty dishes."

Seeing the hopeful expressions on the older couple’s faces, Yvonne Sutton found it impossible to refuse.

"Okay."

Mrs. Pace was still worried, so she had Mr. Pace walk Yvonne Sutton back to where she was staying.

Yvonne Sutton thanked Mr. Pace and entered the courtyard, only to find Daisy Shaw and Megan Hughes on opposite sides, pointing fingers and arguing with each other.

"I must have been blind to ever be friends with you! Daisy Shaw, you just married well! That’s the only reason you got so many good opportunities. What real talent do you have? Your acting is an absolute train wreck!"

"I helped you so much back then, but instead of being grateful, you publicly slandered me and cost me the Best Actress award that year! Megan Hughes, I thought that now that we’re older, we could let some things go, but you’re just as petty as ever. You brought your current situation entirely upon yourself!"

Their insults were vicious, each one aimed squarely at the other’s sore spot.

Yvonne Sutton rubbed her forehead. She had no energy to play mediator right now. Especially not when she saw Wyatt Shaw and Candice Yates over there, stargazing. ’I must have nothing better to do if I’m getting involved in this mess,’ she thought.

With that thought, she skirted around them and went straight to her room.

The official shoot was scheduled to start the next day. Yvonne Sutton hadn’t planned on going up the mountain with them, but Daisy Shaw dragged her along.

"Yvonne, let me tell you something. Wyatt might have lost his mind, but we haven’t. That Candice Yates woman is just using her resemblance to Hannah Abbott and mimicking her to turn Wyatt’s head. He doesn’t actually like her."

Yvonne Sutton sighed. "Wyatt Shaw and I are already divorced. Who he’s with has nothing to do with me."

Seeing the unhappy look on Yvonne Sutton’s face, Daisy Shaw assumed she was upset about Wyatt Shaw and Candice Yates.

"You’re right. If he insists on going down this wrong path, then I’d advise you to move on from him, too. But what he does doesn’t matter. Hank Sutton and I only acknowledge you. If you can’t be our daughter-in-law, then be our goddaughter. When we get back to Aethelgard, we’ll hold a proper ceremony. The Rhodes family fortune can go to Wyatt, but everything that’s mine, I’ll give it all to you."

Seeing Daisy Shaw’s serious expression, Yvonne Sutton quickly said, "You must be saying that because the anger has gone to your head."

"My head is perfectly clear. I know what I’m saying, and I choose you." Daisy Shaw pulled Yvonne Sutton closer and whispered, "I’m telling you, I have a lot of assets to my name. I have no use for them. Who else would I give them to if not you?"

Yvonne Sutton just smiled, not taking her words seriously.

"Alright, if you insist on giving them to me, how could I possibly refuse?"

She then tried to persuade Daisy Shaw to have a proper talk with Megan Hughes. After all, wasn’t the whole point of her joining this show to resolve the bad blood between them? If they kept arguing like this, the resentment would only deepen.

"Sigh. I’m starting to think this was a bad decision."

Yvonne Sutton let out a soft sigh. Just then, she saw Wyatt Shaw walking toward her.
