INTERSTELLAR ERA: MY MIND IS A LIBRARY - Chapter 53: PAYING BETS
Max shook his head. "It is your skill. I can’t tell you what to do with it."
"Yep," Silas said, a smile still plastered on his face.
"So, what is he offering in return?" Max asked with furrowed brows.
To him, only a mid grade planet could be at least of comparable worth to her skill.
"Assistance in advancing to tier 2 citizen," Silas said.
Max looked at Billie, who sat calmly, looking like the entire conversation was not her concern.
"So you are willing to use your skill for a chance to enter the Imperial Academy," Max said.
He knew of Billie’s long term dream of entering the Imperial Academy.
But she just couldn’t meet the talent grade requirement.
She could only go for the other option, trying to enter by passing the supplementary exam.
The problem there, however, was that it was only available to Level 2 and above citizens.
She was only Level 1, with no clear advancement method within the next thousand years.
But after hearing that Silas was already a Level 3 citizen, she knew he could help her. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Well, fulfill your bets then. I would be waiting," Max said, resting his back against the chair.
I was fucking waiting for the next recharge to try it, Max cried in his mind. But his exterior was calm.
Billie looked at Silas, then raised her hand over his head.
"Keep in mind, it only has a 0.01% chance of working, so you still have to grant mine even if it does not work," Billie warned.
"Yes, just use it."
She nodded and activated her skill.
A flash of golden light covered her palm, then began to envelop Silas from his head.
It moved slowly towards his feet.
Silas’s eyes widened. His aether stirred wildly from the influx of energy in his body.
His core began to solidify itself.
Boom.
Before the explosion could travel further, Max skillfully isolated the space.
"Hey, you can’t destroy my office the same way you did with the training ground," he said even though none of them heard him.
"He broke through," he muttered, picking his book back up.
The process continued, not having a clear ending in sight.
Billie’s face was already getting pale, her eyes burned with a golden light.
After what felt like an eternity but was only 5 minutes, the light died down.
Billie collapsed on the chair, her body drained completely.
"Are you okay?" Silas asked with concern.
Billie nodded. "Once I get a potion, I should be fine."
Not letting her complete her sentence, a potion appeared in Silas’s hand.
"Here, take this," he said.
Billie bowed and collected the potion.
While she downed it, Silas noticed the change in his body.
"It worked," he muttered with a bright smile. "I broke through to the Marshal rank."
"I am surprised, you are the third person it has worked on," Billie said with a smile.
"I am quite lucky, you know," Silas said with a smug smile.
Billie nodded in response, not offering more words.
"So, when is the next time you can use it?" Silas asked.
"In a thousand years. It should have recharged fully by then."
"Hmm, okay. Now, it’s your turn," Silas said, browsing through the wealth of deduced knowledge in his mind.
It ranged from cultivation knowledge to scientific knowledge.
This should do, Silas thought.
He uploaded the knowledge to Rion and sent it to Billie.
"You can upload this to Gaia to see if it is enough to advance to Level 1 citizen," Silas said.
Billie nodded, checking the content of the folder Silas had sent to her.
She did not understand a thing there, only saw the title, Fundamentals of Material Science.
"Leo, upload it," she gave a mental command.
A familiar screen appeared in her face and she set it to private knowledge.
Although Silas had given it to her in exchange for her skill, she could not let something he had discovered over thousands of experiments become something anyone could use.
If Silas knew of her thoughts, he would have laughed. That was just one of the many things he had deduced while he was sleeping.
Soon, a notification came.
[You have advanced to Level 3 citizen.]
[You have advanced to Level 1 Scientist.]
The screens appeared in her face, detailing her advancements and the benefits of advancing.
Her eyes widened in surprise.
She looked at Silas like he was a monster.
Who went around casually handing someone enough knowledge to make them advance to Level 3 citizen and Level 1 Scientist?
"It seems like it worked," Max said, closing his book and setting it on the table.
"You are going today. You’ve spent too long lingering around. And I don’t want any more devious spars like this," Max said with a commanding voice.
Both of them nodded and began to walk out.
As the elevator doors almost closed, Max spoke.
"Congratulations on your advancement and gain, Silas."
Silas looked through the narrow opening in the elevator and nodded his head.
The elevator doors chimed open.
At the door, the rest of the squad stood, each one carrying their luggage.
"Are you okay now?" Lilura asked Silas as she walked closer.
Silas nodded and walked away.
"Let me go get my things. I would meet you guys by the plane," Silas said before he walked up the stairs.
Unlike him, who felt obliged to tell them, Billie left without even batting an eye at their existence.
As Silas walked up the staircase, a grin was on his face as he rubbed his hands together.
"Let’s see what I got from her skill," he said, trying to focus on his mind.
This was a method Max had taught him. All those who awakened a skill on their planet had something they called the system, which showed the names of their skills and their abilities.
In Silas’s face, a blue, transparent screen flashed, showing him two skills.
The first one he knew well.
The second one, however, was something he had never seen before
