My Tribrid System: More than a Monster - Chapter 155: Might not Make it
Chapter 153
"Wait. Why are we here instead of the clinic?" Felix asked, his voice laced with genuine confusion.
Currently, all the boys were huddled within the cramped confines of Ray, Van, and Kai’s shared quarters.
Getting back to the room had taken several agonizing minutes; it was an arduous feat, considering their battered states.
During the height of the struggle, the afternoon sun had still been high, but by the time Ray had fully committed to the fray, the light was already beginning to fail.
The time was currently 5:55 PM as they finally retreated behind their own door.
Instead of seeking professional medical attention, Ray had insisted on bringing the unconscious Kai here, carefully settling him onto his own mattress.
Van lay exhausted on his own bed, his hand clutched tightly against his side.
Every breath was a battle against the tremendous pain radiating from his broken ribs.
He, too, struggled to comprehend Ray’s logic.
Even though they were both severely mangled, Ray had bypassed the infirmary entirely.
Ray practically collapsed onto his bed, his clothes still saturated with blood.
"It was imperative that we did not head to the clinic today."
Felix raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned against the wall.
"And why is that?"
Ray’s chest rose and fell in ragged heaves as he fought to stabilize his breathing and steady his trembling frame.
"Think about it..." he uttered, forcing himself into an upright sitting position.
"... Regarding the individuals strong enough to dismantle Bryce’s elite guards—do you honestly believe the Corps thinks they would fall easily?"
"Huh?" Felix furrowed his brows.
He was momentarily perplexed by the way the boy was speaking in the third person, as if analyzing the situation from the outside.
"That is exactly what the Corps will be contemplating.
To overcome a squad of grade 5 meta-humans, an attacker would need to be significantly more powerful. The authorities recognize that. But what is the one thing that almost always occurs in a high-level skirmish?"
The question was clearly rhetorical, as Ray didn’t wait for a response before providing the answer himself.
".... Injuries. Even if someone is potentially stronger than their foes, they will still sustain damage, right? The Corps is likely scouring the clinic right now, keeping a vigilant eye on the registers for any signs of a seriously injured person appearing shortly after the alarm."
Felix’s brow remained knitted in a tight scowl of uncertainty.
"I still don’t quite get it. Can’t someone just claim they were injured during a private training session? We could use that as leverage or a cover story."
Instead of Ray, it was Van who answered this time.
He gingerly shifted his upper body to look at Felix, his face pale from the effort.
"What kind of official training occurs at five in the evening?"
Felix opened his mouth to retort, but the words died in his throat.
He realized he was totally cornered by that logic, and he eventually let out a sigh of resignation.
Shaking his head, he pointed a finger at Ray’s battered form.
"With the state you’re in, you might not even make it to tomorrow morning. How exactly do you plan to cover up those wounds?"
Ray didn’t bother offering a verbal reply; he was simply too drained to engage in further debate.
Instead, he raised his hands, which began to pulse with a soft, ethereal light.
He pressed his glowing palms against his own torso.
Slowly but surely, right before Felix’s wide eyes, the deep cuts, dark bruises, and even the patches of burnt flesh began to mend swiftly.
The bleeding ceased instantly, and the raw flesh started knitting back together at an incredible pace.
The healthy color began returning to Ray’s face as he stopped his violent coughing and ceased his painful wincing.
Due to its currently low level, ’Purification Pulse’ was limited to healing surface-level trauma and closing external hemorrhaging on the user or those nearby, but the visual effect was nothing short of miraculous to an onlooker.
Unfortunately, the ability was not a miraculous cure-all; it could not knit shattered bones back together, nor could it fully restore a person in the blink of an eye.
The biological mending was a gradual, taxing process.
Once Ray felt his own strength stabilizing, he climbed off his bed and moved toward Van to repeat the procedure.
Though he had administered some healing earlier in the heat of the moment, he chose to perform it again—not necessarily to fix the structural damage of the broken ribs, but to soothe the agonizing, persistent throbbing that flared with every breath Van took.
When he was satisfied that Van could at least shift his weight without crying out, Ray turned his attention to the unconscious Kai and meticulously applied the same soothing light.
It took roughly twenty minutes of intense concentration to treat himself and his two companions.
"Don’t I get a healing session too?" Felix asked, a slight frown marring his features as he watched the light fade.
Ray simply sauntered back to his own bunk and let his heavy frame sink into the mattress.
"You are a werewolf; your physiology will surely manage to mend itself on its own."
"...."
"Wait, what?!" Van shouted, his shock overriding his caution as he attempted to bolt upright.
He moved far too quickly, and a sharp yelp of pain escaped his lips as he clutched his side, his breathing turning shallow and ragged.
Ignoring the protest of his ribs, he turned toward Ray with an expression of pure exasperation.
"He—he is a werewolf too? A genuine one?"
Ray lifted an eyebrow in genuine confusion before his eyes widened in realization.
"Oh! I suppose I never actually mentioned that, did I? Well, meet Felix; a real Omega werewolf who traveled all the way from the werewolf world in search of a human author?"
Van’s mouth hung open for several seconds as he slowly pivoted his gaze toward Felix.
The werewolf offered a sheepish, lopsided smile and gave a small, awkward wave.
When Van turned back to Ray, he was practically staring daggers at his friend.
"And how exactly could you forget to inform me of something that significant?!"
Ray shrugged with an air of complete indifference. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"I honestly thought I had mentioned it. Besides, a lot of things have been happening lately."
Van facepalmed, letting out an exhausted groan.
Then, a melodic voice finally cut through the stunned silence of the room.
"Oh! So that explains why he possesses such strength despite being a grade 1 human? Although, I suppose the term ’human’ no longer truly applies to him."
Turning toward the source of the remark, Ray let out a long sigh of relief.
It was Kai. He had finally regained consciousness and had managed to catch the tail end of Ray’s explanation.
Slowly rising, the blonde-haired youth sat on the edge of his bed while calmly scanning the room.
Even though he appeared drained, a strange, ethereal glow seemed to cling to his features, only further emphasizing his striking charm.
’Why did I even decide to befriend him again? Wasn’t I trying to escape that enthralling beauty? Tsk! How can a person be this handsome at such a young age?’ Ray fumed inwardly, feeling a pang of annoyance at his friend’s effortless grace.
Felix rolled his shoulders, a tired clicking sound echoing from his joints.
"Well, it’s nice to officially meet my brother’s companions."
"Brother?" Kai and Van echoed in unison, their eyebrows shooting up as they turned back to face Ray.
Their expressions were clear: they demanded an immediate explanation.
Ray chuckled nervously, his hand reaching up to rub the back of his neck as he avoided their gaze.
"Did I also happen to forget to mention that he’s a bit of a psycho who attacked me on sight the very first time we met without so much as asking a single question?"
