My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 338: Hunt
Chapter 336
It was officially nighttime and the moment the sun went down, it didn’t take more than ten minutes for the pale moon to rise into the sky.
The switch was quite fast and unnatural even.
The group tensed up immediately as they listened for anything.
The moment the moon rose up, they heard it.
"AWHOOOOOO!"
"AWHOOOO!"
"AWHOOOO!"
Howls echoed through the air from every corner of this region.
It bounced off the air like the world was hollowed.
"Wolves?" Ray uttered as he listened some more and, when he didn’t hear any more sounds than the howls and growls, he finally came to the conclusion that the wolves were the inhabitants of this region.
"Yeah, of course," Van loudly facepalmed himself.
"Aside from thick forests, wolves live in mountains too. How didn’t I realize this on time?"
Chloe looked around the cave. "So what do we do now?"
Ray lifted a brow.
"What do you want to do? Go out and confront them when you don’t know how strong they actually are?"
"Hm. Good point," Chloe agreed as she looked straight ahead.
"So.... I guess we just have to rest up for the night and wait for tomorrow so we can go look for Caster and Felix," Van suggested as he looked around the cave.
Everybody nodded in agreement.
"Yeah. Since they have been here the longest, they should know the threat level of these wolves before we engage. So let’s all just go to sleep," Kai suggested.
"You guys rest. I will take the first watch," Ray stated as he rose up and began walking toward the entrance of the cave.
And then, he sat down.
The others couldn’t argue, hence they all shifted around and laid on the bare ground with only their uniform jackets under their heads.
Then, they tried to sleep while Ray backed them and continued looking ahead.
Several minutes passed, which turned into an hour, and soft, silent snores filled the cave, proving that the teens were now asleep.
Lifting his gaze to look at the sky, Ray sighed and then he rose to his feet.
Looking back at his squad asleep, he turned back around and then—Ray dashed out of the cave as silent as a ghost.
....
Ray could see himself in between a cluster of mountainous hills and right ahead, on another stony hill, a wolf could be seen.
It had now locked eyes on the boy and was currently snarling at him.
Stretching his hand, he activated his inventory and then equipped a bone sword.
Shifting into a stance, he watched as the wolf lunged at him.
’Inspect’
[Inspect]
[Name: Black Horned Wolf]
[Rank: Advanced]
[HP: 100/100]
[Ability: None]
’Perfect.’
The wolf was now upon him and it wasted no time in lunging at him.
The wolf was as big as a car with a horn so black, it seemed to blend with the night sky.
Fangs so powerful it looked like it could crush rocks with ease.
This wolf was now upon Ray who immediately sidestepped allowing the wolf to land in the space he had just occupied a moment ago.
Twirling around, the wolf lashed forward with its paws that ended in a set of short claws shooting towards his face.
Calmly parrying the paws to the side, lightning crackled around his hand which he shot forward and a strike of lightning burst forward crashing into the beast.
It shuddered and spasmed in pain while Ray calmly walked towards it and lifted the bone longsword above his head and with all his might, he brought it down, slicing its head off.
The head rolled across the ground for a few seconds before coming to a halt.
[Congratulations! You have defeated Advanced rank beast; Black Horned Wolf]
’Hmph.’
He immediately bent down and began carving the beast open, rummaging through its insides to search for a core.
And soon enough, he found one.
Pulling it out, he sent it into his inventory and then stood upright and lifted his gaze.
’The night is still young and the my hunt has just begun. Oh you fakes.... The real predator has just stepped onto your land. Stop me if you can.’
Ray wasted no time in dashing forward.
He had left the cave his squad were sleeping in a few dozen metres away. He didn’t want to draw any beastly attention in that area if he hunted close to the place so he drew his hunt this far away.
Landing on a hill, he could see two wolves who were obviously doing some kind of funny play with one another.
Mid hit, they were interrupted as they slowly turned their heads and locked eyes with the intruder.
Ray didn’t give them a chance as jagged lines of obsidian energy burst forward crashing into their furs sending them sliding backward away from eachother in pain.
Before the female could regain her footing, Ray was already in front of it and his weapon switched to that of a bone hammer which he hauled downward.
Bam!.
The ground immediately shuddered under the force of the hit as blood splattered into the air— even hitting the boy on the face.
The male wolf looked visibly stunned for just a few seconds as it watched the human boy slowly rise to his feet which nonchalantly wiping the blood off his face.
Then, the weapon changed to that of a spear as he pointed it towards the male wolf with a twist of his head to the side.
Looking back at the dead female wolf whose head was smashed into the ground while a pool of black blood gathered beneath its unmoving body.
Ray didn’t know whether he was imagining it or not, but it seemed like a tear rolled down the wolf’s eyes.
’Eh....?’
"Awhooo!" The howl was so powerfully loud that for a second, it seemed like the wolf was furious.
’Why is it angry?’
Unhesitatingly, the beast bolted towards the human with a decently fast speed, closing the distance between them within a few seconds.
