"I apologize for my lack of hospitality. I was not expecting some...guests to show up. Please, make yourself at home in my house."

The servant of god told Cane and Ai as soon as they entered his private chambers.

The door behind them clicked shut on its own, the sound sharper than it should have been. Cane glanced back, but no one was there to close it.

The place they had entered looked like a 5-star hotel reception with a lot of decorations and items that looked like they costed a ton. They were laid around artistically to the point where it seemed hard for one to even move because there was danger of damaging the items.

A faint shimmer hung in the air above certain objects, almost like a warning barrier. Cane felt as if touching the wrong item might trigger something he did not want to know about.

Cane, who had grown up in a moderately wealthy environment, felt awkward and did his best to avoid touching anything unnecessary,

He reached the sofa, but it sank under his weight comfortably, causing him to almost fall flat on his back at how soft and comfortable it was.

As he steadied himself, the cushions briefly dipped on their own beside him, as if someone invisible had sat down for a moment before the pressure vanished.

However, Ai seemed uninterested in all this luxury. Be it soft couches or wealthy items around them, she seemed to not pay attention to anything but the servant of god.

"May we start now? What can you tell us about this item? And how do you hatch it?"

Cane coughed to clear his throat before he asked this question. He did not want Ai to handle the whole situation by herself.

The servant of god gave him a tense look and for a second, Cane felt like he would not get an answer from him.

The priest’s fingers twitched slightly, as though he were debating whether to lie or speak the truth. A faint crackling of divine energy pulsed around him.

But then the servant of god blinked back at him and decided to answer his question.

"You must already be aware that these balls are familiar balls and to hatch them, you need divine blessing. You want me to perform the divine blessing on these balls? I can do that...as long as you turn a blind eye to what is happening around here."

The high priest clearly told Ai and Cane what he wanted them to do.

"Excuse me...but what?"

Ai asked in a tense voice, her eyes blinking softly as she looked at the high priest for more answers.

The man sighed as he looked back at the pair as well.

"I won’t beat around the bush. You must have already seen the condition and situation around this town and noticed that something is wrong here. I just want you to turn a blind eye toward that. You can do that much, right?"

The servant of god asked and both Ai and Cane exchanged a look with each other.

A sudden gust of cold air swept through the room, ruffling the priest’s robes. The lights flickered as if responding to the weight of his unspoken threat.

Their secret communication did not go unnoticed and to convince the pair, the man in front of them decided to tell them more.

"Before I took the mantle of protecting this town, these people were always fighting and on the verge of collapse. I saved them from a cruel fate. Even if they are living a lie currently...surely it is better than them perishing?"

The man asked and the pair in front of him had no answer for his question.

Cane felt a faint pressure against his temples—a divine presence brushing against his mind, as though testing whether he agreed or resisted. He forced himself not to react.

All of the people in the holy city, including the servant of god, were NPCs with pre-determined fates. There was no way for anyone else to interfere in their fate, much less Cane.

Getting involved would also mean becoming responsible for these people. And that was not something he looked forward to.

Ai looked like she had something to say, but before she could, Cane spoke up.

He told the servant of god and the man nodded.

"Of course. Please follow me. We can hold the ceremony right now."

The man told the pair as they headed inside the chamber. The servant of god placed the two balls on the table in front of him before he took a step back and began to chant.

As the chanting grew louder, the chamber walls seemed to hum in response. Shadows gathered in the corners, trembling as if alive.

The room glowed golden around them, causing the holy aura to rise rapidly around the room. Cane felt the aura interacting with him before it left him and headed toward the balls.

The golden light swirled violently for a moment, almost as if something fought back within the balls before surrendering to the blessing.

The message from the operator suddenly showed up, causing Cane to feel surprised. He looked at the message for a minute with a surprised look before he decided that hesitating was of no use.

Holy power was rare in the game and using high amounts could open a lot more potential for him. So there was no harm in accepting this.

’Besides, it will be better to have some backup for holy powers.’

So he pressed on accept as the prayers kept going on.

The servant of god finally finished his prayers and handed the balls back to Cane.

"I did what I can for these little ones, but I can tell that my own power won’t be enough. You might have to go find a natural spring filled with healing powers next in order to heal the holy vessel."

The high priest told them and Cane noticed that another quest had formed in the system regarding this.
