Chapter 76.1 - The Speculation of No Life King

76.1 The Speculation of No Life King

Fufufufufufu~~~

Underneath the demon king castle. Along the spiral staircase which seemingly goes all the way down to the Abyss

A shadow of a person descended to such a gloomy place while humming cheerfully.

It was none other than one of the bodies of Enma, the No Life King.

Maan, Jil-kun's expression was a masterpiece

The hearty conversation with the 7th demon prince, Jilbagias, had made Enma really happy. He looked dumbfounded when she told him that hell didn't exist

The concept of the netherworld, or hell, existed in all races.

It was the resting place of their ancestral spirit. Those who died would be buried in the soil. Depending on their race or religion, the lord of the Netherworld was either the god of light or god of darkness.

Though there was small difference about the netherworld, the place where the sinner got condemned for their sin or the place where Good people according to their culture went to paradise, the common point was a Gathering place for the deceased.

In what basis have you declared so?

The demon prince who snapped out of his shock then calmly asked her while looking into her eyes.

Enma was spellbound, she felt as if a chill was running down her spine every time she recalled the sharp glint in the demon prince's eyes. Then she realized one of the reasons why she preferred Jilbagias. If it was replaced with the other demon race, the first thing they would say upon hearing that would be something along the lines of What are you talking about, idiot! or I wasted my time on such bu*llsh*it!.

That was the rudest cuss toward the No Life King, the expert of death! And yet, Jilbagias proved that he really did respect her as the practitioner of secret art and stated the most logical question.

The result of my research of course

Enma replied with a triumphant face.

This place, the world we hold this very conversation in is called the material world. And like the flip side of the same coin, the spirit world exists on the opposite side of this world. That spiritual world is the destination of the soul of a deceased person And I had already reached the deepest part of that world.

Enma spoke while shrugging her shoulders as if it was a piece of cake.

In the end, I can't find the land of death even after I dive in the deepest part of that place. The soul of the deceased just gets crushed to pieces by the overwhelming pressure of the world and transformed into pure particles of magical power.

Jilbagias seems to have a hard time accepting that fact.

Well, that was natural.

It sounds far-fetched if I suddenly tell you about this right? That's why I encourage you to learn necromancy and see that phenomenon with your own eyes.

Though living people would have a hard time separating their soul from their flesh I wouldn't tell him about that for now.

Feeling that second or third conversation wouldn't be enough to satisfy Jilbagias' curiosity about necromancy, Enma decided to leave the place

I'm looking forward to his growth as a necromancer.

Finally, Enma arrived at the bottom of the staircase.

The entrance to the undeads' territory.

The area was illuminated with a bright lamp made from glowing moss. The gate was enchanted with protection magic, there was a skeleton guard donned in armor standing on the side of the gate 24/7.

It was covered from head to toe with heavy equipment to the point that it might be mistaken as an iron golem. Naturally, the undead made by Enma had artificial muscle on their skeleton base and can move much faster than your average skeleton.

Hey, are you having a good time?

When Enma asked them, the jaw of the skeleton guards moved up and down, replying frankly to her.

In fact, they really enjoyed their job as the gatekeeper.

The reason was simply because she made them that way.

That's a relief. I'm really glad to hear that you guys are enjoying your job.

The skeletons opened the gate politely while revealing an ear-to-ear smile. Like that of a grandmother looking at their grandkid

Unable to feel anything was one kind of happiness.

Enma really did feel that way from the bottom of her heart.

Enma scrapped negative emotions during the manufacturing process so that those skeletons would never know about suffering. Yes, they were free of the sorrow and suffering of the living creature.

That's why they always enjoy their job of being the gatekeeper of this dark place. And that makes Enma feel happy.

What's so good about being alive? It's too inconvenient.

Now that there's no living creature around her, she could say anything she wanted to say.

What's so good about being alive? It's too inconvenient.

She repeated her words.

It's been around 200 years since Enma was born in this world.

She was born in a plaster craftsman's house in the countryside of a certain small human kingdom.

She was born with an innate darkness attribute An extremely rare attribute for humans.

At that time, the battle between the human kingdom against the invasion of the demon kingdom intensified, and she got persecuted by her fellow humans for being the owner of a darkness attribute.

It wasn't that the kingdom persecuted her, it was its citizens who couldn't forgive her. They couldn't forgive that someone with an attribute like that of Darkling was living so close with them.

Naturally, her good parents tried to protect Enma alas Once her darkness attribute came to light during her adulthood ceremony, Enma got persecuted till she was on the verge of death.

And they didn't stop until she died.

Having lived through such suffering, Enma gained enlightenment on the verge of her death. Enma died while cursing this world that tortured her along with her parents.

Her grudge remained in this world even after her death. Her soul remained in the spirit world, and kept cursing the humans.

It was during that time she Got picked up by her master.

A male necromancer.

Oh my, what a pitiful soul you are. And yet, the core remained as it is. Let's see what kind of body I can give to you

That was the starting point of Enma who was later hailed as the No Life King(Lich).

One soul is the source of emotion. And there's a reason that becomes the foundation of the emotion. Together, the foundation of emotion and the construction of reason are called ego.

That was what the master who revived Enma said while he taught her about necromancy.

The ego of undead are the reconstructed reason using magical power using that emotion as its' base.

"That's what happens when you learn necromancy, and it's called the transformation of the soul" added her master.

The difference between high-rank undead and low-rank undead is the difference between their soul, or should I say, their foundation. Frail foundation is akin to a dilapidated hut. On the other hand, strong foundation is akin to a fort

Said her master who was nothing but skin and bones.

Enma's grudge was particularly powerful. That's why her core remained and her constructed ego was comparable with her ego when she was alive. That in turn enables her to use a vast amount of magical power.

Living as the dead was the most wonderful experience for her.

She was released from troublesome fleshy problems, she spent her days completely absorbed in learning necromancy.

But as she spent her time in that way, she came to a realization that the living creatures were pitiful. She didn't particularly blame them for being alive. That couldn't be helped since not everyone was as lucky as her, alas, everyone ended up fighting with each other, mass producing sorrow and suffering, thus she asked herself "doesn't that mean the demerit of being alive outpaced its' merit?".

Doesnt that mean most people would only end up suffering just like her?

At first, that was nothing more than an afterthought. She never thought about destroying humankind nor did she hate them.

I leave for a bit to take a peek into the abyss.

Until her master didn't come back from his stroll.

"Is there really a land of death at the bottom of the barrel of the spirit world?" That was the reason why her master dove into the abyss, only to get swallowed by it. 𝓯𝘳𝘦𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝓃ℴ𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝓬𝘰𝑚
