A Dragon against the Whole World-Chapter 100: Galos’ Fear
The night enveloped the territory of the Bone-Chewing Clan, as the adult Stone Giant, Targun, walked with heavy steps.
With each step, the ground trembled slightly.
Standing about ten meters tall, its physique was thick and heavy, its body made of gray-white granite, with ancient bronze rings embedded at some joints, emitting a low metallic friction sound as it moved.
The strong ogres appeared before the adult Giant.
Like undergrown children.
Even Gorging Demon Kalu’s figure paled in comparison.
A Gorging Demon is an advanced mutant of the ogre, capable of reaching legendary status as long as there’s ample food, yet Giants themselves are creatures that rival the Dragon Race, with a high probability of becoming legendary as they age, not inferior to the Gorging Demon.
Targun looked down at the ogre camp before him.
The slanted walls were hung with dried beast bones, and there were visibly several mages within the territory. Groups of ogre warriors, well-fed and well-equipped, with many elites over four meters tall, were sitting around the bonfire tearing at large beasts’ raw flesh, with grease dripping into the fire, sizzling.
"Are you the leader?"
Targun’s voice buzzed like two rocks rubbing against each other.
It stared at the peculiar, towering Gorging Demon in front of it, different from other ogres, with strange admiration in its eyes.
At first glance, the Stone Giant recognized the Gorging Demon.
It couldn’t help but feel pleased.
A clan of ogres with a Gorging Demon, its potential was unmatched by ordinary ogre clans. If they were absorbed under their rule, their Stone Heart Clan’s followers would rapidly expand, securing a foothold here wouldn’t be a problem.
Secure a foothold, accumulate strength, and return to the homeland.
This is the Stone Giant’s aspiration.
As for the possibility of failure.
The Stone Giant Targun never considered it.
Under normal circumstances, if both Dragon and Giant were placed before the ogre, and the ogre had to choose to pledge allegiance to one, the ogre was highly likely to choose the Giant rather than the Dragon Race.
The reason is simple.
Ogres possess an unusual size; their bodies actually contain Giant blood, having some ancestral connection with the Giant Race. Moreover, the Ogre God belongs to a sub-god within the Giant Pantheon, much like the Dogman God belongs to the Dragon Divine System.
However.
The Stone Giant Targun was unaware that it had come too late.
The Gorging Demon had already submitted to a stronger Dragon Race.
Ordinary ogres might revere Giants, but the potential of the Gorging Demon does not fall short of Giants; without having been decisively defeated by the Stone Giant, the Gorging Demon had no notion of reverence towards the Stone Giant.
Kalu wiped the meat scraps from the corner of its mouth and stood up slowly.
Standing about six meters tall, its body appeared tighter and more solid.
Though smaller than the Stone Giant by several circles, Kalu’s head still reached up to the Stone Giant’s chest, but the Gorging Demon Kalu did not fear, striding boldly forward and looking up at the Stone Giant, saying: "I am Kalu, king of the Bone-Chewing Clan."
Speaking.
It seemed that the height was inadequate, the posture of looking up at the Stone Giant was not very comfortable.
Kalu called over two elite ogre warriors, instructing them to lift its left and right legs, diligently raising him up, ultimately allowing Kalu’s head to be slightly higher than the Stone Giant by an inch.
The Gorging Demon nodded contentedly.
It licked away the meat strands from between its teeth, speaking roughly to the Stone Giant: "Big guy, what’s your business on my turf?"
A crack resembling a smile appeared on Targun’s rock face.
"I come from the western Cliff Strait."
It raised its arm, pointing westwards: "The land there is ten times more spacious than here, and the prey is fat and oily."
Several young ogre warriors perked their ears at the mention of prey.
Targun noticed this detail and continued: "My clan is forming a powerful army, warriors as brave as you should stand with the victor. Then, there will be countless prey for you, filling your bellies round."
A Stone Giant is undoubtedly a wise creature.
It knew how to entice based on ogres’ nature.
Kalu blinked and took a raw liver handed over through the Floating Technique by a nearby mage, casually biting into it: "Sounds good, but the Bone-Chewing Clan is doing quite well now."
It licked the bloodstained fangs: "Why should we listen to you, just based on your empty promises?"
"At least, provide food, equipment, or other resources to make me consider allegiance."
Kalu may seem rough, but his mind is sharper than other ogres.
Overall personality is rough but delicate.
From the beginning when encountering Galos, attempting to deceive him into landing, this was evident.
Targun’s stone eyebrows (actually two protruding rock ridges) furrowed; he expected these simple-minded ogres to submit immediately before him, but the Gorging Demon was more cunning than anticipated.
Stone Giants feed on minerals.
Prey from hunting could be provided to the Ogre Clan.
But they lack much in terms of equipment or other resources and naturally cannot provide them to the Ogre Clan.
Absorbing followers is to have them support oneself, not the reverse, wasting one’s own resources to support followers.
Before the Stone Giant could reply.
Kalu recalled Galos’s advice, hiding the true intention behind a naive expression, taking a bite of raw liver, then casually and curiously asked: "Hmm... the strait in the west should be quite distant from here, why abandon fertile land to come here? It confuses and perplexes me."
The Stone Giant paused for two seconds.
Be honest?
Tell the Gorging Demon here that they fled in defeat from the Blue Dragon to avoid annihilation, reluctantly abandoning their territory and escaping with disgrace, experiencing various hardships over six years, finally coming here to settle down.
With a calm expression, the Stone Giant said: "To expand territory."
It continued in a dull tone: "We are not content with just a single western territory, so we sent some of our clan here to prepare to occupy it as a base, gradually expanding the clan’s domain."
Its facial features were rigid, made of stone, showing little expression, slightly stiff and numb.
And this made it difficult for Galos, observing from the shadows, to discern the truth of these words.
"A Stone Giant Clan aiming to expand their domain."
"...From what it says, it has other clan companions, not a loner."
"Later, more giants might arrive."
Galos habitually considered the worst outcome, assuming the Stone Giant’s words were truthful.
"Why must someone always disrupt my peaceful life?"
At the thought of a potentially arriving giant army, Galos felt fear, fearing discovery and being killed.
This set off alarm bells in his heart, feeling overwhelming danger and threat, more intense than the danger felt from the Black Rock Dwarves before.
Dragons and Giants are absolute mortal enemies, with an enduring feud rooted in ancestral bloodlines.
Encounters in the wild do not end amicably.
Upon seeing the Stone Giant, Galos felt an innate aversion and hatred, wanting to rush out and kill it.
He stifled the natural instinct with his incredible willpower.
Galos disliked being controlled by instinctual desires, such as the innate hatred towards Giants, which could lead to unnecessary trouble and conflict.
If possible, Galos actually wished to coexist peacefully with Giants.
However.
The opponent likely wouldn’t share the same thought.
