Chapter 87: Chapter 87: The Sacred Banquet and the Birth of the Gluttonous Demon

Galos during Steam Rift’s Dragon Sleep.

In the distant wilderness, a group of Stone Giants is migrating in the rain, searching for a suitable settlement.

They have a total of eleven, six of them are not yet youths, with ages ranging from childhood to adolescence.

Among the other five Stone Giants.

There is an elder Stone Giant over two hundred years old, three young Stone Giants, and one adult Stone Giant.

Giants and the Dragon Race are both long-lived species; their lifespan varies by species, about one to two hundred years shorter than dragons, with similar age divisions.

The difference is.

At the same age tier, the ranking of dragons is more than a notch higher than giants.

Giants have the advantage of greater numbers, close social cooperation, and comparable fierce combat prowess at the same level as dragons.

The level of adult Stone Giants ranges from level 8-10, equivalent to juvenile dragons or later-sequence adolescent dragons, like the Blue Dragon Race’s late-sequence young dragons.

The level of elder Stone Giants ranges from level 10-13.

This group of Stone Giants comes from the Stone Heart Clan.

Their leader and other higher-ranked warriors died in the war against the Blue Dragon Race.

The strongest remaining is the elder Stone Giant.

It is responsible for leading the remaining Stone Giants to a safe place, a suitable new territory.

Recuperate and gather strength anew.

Hoping to one day return and reclaim their homeland.

The rainy season in the wilderness continues, and the drizzle gradually intensifies, quickly turning into a torrential downpour, the Stone Giants march silently through the rain, migrating farther into the wilderness.

Under the same sky.

The storm rages on, lightning flashes and thunder roars.

In the fertile hills, the Bone-Chewing Clan’s ogres have not gone out hunting, nor resting, nor mating and reproducing; instead, they all gather in the central hall for the ’sacred banquet’.

The main characters of the banquet are the old chieftain and its nine offspring.

The reason is that, as the ogre old chieftain ages, its robust, prime offspring covet its position.

To maintain its rule, the old chieftain cruelly ate two of its offspring.

But it knows that sooner or later, it must select a successor.

After consuming two offspring, there are nine progeny left.

To select the strongest one to replace itself, the old chieftain holds the most sacred ceremony within the Ogre clan.

This ceremony is called—the sacred banquet.

For ogres, the meaning of life is—to eat.

They have voracious appetites, able to consume raw meat, bones, even stones, and metals.

The more an ogre can eat, the stronger its body and the higher its talent.

The sacred banquet revolves around eating.

Whoever has the strongest stomach and can eat until the end will be the next king of the Bone-Chewing Clan.

During the sacred banquet, the old chieftain and the other nine participating ogres begin a tireless feast, day and night.

Until now.

The banquet has been going on for some time.

The contestants have reduced from ten to three.

The old chieftain and its two favorite offspring.

Ugo Bone-Chewing, Kalu Bone-Chewing.

The three ogres are gathered around a marble slab table, casting shadows like mountains, with grease dripping through the stone table cracks.

More ogres encircle the hall, closely observing the ongoing banquet.

The tabletop is heaped with maggot-infested dead sheep.

Ugo is as robust as a mammoth draped in ogre skin.

With each gulp of the maggot-ridden lamb corpse, its belly swells slightly. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Its gaze fierce, it eats rapidly, striving to finish first, eyes filled with longing for the ’throne’.

Kalu doesn’t care about the throne.

Its eyes fixed on the dead sheep, filled with love for ’delicacy’.

It tears off pieces of rotting flesh, consuming them with maggots atop, face displaying bliss and delight.

In less than three minutes.

The three ogres finish all the maggot-infested dead sheep.

Ugo finishes first, followed by Kalu, lastly the old chieftain.

As age advances, the old chieftain’s appetite and digestion slow compared to its strong offspring, but it doesn’t concede to old age, letting the banquet continue.

The banquet continues.

The Bone-Chewing Clan nearly emptied their entire stock, serving up ’delicacies’ even Ogres frowned upon.

These foods are deadly poisons to other races, but for the Ogres vying for the throne, they are the ultimate trial to prove the strength of their stomachs.

After the maggot-infested, rotting dead sheep came the wind-dried rhino leg bones covered with sharp bone spikes.

There was not a bit of meat on it; the sharp spikes would scratch an Ogre’s mouth, esophagus, and stomach, bringing a painful sensation while eating.

Ugo was the first to pick up a leg bone, blood streaming from his mouth, his face ferocious, as he started chomping down with big bites, crunching loudly.

Then the old Chieftain, frowning, held his big belly with one hand and began to eat.

Lastly, it was Kalu. Though pain emanated from his mouth and stomach while eating, he remained thoroughly delighted, treating all food with a solemn and serious attitude, even licking up and eating the tiniest bone crumbs.

Lightning flashed, thunder cracked, and rain poured heavily.

The feast continued.

Live worm sashimi, rust nail-stewed Giant toes, raw pickled storm rhino bladders, sliced poisonous mushrooms.... All foods that no other species dared to touch were continuously served to the table, placed before the three Ogres.

Half an hour later.

The Ogres had devoured the shell wings of the decayed bone beetles, and their huge stomachs were filled to the brim, resembling three mountains of flesh.

"The feast continues!"

With victory yet undecided, the old Chieftain burped as he instructed the Ogre chef to bring more food.

"Chieftain, all the food has been consumed."

The kitchen butcher: "The clan’s storage has been completely exhausted."

Ugo suddenly stood up, declaring his victory in a booming voice: "I am always the first to finish, victory and glory are mine!"

If all the Ogres held out to the end, then the speed of eating was the crucial judging criterion.

The old Chieftain wobbled as he stood up, preparing to announce the outcome of the sacred feast.

At this moment, a wolf-like green glow appeared in Kalu’s eyes, and he growled: "No! I’m not full yet."

The next second, he suddenly stood up, walked towards the old Chieftain, and in the Chieftain’s puzzled gaze, swung his massive fist onto the top of the Chieftain’s head.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

With a few sudden and powerful punches, the old Chieftain died on the spot.

Kalu turned to the butcher, grinning: "Divide father’s corpse, and the food in his stomach, into two halves, and place them before me and my brother."

"The feast continues."

Silence enveloped the hall.

The Ogre butcher let out a dull sound of assent, then hacked apart the old Chieftain’s body, dismembering it, and presented it piece by piece to the two Ogres.

Ten minutes later.

Ugo finally couldn’t eat anymore.

His belly was like a balloon at its limit, with one crack after another on its surface, his stomach already ruptured. In contrast, Kalu’s belly was equally round, but with each swallow, his belly would slightly bulge momentarily, then swiftly tighten and contract.

Whether it was an illusion or not?

The Ogres observing this grand feast came to a late realization — Kalu seemed to have expanded by a circle since the beginning, and it wasn’t just the stomach.

He initially wasn’t as robust as Ugo.

But now, beneath his bulky body, muscles bulged like they were filled with tar and oil, making him appear larger than Ugo by one size.

The clan’s smartest two-headed Ogre Mage turned both heads, exchanging a glance.

In the small eyes of his other head, he saw a look of astonishment and ecstatic joy.

"Kalu has awakened the Gluttonous Demon trait! He will lead the Bone-Chewing Clan to glory!"

The two heads spoke in unison.

Ogre variant — Gluttonous Demon.

The Gluttonous Demon can digest all food, efficiently utilize food energy, and gain enough formidable power to shake mountains.

In the Ogres’ ancient records, there is an honor of the distant past — once there was a Gluttonous Demon who established a glorious empire formed by Ogres!

Ugo finally conceded, kneeling before his brother.

Facing him, Kalu, chewing on his old father’s arm, vaguely announced his new position as Chieftain.

This carnival feast of gluttony ended with the most voracious stomach being crowned king.

After devouring every bit of his father’s flesh and bones, Kalu surveyed the ravaged hall and muttered, "I’m still not full."

Every Ogre he looked upon instinctively averted their gaze, afraid to make eye contact with him, fearing being devoured alive.

"Tribe members! Join me in the hunt."

Kalu shouted aloud, receiving the response of all Ogres.

Throughout the feast, ordinary Ogres suppressed their hunger too long, and the clan’s reserves were completely depleted, urgently needing to hunt for replenishment.

It’s not just fierce beasts and monsters,

but the several Monster Race clans surrounding the area will all be targets for the Bone-Chewing Ogres.
