Chapter 136: MEETING WITH EZRA

"Tell me how is Khaos?" Ezra asked his son.

Caiden could see this question coming the moment he was called to talk to his father in private. He just closed the door to his room and faced the old man. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Why didn’t you tell me anything about it?" Ezra turned around and faced his son, behind him the big window showed the view of the dark sky, as snow fell softly on the windowsill.

This room was rather warm with the fire on the fireplace.

"Khaos told me not to mention about it in the letter. Seeing the situation with the king, the letter could be intervened. We don’t want anyone to learn about this." Caiden took a seat on the sofa, he poured himself a glass of wine to calm his nerves, talking to his father was always put him on edge. "The cult is already a shock. They even know more things about the beauty blood and the lycan’s history than we did, since the scriptures have been with them all this time."

"I don’t like those people."

"Well, me neither." He didn’t like the fact that Rhett deceived her sister all this time and still thought highly of himself as a loving brother, as a brother himself, he couldn’t even think to do the same thing to his little siblings and pretended everything was fine. "Khaos doesn’t trust them too. He has been keeping them at arm length."

"Good!" Ezra clapped his hands. "He knew what to do."

"Of course, he knew what he was doing, father." Caiden looked at his father with a frown. "You crossed the line some time, father. You and mother act too comfortable with the alpha."

"I raised him."

"Yes, but it doesn’t change the fact that we are Khaos’s subject."

Ezra didn’t like to be reminded of that. "We are more than only his subject. We are his family. In a sense, he is your brother, since you two breastfed from the same woman."

Whenever his father was being stubborn like this, Caiden couldn’t talk sense to him.

"I want to meet with Zuri before the ritual tomorrow, arrange that." Ezra then grilled Caiden more about how the situation between Zuri and Khaos from his son.

Meanwhile, after having her meal, Zuri fell asleep on the bed, curled herself against Khaos. There was no sign of her throwing up. Probably, she was too tired to do so and she was too comfortable with his presence.

Tomorrow would be the day of the ritual and thing wouldn’t be good for her for a while, until her body adjusted to the new curses that was inflicted on her.

They didn’t know how she would react and it would take some time for her to feel good about herself after that.

Khaos stared at Zuri’s sleeping face, it was hard to tell what was in his mind right now. Out there, the snow fell and the weather was rather cold.

The people started ceasing down and Khaos received a report that Dacre was on his way here. It was not usual for him to come into a battlefield on his own, but then the report also mentioned about Rose.

The next day, when Zuri woke up, she didn’t see Khaos for a whole day. The ritual would happen later at night, thus she had plenty of time in her hand, thinking she wanted to spend her day to learn of how to read the lycan language when Caiden knocked on the door and asked her to come out.

"What is it?" Zuri asked, confused to see Caiden’s expression. "Are you, okay?" She didn’t mean to be worried, but the gamma was fidgeting. "Why are you giving me that look?"

He looked uncomfortable.

"My father wanted to talk with you."

Zuri narrowed her eyes. "Khaos didn’t know about this meeting, did he?" If Khaos knew, Caiden wouldn’t act like this. It must be the fact that he was doing something against the alpha’s order that caused him to look uncomfortable.

"Come with me, okay?" Caiden grimaced. If Zuri refused, he needed to think of a way to convince her.

Zuri didn’t immediately agree with him, she paused for a while, but then a mischievous smirk appeared on the corner of her lips.

"You owed me one if I agreed to go with you." Zuri didn’t know why, but having someone in debt with you was not a bad thing. More so, it could be useful one day.

"Okay." Caiden sighed in relief because Zuri didn’t make things complicated.

"What your father wanted to talk about?" Zuri followed Caiden, she didn’t know where he would take her to meet with his father.

"I am not sure. I think it’s something related to the ritual."

Zuri didn’t ask anything anymore until she met Ezra again for the first time after a few months. He didn’t look like he disliked her, but he stared at her with calculation.

They met near the woods, where Zuri used to train with Gayle, right now the warrior went away with the alpha and the beta.

"Nice to meet you again, Zuri," Ezra greeted her.

"Nice to meet you again, Ezra," Zuri greeted him the same way.

"You can leave now, Caiden. I have something important to discuss with her." Ezra dismissed his son, but Caiden didn’t immediately leave.

"Why I can’t be here?" Caiden crossed his arms. "I know everything, there is nothing you need to hide from me."

"Leave, Caiden." Ezra’s tone became firmer. He glared at his defiant son and this left Caiden with no other choice, but left Zuri alone with his father.

Meanwhile, Zuri observed the dynamic between the two of them and noticed that their relationship was not as great as she thought.

"What do you want to talk about with me, Ezra?" Zuri asked, she kept her voice casual, but to her annoyance, she started to see her mother, staring at her.

"Have you been in contact with the king?"
