Chapter 78: PEACEFUL MORNING

"You have been here for hours, something is bothering you?" Bryden approached Khaos. They talked a few hours ago when Khaos assigned him for a new task, but he was still in the same position like he saw him last.

Their guild was located on the cliff, where they could overlook the sea from here and right now, the alpha had been staring at the distance. The sky slowly turned bright, rich with the hue of golden color from the sun, as the first ray fell on the surface of the water.

"Nothing." Khaos took the cup of tea from Bryden's hand and drank it.

"I don't know why you are so adamant to involve her in this, but I hope you don't make a mistake," Bryden finally said after a long silent. He didn't like the fact Khaos suddenly became interested with Zuri, more than necessary, but he couldn't get the real reason out of him. "I only want to warn you that Ezra doesn't like this situation with Zuri and he might try something. Maybe not as blunt as Mabel, but he wouldn't accept the situation readily either."

Khaos didn't need to hear that, he knew his own people, but he didn't reply to that statement and kept waiting for the sun to fully rise, so he could collect the answer that he needed.

"We are almost there," Bryden said again. "All of the pain and suffering will worth it. The revenge is ours to take." He then looked at the alpha. "It's yours to take for what they had done to your family."

As the last lycan, it fell on Khaos the responsibility to avenge his family, he knew it ever since he learned how this world worked. He was burdened by the knowledge that the purpose of his life was to revive the old dynasty.

The fallen dynasty of the lycan didn't only affect the old royal bloodline only, but also the people who supported them.

They were annihilated along with their belief to protect the lycan and those people, who managed to survive, hiding for long time and changed their identity after the situation calmed down.

And now, all of them rallied behind Khaos, fueled with rage and desire to take their revenge for their own family too.

That was why, this revenge was not only for Khaos, but for them as well.

Most of the people that was with Khaos right now and supported him came from the first or second generation of the survival during those dark moments.

"Thanks for the tea," Khaos said, smiling at his beta and handed over the empty cup to him, as he walked away from there. He didn't comment anything about his statement earlier. He had heard enough. Bryden had repeated the same thing and it got boring.

Right now, Khaos hoped Zuri's decision wouldn't be a disappointment and once the bright light of the sun illuminated every dark corner of the night, Khaos went to see Zuri.

He didn't knock the door and went inside to find her curling her body in fetal position. She looked exhausted, but it was clear to see that she was breathing, which meant she was alive. The small bottle of poison was sitting on the table next to the bed. She didn't take it, obviously.

With that, Khaos sat on the edge of the bed, he didn't do anything, but stared at her. He noticed Zuri had this habit. She would wrap herself in blanket, but she would put one of her legs out of the blanket.

In the end, Khaos waited until it was close to lunch. He didn't wake her up and stay like that during those hours. After all, he needed this quietness to think about his next move.

When Zuri finally stirred awake, she caught the sight of Khaos, who was staring at her. "Am I dreaming?" she asked sleepily, more to herself, which made Khaos chuckled and pinched her cheek.

"Still thinking that you are dreaming?" Khaos asked, raising his brows, as Zuri grumbled and rubbed her cheek. "I see you don't take the easy route." He nodded at the small bottle on the table and Zuri followed his line of sight.

Zuri shifted her body and rested her head on Khaos's lap instead. She took his hand and caressed her own head with it, until Khaos got her intention and continued to pat her head even when she let go of his hand.

"I want to be with you if you will have me," Zuri said, as she closed her eyes again, but Khaos pinched her cheek for the second time, which jolted her awake.

"I will only have you if you are useful to me." He looked at her in the eyes. "I don't keep anyone, who is useless and need an extra care." ƒгeewёbnovel.com

Zuri knew what he meant. This was not the first time, someone used her, but with Khaos, she chose to be with him and he was upfront with his intention.

After that, they had their lunch in the bed.

"I remembered..." Zuri muttered, as she chewed on her meat slowly. She had the urge to throw it up, she had eaten too much... "You couldn't shift into your beast. Is that... true?"

Khaos had been the head of the warriors ever since the previous king appointed him to that position, but not because he was the best fighter, but he was a strategist. His strategy managed to ward off the attack from Great Lunar kingdom ten years ago.

Because of that excellent aspect of him, people tended to forget the fact that he couldn't shift.

The previous king was very disappointed to have a defect son, but it couldn't stop him from loving this son, as he had a lot of redeeming quality in him. There was rumor that said the king would have made Khaos the crown prince instead if he didn't die all of sudden.

Khaos smiled. "I can shift into my beast."
