A Mate For The Last Lycan-Chapter 79: MORE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ZURI TO TAKE
Chapter 79: MORE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ZURI TO TAKE
The only reason why Khaos didn't shift into his beast was because, it would expose his identity. It would cause an uproar and obviously, he wouldn't live right now if they learned he was the lycan.
The lycan beast was different from their werewolf form. They were bigger, faster and stronger. Their distinctive features couldn't be mistaken.
That was why, Khaos had never shifted into his beast, unless it was necessary or he was with his people.
However, despite Khaos couldn't shift into his beast form, he was excellent with swords, though he had never showed his skills openly, since he would be the mastermind behind all the attack or defense for the kingdom, because he 'couldn't' shift.
As someone, who controlled the defense of the kingdom and had hundred of thousand warriors under his command, this position benefited Khaos more than if he put himself on the throne.
"I heard the lycan beast is beautiful, can I see it?" Zuri looked at him expectantly. She made a mental note to look for lycan history. In the past, she only learned about it briefly, since there were not many books that talked about the dynasty aside from how it fell from its grace.
"I will show it to you only if you managed to get me back the golden stamp."
It was a bargain and Zuri didn't mind it. She continued eating and once she was done, Khaos took her to his study and let her learned about the business. He wanted her to take a look of it and expand it.
"Are you sure?" Zuri asked incredulously. It was a very big responsibility and she didn't think people around Khaos would be thrilled to know he let her knew and handle things more than she should.
Khaos chuckled. "I know my people and none of them as skillful as you to handle this." River Creek pack became the richest pack was a testament for Zuri's skill, because as far as Khaos knew, none of the three sons of alpha Roland were interested in business.
Zuri chewed on her lip. "What about your people?"
"What about my people?" Khaos sat on the edge of the table and picked one of the financial records, flipping it casually.
Zuri got the impression that they didn't agree with Khaos's choice for not rejecting the king's idea for the union, which he could do it and she told him what she was thinking.
"There would be a thousand way for me to reject it, but I only need one reason to keep you."
"What reason?"
Khaos didn't immediately answer that, he contemplated his answer before he spoke again. "Because you are useful and I know when someone is loyal to me." He then laughed lightly. "In your case, you are obsessed with me, right?" he teased her, reminded her of her own words.
Zuri made a face when she heard that and took the report from his hand. "I will check all of this," she grumbled and spent the entire afternoon and evening sitting on the same seat, doing what Khaos told her to do, while the alpha went away to do deal with a few things related to Great Lunar kingdom.
"Khaos, you are being reckless now," Bryden voiced out his grievances once he learned what Zuri was doing in his study room in the entire day. She was still there even if it was close to midnight. "How could you hand her over a lot of information when we are still being suspicious of her?"
Khaos and Bryden just came out from one of the gambling houses in the black market, not for gambling, but they needed to meet with their informant there.
Right now, the two of them were walking side by side, fully aware there was at least two people, who followed them.
However, it didn't bother them much, since they still could have this conversation and more so, they expected this.
"You have been questioning my decision lately, Bryden." Khaos stopped walking, they reached a quiet alley and it was only a matter of time before the people, who had been following them to make their appearance. "I have arranged for you to go with Ezra and inspect the Great Lunar Kingdom yourself."
"What?" Bryden was taken aback by this sudden information, but there was no discussion for that when suddenly a few people emerged from the darkness.
"Hm... more than predicted," Khaos said casually. They assumed there would be only three to four people, not ten.
Bryden immediately shifted into his beast and took a protective stand in front of the alpha. These ten people were not shifters, but obviously they were a very skill swordsman, as they unsheathed their swords.
The fight wouldn't end up good. This definitely would be a bloody night.
Meanwhile, at the same time, Zuri was busy with the reports, she didn't even realize that it was so close to midnight when her head was throbbing painfully. She ate her lunch, but she skipped her dinner. Probably, this was a good news, but she didn't throw up, since she was engrossed in her tasks.
Yet, her eyes couldn't take it, she planned to close her eyes for a while and curled herself on the chair. She didn't hear the voices in her head and see dead people. It could be said as a nice day for her.
Close to morning, Khaos came to the study room and found her in the same position, hugging herself, as she rested her head on her knees.
The alpha just finished with his interrogation. Five people died in the fight, two managed to escape and they interrogated three of them, yet there was nothing they could get from them aside from the fact that someone targeted Khaos for the reason unknown.
Khaos sat on the table in front Zuri, waiting for her to notice him, but she was deep in sleep. She would get a backpain sleeping in that position.
