A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 122: Unwanted Thoughts (4)
Theo could barely focus on where he was going as he stalked through the forest the next morning, his mind consumed with countless thoughts. Thoughts that somewhat scared him.
It was something that had been gnawing at the back of his mind for some time, but now he just couldn’t ignore it. Not after last night.
He was beginning to care for Serena.
Theo knew his concern for her was starting to grow, especially when he found himself stealing glances every chance he got. Noting her small habits. Getting annoyed whenever she brushed him off. Told him not to worry about her.
Did things on her own and refused to rely on him. And instead went to others for help with her countless strange projects. He knew she did it because they promised not to get in each other’s way.
But he was starting to regret that.
Theo couldn’t quite say he loved her, he was that far gone. But he had crossed a forbidden line because he liked her now. Wanted to actually be her mate. Stop this fake charade they had going on.
Be the first one she turned to whenever she needed help.
And what sealed it all was last night. Seeing her tear stained and upset, trying to hide her pain from him had been like a bone knife to the heart. It hurt because he wanted to be there for her.
Demand what was going on. What was making her hurt so much. Did it happen often? Theo almost let out a growl at those thoughts, shaking his head to brush the anger rolling off him.
It took everything inside him not to demand answers. Because that would only make her clamp up even more. He made that mistake once and wasn’t going to make it again.
Theo wanted to sigh. He’d stepped into dangerous territory and knew if he tried to tell Serena the truth, she’d probably run. End everything they had going. So his only choice was keeping it all buried.
Because it would all be ruined if she caught a hint of what he was feeling towards her.
She didn’t want any mates and was doing everything possible to avoid it. Theo could see it in the way she acted. So, there was no chance she was going to agree to a change in their relationship.
Serena didn’t think of him as anything more than a buddy she lived with.
"What’s up with you today?" A voice suddenly questioned, bringing Theo out of his thoughts.
The tiger beastman glanced up and watched as a large, black bird dropped in front of him, shifting into Jason. The bird beastman gave him a questioning look, clearly confused about his behaviour.
He wasn’t this absent-minded. Especially when they were out hunting.
"I found a herd of deer just south of here." Jason continued. "Singalled you twice."
"Sorry." Theo muttered in beast tongue. "I think I’m just tired."
Which was slightly true. After waking up to find Serena sneaking around, his mind had been in overdrive and he had barely gotten any sleep when they went back to bed.
He was too worried that something else would happen and landed up spending most of the night drifting in and out of sleep, checking to see if Serena was okay.
Jason smirked, immediately getting the wrong idea, "Ah too be young and in love..."
"It wasn’t like that, you idiot." Theo grumbled before he changed the subject. "Now where is that herd you found?"
"South of here. You should be able to catch their scent if you walk a bit." Jason answered with a knowing look. He then shifted into his beast form and added in beast tongue, "Go over to those crooked trees over there. You should catch the scent from there." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
The bird beastman then shot up into the air and began flying to the direction he had told Theo. The tiger beastman shook away the thoughts spiralling in his mind and turned to focus on hunting.

Serena was busy handing Finn some treated wood when Liz suddenly said, "Meat requirement has been collected. Cold season preparation mission has now been completed. Rewards will be sent to your subspace."
It took everything inside Serena to act natural as she heard those words, not wanting to seem crazy in front of Finn. The rabbit beastman was truly amazing when it came to crafting things and Serena wanted to stay on friendly terms with him.
She would definitely need his expertise when building things to develop this city. Finn thanked her for the wood and she smiled faintly before heading over to the hut to grab the rest of the wood for the beehive.
"Warning!" Liz suddenly exclaimed. "Subspace has reached capacity. You can no longer add any items to the subspace and must increase the size or remove items to add more things."
Serena sighed at that, but it was to be expected. She had added quite a few things to her subspace. Thankfully though, she did have a mission that would increase it to level two once she completed it.
There was just a matter of completing it.
As she was collecting the last of the treated wood for the beehive, Serena spotted Jason and Theo approaching the hut. She gave them a small wave in greeting before heading back to Finn.
They planned to get the beehive finished by today, so it could dry. Then tomorrow they’d attempt moving the bees to this new beehive. And if successful, perhaps they could find a few more colonies to increase their amount of bees.
"Here’s the last of it." Serena stated as she placed the last pile of wood next to Finn who was busy making the last frames for the beehive.
She would’ve helped, but the rabbit beastman was against her doing it. So she was stuck watching and compromising by carrying things back and forth.
Finn glanced up at her for a second before he turned back to his task and murmured, "Thanks..."
"No problem." Serena nodded her head. "Let me know if you need anything else."
Finn opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, someone else suddenly called out, "Hey Serena!"
