A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 151: Play Date
Two days passed by quickly and Serena managed to collect all the vegetables she needed for payment. Finn had yet to finish up the pots, but Serena didn’t mind too much.
After all, the rabbit beastman had finally managed to get one part of the grinder perfectly carved out. It took him three attempts but he finally got the hang of it. Now the other parts could get done much quicker.
Of course, there was still the matter of assembling it all together. But it was progress and Serena was getting one step closer to the testing phase.
As for paying Emma for the brown strips, she did so when the beastwoman came by with her mate to drop off her cubs. The older beastman brought the brown strips with him and they did the exchange.
She could now weave some baskets while she watched the cubs.
Granted she wasn’t really able to do much except keep a close eye on the cubs all morning. She showed them the wild birds first, wanting to get that out the way.
Afterwards, she let them run wild in the front of the hut. There was a lot of grass, most dried up and a little brown from the weather, but it was still much different from the cubs usual dirt play area.
They seemed to enjoy running around the front, Serena sometimes having to step in when they got a little rough with each other. But for the most part, they seemed to be having fun.
Theo kept his distance, only coming closer when Serena needed to prepare lunch. The tiger beastman would’ve done it himself, but between the two of them, Serena was better at cooking vegetables.
Not to say Theo was bad at it, but he only knew how to roast and use them in stews and soups. Serena could use the flat stone to cook them which is how they planned to make the vegetables today.
Lunch was a bit of a messy affair, but thankfully the cubs seemed to enjoy most of it. One of Wilma’s cubs didn’t enjoy eating some of the vegetables, but Serena didn’t mind too much. Wilma had told her the cub was picky.
Although his brother was the complete opposite, eating until he put himself into a food coma. Which was how they landed up where they were now. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Theo was laying on the grass in his beast form with the cubs napping around him, having exhausted themselves. It was funny how they got used to Theo’s presence when they found they could use the beastman as a heater.
And that he was willing to do whatever they asked.
So much so, Serena had to step in a few times to make sure no one accidentally hurt themselves. Because the last thing she wanted to do was send an injured cub back home after being entrusted with them.
"You should rest..." Theo huffed out softly in beast tongue, his eyes flickering to her hands.
She was sitting in front of him, using this downtime to weave a basket. She wasn’t sure when she would get another chance, so was doing it now.
"I’m fine." Serena whispered back, neither one wanting to wake the cubs. "I need to get these baskets weaved now that I have the chance."
They were finally getting a moment of peace and Serena had to admit this was one of the hardest things she had ever done. Which said a lot considering what she’d done.
However, it made her understand why Wilma and Emma tag-teamed watching over the cubs along with their mates. It was easier when there were more eyes on them.
Theo let out a puff and shook his head. "You don’t know when to stop. It’s almost something with you..."
Serena pursed her lips at his words, but she couldn’t exactly deny what he said. She was always doing something, trying to keep her hands busy. Rarely did she just sit and relax.
Maybe it was a force of habit. Because she needed to keep herself busy so her mind wouldn’t run wild.
"Let me finish this one and then I’ll stop okay." Serena finally compromised.
"Hmm..." Theo murmured, closing his eyes.
Serena kept silent as she continued to work, her gaze shifting to Theo every now and then. It was a little hard to believe, but the tiger beastman was pretty good with cubs. More so than she imagined.
Honestly it didn’t fit that aloofness of his, though he did mellow out from that jerkish attitude of his. Guess he could be nice when he wanted to.
Or maybe it was because he was used to Kiro’s presence. Serena had to admit the cub had an affect on her too. If someone told her she’d be raising a child months ago, she would’ve scoffed at them.
Because that would be the last thing she ever did. Yet here she was.
Theo felt her gaze on him and snapped an eye open. He then asked quietly, "Something the matter?"
"Nothing..." Serena shook her head, averting her gaze for a moment as she turned back to the half-forgotten basket. "I’m just surprised that you’re good with cubs... Didn’t take you for that."
"Cubs are innocent and nice." Theo murmured. "I have problems with the adults... They’re the ones that like scheming."
"I suppose I can’t deny that." Serena mused. "Though I admit you’re much nicer than when we first met."
Theo scoffed at her words. "And you’re less secretive."
Serena shook her head at those words, not bothering to respond to it because it was true. Mostly. She still had her secrets, but they were less than before.
Theo suddenly lifted his head, carefully not to wake the cubs as he moved. Serena craned her neck as well, noticing that there were a few people heading towards them.
"Seems it’s time for the cubs to go home." Serena murmured, recognizing the figures. "Should we wake the cubs?"
Theo shook his head. "No. Let them do it. I’m not dealing with cranky cubs."
Serena pursed her lips at that, but let him be, getting up to greet the others.
