Chapter 457: A New Sickness

The problem isn’t that big of a deal for regular people who have already given birth in the past and no longer have the desire to make a new child in the foreseeable future. In fact, this would be a nice thing as that would mean they won’t be able to conceive no matter how much they do it on bed.

But that is only for those who have already done the deed and have produced their offspring. What about those who have yet to start a family and just got married? Those who wanted to have a child only for this strange sickness to appear and ruin their plans?

As much as doctors have been trying to understand what is happening, there is no definitive proof about it.

"So, there is no proof that this illness exists, but it is actually there? Can’t the specialist of this kind detect this problem?" Elaina is bewildered. There is no way the women suddenly can’t reproduce all of a sudden without any reason. And it wasn’t just a coincidence, considering that the women, even in neighboring kingdoms, are also reporting this kind of problem.

"I have no idea either, Miss Elaina. I am already having my lack of sleep disrupt my life like this now, due to how I have to stay up late just to study the new problem, and whether it was really an illness or there might be an underlying problem I don’t know," Dr. Fey said, while yawning.

In the efforts of finding out the problem that has recently surged among women, Elaina decided to check and ask questions with Dr. Fey, as she is the one who always gets the patients who have these problems. At first, Elaina only wanted to know what the rough outline of the problem but it turned out to be a bit more complicated than it ever was.

"How many patients have reported this problem by now?"

"Most women I receive with that problem are between the ages of 23 to 40 years old. There are some rare cases for some 50-year-old women, but it is pretty rare. The most common ones, though, are 25-year-old women. Most of them have recently gotten married, and after hearing the recent problem, they decided to have a checkup, and now, they have learned of this problem. It is like a female epidemic problem now, as it is only exclusive to women," Dr. Fey said.

"Are you sure it wasn’t the men’s problem? After all, it’s not always women who are sterile; there are times it was a man’s problem."

"That line of thought has already been debunked by the other doctors. They have said before that the men are not the problem here. They are fertile and can contribute to the baby-making. The problem all comes from the female body, which is why most doctors have focused on women who have problems."

After Elaina gathered information from Dr. Fey, Elaina returned home and compiled the information about this matter and decided to talk with the God of Farming if he could talk with the Goddess of Fertility.

"[Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep in contact with her. According to the other Gods who have gone to see her, there was some kind of problem happening, and she was currently in isolation to solve this. I have no idea when she will be available again, so if you plan to ask her about this recent development related to pregnancies, all you can do right now is wait for the development. I can tell you if she is going to be available then, but right now, there is no way for you to be able to communicate with her.]" the God of Farming answered.

"I see. What about you, God of Farming? I know you aren’t related to this matter, but do you think it was a sickness? According to the doctors, they have trouble proving whether it was an illness or it was just something that was normally happening to women."

"[Honestly, I am not so sure. According to the Goddess of Medicine, not too long ago, some of her medicines that she developed and parted ways to most of her followers had no effect. She suspects that this problem might not even be curable by medicine, or there must be something else that causes it, which she thinks might be the reason it cannot be easily cured by regular medicinal approach and even regular magic.]"

"How about using the Laporal? That thing was supposed to help with increasing fertility, right? Can this help with the ongoing problem?" Elaina asked.

"[There is a chance, but because Laporal is still something we developed not for countering this problem but to encourage high fertility and curing sterile men and women, it was supposed to be more of a little push to the fertility domain. Considering that we don’t know what this problem in the first place is, there is a chance that the effects of Laporal might not even work. But considering its effect, perhaps a medicine can be the answer to the problem.]"

"If that is the case, can you at least edit the heck out of this Laporal’s information? It is said that it is good to be used as juice, and its plump and juicy fruit is good for regular consumption, but this thing is worse than a lemon. At least in lemon, one can feel the sour and the sweetness blend together, but Laporal’s sourness is accompanied by this sudden disgusting taste I couldn’t describe."

"[Ha, sorry about that, but even I have less control over that. It was one of the things that the Goddess of Medicine wanted the fruit to retain in exchange for helping me out. As much as I wanted it to be quite good for drinking, that problem is something I couldn’t remove. I even have to put a deceptive description on it just so you take the seed and have it. I can offer you my apologies for that.]"

Elaina sighed. "Fine. But is the effect legit though? Is it really meant to cure infertility and even sterile people?"

"[100 percent sure. The taste department might be a lie, but that doesn’t mean the main effect was lie.]"

Now that Elaina confirmed it, perhaps this problem is only something the Laporal can solve. The taste might be a problem at the moment, but Elaina now has an idea on what to do about it. And she has to make sure this works well as that will be the main way for the Laporal to be well known to the world soon."
