A Twisted Love Affair-Chapter 49: Do you want love _1
Chapter 49: Do you want love _1
She curved her lips. "Is that not okay?" Her fingers gently twirled his tie, toying with it. "Zhou Luchen, can we not have a kept relationship? I don’t like that kind of arrangement."
He laughed and leisurely lit a cigarette, looking out the window.
In the silence, only the faint scent of nicotine wafted over.
Indeed, if Shen Jing wasn’t willing, Zhou Luchen was also reluctant to entangle with her any further. Overall, it was just unclear.
It wasn’t love, but he did feel a favorable desire for her.
He had no interest in bringing up the idea of keeping her a second time.
Once she declined, he couldn’t be bothered to mention it again.
The tie in her hands was nearly twisted into knots. Zhou Luchen lifted his gaze, the cigarette clenched in his mouth. "Don’t your hands get tired from all that pulling?"
Finally, she withdrew her hand. "Won’t you answer me?"
Through the lingering smoke, Zhou Luchen slowly eyed her, his gaze shimmering like water, captivating and sensual. "Take love if you want it; I can give nothing else."
His reply was ruthless.
As for anything else, she shouldn’t even dream of it.
Shen Jing looked at him. "I have money. Let me think about it some more."
Shen Jing indeed lacked nothing financially; her father had left her a large inheritance, enough for several lifetimes.
But she hadn’t touched that inheritance and hadn’t been to Beijing for a long while.
Living comfortably was enough for her; that was the confidence and support her father had left her.
She also feared Feng Jian finding out; he would surely latch onto her desperately.
Zhou Luchen, however, hadn’t pressed her on whether she was really short of money.
His phone rang. CEO Zhou is certainly busy. Seeing he couldn’t be bothered with her, Shen Jing had to push open the car door and leave.
She still had to dry radishes and wasn’t in the mood to play his games. He didn’t have an ounce of genuine affection to offer. Flirting to ease loneliness? Anyone could do that.
When she turned back, the night was dim, the streetlights along the small path cast a feeble glow, and the Maybach had already driven away from the small town.
Shen Jing entered the courtyard and encountered Wei Sulin.
"Aren’t you going back with him? What are you doing here? With no heating or air conditioning, is it comfortable to stay here at night?"
Shen Jing hugged her arms, head lowered as she walked. "Why don’t you install a heater for Granny?"
An offhand remark directly inspired Wei Sulin. "Wait, I’ll have someone come and install it tomorrow. I must let the old lady see my sincerity."
During dinner, it was fried radishes again.
Granny Xu ate light meals with little oil and salt.
Shen Jing often ordered takeout.
Granny Xu took the bowl of rice Shen Jing had served her and, without touching her chopsticks, asked, "Do you know someone from the Zhou Family in Shanghai?"
Shen Jing sat down. "How do you know he’s from the Zhou Family?"
Granny Xu had lived for seventy years and, with her sharp eyes, could discern the affection young people tried to conceal with a single glance.
"It’s still that boyfriend of yours that you quarreled with. I can tell just by the way you two look at each other. Even your pretense of propriety can’t escape my eyes."
Shen Jing was taken aback by Granny Xu’s directness. After a while, she shook her head. "He’s not my boyfriend yet."
Granny Xu generously offered her assessment of Zhou Luchen’s features. "He has the look of a heartless man."
Shen Jing put her chopsticks down and gave a thumbs-up in agreement.
"Granny, you are truly insightful. I feel the same way."
Zhou Luchen’s heart and body seemed like two separate souls.
Granny Xu glanced at Shen Jing. "Such a person is not suitable for marriage. Don’t wrong yourself."
After that, Zhou Luchen didn’t come again.
Wei Sulin’s resolve to help Granny Xu move houses, however, remained unshaken.
With Shen Jing living inside, Wei Sulin dared not let the construction crew start the job.
He came day after day and, as it turned out, had the heating installed first.
But Granny Xu was not one to be easily swayed, and she ignored it all.
The Wei Group started construction anyway, and nearby villagers continually complained about Granny Xu’s stubbornness, refusing even free money.
Granny Xu dug out an old push-button mobile phone. Being old, she wasn’t very adept at using it.
"Ajing, come here," Granny Xu waved Shen Jing over. "Turn it on for me. I need to get someone over here."
Shen Jing took it and powered it on.
There was even a particularly loud startup tune.
