A Twisted Love Affair-Chapter 51: Certainly unfounded_1
Chapter 51: Certainly unfounded_1
Zhou Luchen didn’t get a chance to respond.
His phone rang.
Chen Yao glanced over. The caller ID showed: Wenxin.
"Achen."
The voice on the other end still carried its usual cool, beautiful tone, concealing a subtle tranquility.
Zhou Luchen lowered his gaze and looked at the kitten in his arms, merely making a sound of acknowledgment.
He always inadvertently reserved his rare moments of tenderness for her. Wenxin’s lips curved slightly. "Are you outside? Or at work? It’s so quiet."
Zhou Luchen laughed. "Want to check on me?"
There was a pause on the other end before she said, "I just wanted to know what you’ve been up to recently."
"Playing around."
Zhou Luchen could easily carry the cat in one palm. His strong, powerful hand cradled the small kitten, the visual contrast in their sizes striking as the young master quite contentedly toyed with it.
MEOW~
The cat’s soft mewing made Wenxin frown. "Since when did you start enjoying playing with cats?"
Zhou Luchen’s smile deepened. "Soft, obedient."
Wenxin looked down. Was he implying she wasn’t obedient? For once, her pride completely faded. "Will you come to Switzerland again?" she asked.
Zhou Luchen glanced sideways out the window. "If I have time."
He was always so cold and arrogant. Wenxin knew him best and still had the patience to coax him. "I hope you’re not getting involved in Tong Village’s affairs on my account. My Wei Family’s business has nothing to do with your Zhou Family; I won’t trouble you."
Zhou Luchen’s frown was barely perceptible, but a tumult slowly rose in his eyes as he remained silent.
After a few seconds of silence on the other end, Wei Wenxin, who understood Zhou Luchen better than anyone, took the initiative to hang up.
Chen Yao didn’t dare make a sound and earnestly drove the car, delivering him back to Night Mansion.
That Wenxin.
She was the daughter of the Wei Family head’s second wife, who had been raised outside the family. Only after becoming Zhou Luchen’s girlfriend two years prior did she officially enter the Wei Family, becoming a genuine princess of the Wei Family.
She was Wei Sulin’s paternal half-sister and went by her mother’s surname, Wen. Thus, Wenxin was also Wei Wenxin.
Throughout the long drive, Chen Yao asked nothing, trying his best not to speak.
He glanced at the white cat.
Luckily, it was sleeping peacefully in Zhou Luchen’s arms.
Just as they reached Night Mansion’s vast lawns, Second Young Master Zhou pushed open the car door and got out, abandoning the kitten on the passenger seat with an extremely indifferent motion.
Right. That princess’s phone call had once again spoiled Second Young Master Zhou’s mood.
When he was happy, he’d pamper the cat until it was comfortable and content. When he got tired of it, he’d toss it onto the passenger seat.
Chen Yao drove into the garage and carried the kitten upstairs.
However, once a sobered-up Zhou Luchen entered the mansion, he immediately grabbed his car keys.
In just two or three minutes, the black G-Wagon made a sleek turn and sped away from the villa complex.
「—」
Shen Jing had been up all night, and the man in the next room hadn’t slept either—SMACK, SMACK—he was swatting mosquitoes.
The house Zhou Xiangqun was staying in didn’t have air conditioning.
Poor Eldest Young Master of the Zhou Family.
Another SMACK, followed by the CLATTER of something falling to the ground.
She remembered Zhou Xiangqun kept the windows in his room open, saying he wanted the fresh mountain air to blow in.
What fresh air? All that flew into his room to serve him were mosquitoes.
Completely undone, Shen Jing burrowed under the blanket, clutching her stomach. "Hahaha..." She laughed like that for a good while.
BEEP.
Stifling her remaining laughter, Shen Jing pulled out her phone.
135***00: "Stop laughing. I heard you."
Shen Jing was slightly stunned.
What kind of soundproofing did this house have?
And how did Zhou Xiangqun get her number?
But with the status of the Zhou Family’s Eldest Young Master, getting her number would be effortless.
Shen Jing typed, "Sorry, Mr. Zhou, I really couldn’t hold it in."
Zhou Xiangqun: "Next time you’re secretly laughing, keep it down."
Shen Jing typed, "You could just close your window."
She had just sent it.
A moment later, the man’s low, slow voice sounded from just outside her window.
"That’s a terrible idea of yours," he said. "If I close the window, all the mosquitoes will be trapped in my room to keep me company."
Shen Jing peeked out from her covers. There was no more sound outside; he had probably just been passing by.
"Mr. Zhou, aren’t you going to sleep?" Shen Jing then kindly advised Zhou Xiangqun, "There’s a rocking chair in the yard. You can lie on that."
Zhou Xiangqun, standing in the yard, slowly turned his gaze to her small room and chuckled.
With no other choice, Zhou Xiangqun lay down on the rocking chair in the yard, letting the wind blow over him.
Shen Jing tossed and turned in bed.
She began to wonder why Zhou Xiangqun had to get involved personally. As she wondered, the thought made her hungry.
She craved the ice jelly her granny had made the previous night.
She got up and went to the kitchen to get two bowls—one for Zhou Xiangqun and one for herself—before returning to her room.
Her phone rang again at this moment. Shen Jing didn’t hurry to check, thinking it was Zhou Xiangqun with another question. It rang once more.
Two messages from Zhou Luchen.
"Come out to the entrance."
"Shen Jing."
Shen Jing stared blankly at her phone. It’s half-past three in the morning. What on earth is the Second Young Master up to?
The drive from Shanghai to Tong Village, normally two hours, had been forcefully cut by Zhou Luchen to just one hour and thirteen minutes.
Shen Jing leaned against the courtyard gate, holding a bowl of green rice ball ice jelly, slowly spooning it into her mouth.
A few meters ahead, a black G-Wagon was parked. Zhou Luchen leaned against it, head tilted as he lit a cigarette. After a deep inhale, he slowly exhaled a plume of smoke.
His elegant figure, shrouded in the dim, hazy light, seemed imbued with a profound, almost palpable languor.
In all her memories of Zhou Luchen, he had never rushed to see her like this.
Zhou Luchen flicked the ash from his cigarette, his deep-set eyes lingering on the half-smoked cigarette held between his index and middle fingers for a good while before he tossed it to the ground and crushed it out with his leather shoe.
"What are you eating?"
His voice, thick and hoarse from nicotine, rasped.
Shen Jing licked the sweetness from the tip of her tongue. "The green rice ball ice jelly Granny made for me."
Zhou Luchen said nothing.
He looked up again. Only then did Shen Jing clearly see the desolation and weariness in the depths of his eyes. Was he feeling lonely somewhere that he’d come here to find her?
After a moment of silence, Shen Jing felt unease prickle within her, like weeds sprouting in her heart. She avoided his gaze. "Is something wrong?"
Zhou Luchen stepped forward, yanked her into his embrace, and buried his face in her shoulder, his brute strength overwhelmingly pressing her against him.
Shen Jing’s hand, still grasping the bowl, ached and tingled. "Gently, Zhou Luchen."
"Is your hand better?"
His voice was deep, and the concern in it sounded undeniably sexy as it flowed slowly into her ear.
Shen Jing hummed. "It’s better. I can practice my music scores once it’s daylight."
Under the cover of the pitch-black night, Zhou Luchen slowly kissed her neck. She was ticklish and shyly tried to shrink her shoulders, but he quickly held them firm. His kisses grew more intense and meticulous. "Move again, and I’ll bite."
Shen Jing, still craving her treat, couldn’t resist scooping up another small spoonful of ice jelly. Before it reached her mouth, a tingling, slightly painful itch spread along the side of her neck.
His sharp teeth grazed her skin, like a hungry wolf savoring marrow from a bone.
"Zhou Luchen..."
She gasped softly.
"Cough, cough—"
Zhou Xiangqun, leaning against the courtyard gate, deliberately coughed twice to interrupt. His eyes were fixed on the man and woman who appeared intimate like lovers, yet weren’t.
He didn’t know what games these twenty-somethings were playing. Zhou Xiangqun had never witnessed love in his entire life; he’d never had the time for it.
Zhou Luchen didn’t let go. His palm tightened around Shen Jing’s waist, pulling her even closer.
"Your older brother saw us. Stop fooling around."
Zhou Luchen said in a low voice, "That old fossil hasn’t been around women. He wouldn’t understand."
Zhou Xiangqun chuckled. Holding his bowl of ice jelly, he turned back into the courtyard, sneering inwardly. The Zhou Family’s Second Young Master has always been a philanderer. It’s no mere rumor; his reputation is thoroughly deserved.
Shen Jing pushed Zhou Luchen away. "Stop it."
Zhou Luchen’s thumb gently wiped the corner of his own mouth. "Are you living here with him?"
Shen Jing said, "Don’t you know why he’s here?"
As she spoke, Shen Jing refocused on scooping and eating her ice jelly. The green rice ball jelly slid into her mouth, her lips closing around it, her cheeks puffing out slightly as she chewed.
