Chapter 90: Blazing Flames Everywhere (5)_1
Sun Qiyan seemed to see through her, merely smiling. "I noticed as soon as you walked in."
He didn’t ask further; Sun Qiyan’s manner of speaking always carried a refined grace, never making others feel uncomfortable.
Of course, Shen Jing didn’t ask why he was there either.
It was Sun Qiyan who volunteered the information. "Nie Yanzuo and I opened this tea house together. If you like, you and your boyfriend can come over and play."
Once they had finished, Shen Jing washed her hands and came out of the kitchen, with Sun Qiyan following.
Shen Jing said, "I didn’t even know such a place existed. The air is so nice here, filled with the scent of tea."
Sun Qiyan looked up at the night sky. "There’s much you don’t know. I’ll have to take you out sometime."
"That would be nice."
The two chatted and laughed together.
She clasped her hands behind her back. He was the only friend she knew in this place; with him here, she didn’t feel lonely even when she was by herself.
Oftentimes, she found she had little in common with Zhou Luchen’s friends.
Without making a sound, Zhou Luchen stood at the top of the stairs, looking over with a faint expression.
As she lifted her head, Shen Jing’s smile stalled.
Yet Zhou Luchen had that easy calm about him, watching Shen Jing with a lukewarm gaze. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Shen Jing watched him too.
In their silent exchange, Zhou Luchen’s gaze was neither warm nor fiery. When he didn’t speak, it was even harder to guess what he meant.
It was Sun Qiyan who greeted him, "Second Master Zhou."
Zhou Luchen nodded slightly in response, remaining silent, perfectly encapsulating the poise of an aristocratic scion.
Shen Jing had a feeling. They knew each other.
Realizing the atmosphere had grown tense, she walked towards Zhou Luchen. "Are you finished?"
Zhou Luchen gave her a sidelong glance and turned away.
That look was both superficial and superior. Shen Jing didn’t know what had upset him. Seeing that he didn’t wait for her, she pretended to miss a step on the staircase and let out a coy ’Ouch!’
Zhou Luchen snorted lightly but did not turn back to help her.
She exhaled softly. "Can’t you wait for me?"
Zhou Luchen was typically indifferent. "Don’t even think about it."
Knowing he saw through her act, Shen Jing secretly cursed to herself, wondering if he had eyes on the back of his head.
"My foot hurts; I twisted it."
Zhou Luchen’s tone was still indifferent. "You have the strength to move things but not to walk?"
These weren’t comparable situations.
Indeed, completely absorbed in watching his back, Shen Jing nearly stumbled.
"AH—"
Just then, Zhou Luchen precisely reached back and caught her, narrowly saving her from a tumble down the stairs.
Shen Jing steadied her footing and stood still.
Zhou Luchen cursed under his breath and took her straight to the grove.
The wind rustled the leaves—SWISH, SWISH—; moonlight cast fleeting shadows all around. The man before her stood unaffected by the breeze. He drew closer and closer until Shen Jing subconsciously stepped back, her back hitting a tree.
In the darkness, the tall figure of Zhou Luchen looked down at her from above.
Shen Jing’s breathing quickened, and her heart raced. "Don’t... Your friends are nearby. We can’t... not here!"
His eyes narrowed. "What can’t we do?"
Shen Jing’s voice softened. "You know... that."
Zhou Luchen’s smile was slow and teasing as he grasped her waist firmly. "Which thing?"
He was obviously teasing her, and Shen Jing huffed, "We can’t."
Zhou Luchen stood there, his upper body leaning in. He whispered in her ear, his breath deep, elongating his ’Oh?’ meaningfully, as if nibbling on her ear.
"Is this the only thing on your mind when it comes to me?" he asked sarcastically.
Shen Jing stood on her tiptoes and bit his shoulder. "How is it my fault? Isn’t that how you always are?"
It was clearly he who had trained her so well; with just a look or a gesture, she knew whether he desired her or not.
