Chapter 89: Blazing Flames Everywhere (4)_1

When Zhou Luchen returned after hanging up the phone, the only single-seat sofa in the hall had been graciously offered to Shen Jing.

She didn’t put on airs with false modesty but sat down openly and comfortably.

Standing behind the sofa was Zhou Luchen. One hand was idly in his pocket, while the other playfully wound strands of her hair around his long fingers.

Now and then, he joked and laughed with his friend, "Why not push him onto the stage?"

His friend agreed, saying, "Then you be the one to push."

Who were they talking about pushing, and for what reason? Shen Jing didn’t know. Perhaps it was time for some corporation to change its CEO.

Zhou Luchen, however, hadn’t forgotten about her. His warm fingertips, whether intentionally or not, grazed the skin of her nape up to the curve of her ear, blurring the line between a tender caress and amorous flirtation.

She was like a languid, pampered cat, nestling against his touch. freewēbnoveℓ.com

The stroke of midnight—a moment of romance.

The night sky burst into a dazzling array of fireworks.

This suburban area had safety measures in place, allowing one to simply look up from here and enjoy the fireworks.

Nie Yanzuo, in an effort to please his new wife, had chosen this well-secured suburban area and applied for a permit to set off fireworks.

Nie Yanzuo wrapped his arm around his wife under the eaves. She pointed at the fireworks and laughed joyfully; the scene was exceptionally warm and tender.

Zhou Luchen leaned in and told her, "They’ve just married. He’s trying to make his wife happy."

Shen Jing leaned back on the sofa and turned to ask him, "So, I’m just lucky to be able to see these fireworks, thanks to them?"

He remained standing behind her, looking up at the fireworks with her.

"You like that stuff?" Zhou Luchen sneered. "Don’t you find it boring?"

How could it be boring? Every time Disney has a fireworks show, aren’t the crowds still shoulder to shoulder?

Shen Jing felt Zhou Luchen couldn’t empathize with the fleeting romance of a firework’s splendid, momentary burst.

He would find it too common, too mundane. Nothing worth savoring.

Shen Jing watched the sky filled with brilliantly unfolding fireworks, which seemed to bloom in her heart. A thought arose in her mind: Who could possibly know how head over heels I am for him?

But just then, someone called out, "Luchen, come and help me with this."

Zhou Luchen bent down and whispered near her right shoulder, "Wait for me. Don’t wander off."

Shen Jing turned to him. "Will there be more fireworks?"

His fingers softly touched her tender face. Then he turned away, tossing out a single, dismissive word: "Pollution."

That meant no more.

Shen Jing turned to watch his retreating figure.

She didn’t even know when she had started adopting his nocturnal habits—sleeping during the day and living at night. She wouldn’t be getting any fireworks from him; their preferences had always been on different wavelengths.

So she just watched Nie Yanzuo and his wife embrace under the fireworks.

Shen Jing turned away, diverting her gaze, unable to stomach their public display of affection.

But then, the lights flickered. Why was the person emerging from the teahouse next door Sun Qiyan?

His gaze on her was complex—a mixture of surprise and something peculiar—yet he ultimately couldn’t resist letting the corners of his mouth curve into a smile.

Later, when she heard Nie Yanzuo greet Sun Qiyan, calling him "Chef," she realized they knew each other. He was apparently a rather renowned private kitchen chef.

Sun Qiyan was moving kitchenware, fruits, and vegetables, box after box.

Shen Jing hesitated for a moment. Then, as Sun Qiyan passed by, she stood up. "Let me help you with that."

Sun Qiyan looked at her for a moment, then gestured towards the small boxes on the right side of the vehicle. "Take the light ones."

After speaking, he seemed to regret it. "It’s inconvenient in a cheongsam. There isn’t much; I can handle it myself."

Shen Jing had already bent down.

All those young masters were preoccupied. With him moving a full carload by himself, how long would that take?

In her well-behaved manner, she seemed to find the task somewhat strenuous.

Sun Qiyan, therefore, didn’t stop her. "Came with your boyfriend?"

"Ah?" Shen Jing, walking behind him, replied, "Oh."

It was a vague response, a habit she had picked up ever since she started staying by Zhou Luchen’s side.
