Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 418 ’Demon King
Donald’s Perspective
Seeing the mechanism I had painstakingly set up being breached, Austin’s composed facade cracked, his gaze toward me filled with venom and hatred. He roared hysterically, "Impossible! How could your bullets possibly sever my arrows? These arrows are made of..."
"Are you trying to say they’re made from special materials? I knew that much already." I interrupted Austin without hesitation, smirking contemptuously at him.
"You... how do you know they’re made of special materials? Impossible, that’s my secret," Austin stuttered, his question faltering.
Shifting my gaze away from him, I turned to Henry, "You should be thanking Henry and Levi for that! If they hadn’t put on such a splendid show with your bow and arrows earlier, I might have fallen for your little tricks."
"Having greater lethality than regular bullets does make your contraptions pretty good, but that’s all they are, just pretty good! They still don’t amount to much compared to the new weapons we have at our disposal." I said with a light sneer, catching a glimpse of Austin’s stunned expression in the corner of my eye.
Henry, seemingly caught off guard by this as well, narrowed his eyes, bristling with murderous intent as he locked his gaze with mine.
"Did you really only bring these few dozen Lycans with you today? You might want to take back all the big talk you just spouted, because who lives and who dies today is still up in the air!" Henry finished, lifting his wrist, his gun trained directly on my heart.
He didn’t shoot me right away, but the gesture acted like some kind of signal as the soldiers surrounding us suddenly raised their arms in unison, tearing off the long, strip-shaped pendants around their necks.
This scene was not unfamiliar to me; I had witnessed the exact same scenario in previous battles. I ducked down and barked out a warning, "Everyone on guard! These soldiers are about to transform with the help of a serum injection, handle them with care!" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Before I could even finish roaring out my warning, those soldiers didn’t even blink as they plunged the needle into their major arteries!
Instantly, the space was filled with the bizarre and agonized howling of the mutating Werewolves; their wolf forms started to grow wildly, especially the upper limbs. Any semblance of reason in their wolf eyes vanished in an instant, leaving only terrifying whites of the eyes swimming with blood.
"Roar!"
The unending roars thundered, Christian swallowed hard, speaking somewhat nervously, "Your Majesty! Do you think their combat power will be as strong as that Monster Wolf outside?"
I too wished to know the answer to this question. After a 2-second silence, I replied, "Didn’t Austin just mention that the Monster Wolf is called ’Demon King’? I figure something they would name as their trump card isn’t likely to be mass-produced."
Indeed, my speculation was correct. The creatures that had successfully mutated thanks to the soldiers’ injections were nowhere near as enormous as the ’Demon King’, nor as dexterous and formidable in combat, but they were far from your typical rogue-modified monsters!
But what was even more frightening was their sheer numbers, which were several times our own, and their bodies’ higher pain threshold. They were veritable, fearless war machines.
I swatted a monster that was too close for comfort, my grey-green eyes gleaming with a bloodthirsty will to fight, "We can’t outlast them in a battle of endurance, we need to make this quick!"
Saying this, I glanced sideways at Christian and a few other members of the personal guard force Lycans, lowering my voice to issue a command, "You’re responsible for covering me and Elliot. I’m going to charge in and rescue Margaret! Elliot, you’ll have to keep Henry busy for a while, don’t let him get in my way. Do you all understand?"
Following my urgent order, the Lycans immediately nodded in understanding and started to engage with the surrounding creatures after completing their shift!
Seeing this, I quickly moved closer to the platform, with Elliot and Christian right behind me. I looked at Margaret not far away, thinking to myself: The last 10 meters!
Smart as Henry and Martha were, they quickly discerned my real intentions.
They retreated while harshly directing the surrounding creatures to leap at me, attempting to obstruct my path.
I clenched my teeth, my eyes bloodshot, staring down the mother and son as I bellowed, "Give Margaret back to me, Henry!"
Margaret had been struggling all along to break free from Martha and Henry’s hold, but she was far too weak to stop them from forcefully taking her onto the yacht!
I dodged a creature’s attack with grace, pushed hard off the ground with my hind legs, and leapt onto the high platform without pause, hurling myself towards Margaret.
Seeing my diving figure, Henry’s eyes widened slightly. He completed his shift in an instant, howling and attempting to engage me, but Elliot, who was following close behind, didn’t give him the chance!
"Go to hell, Henry!"
