Abyss Sequence-Chapter 442 - 17: The End of the Incident
As Yan Luo opened the Space Box, he took out one medical device after another.
Besides bringing medical devices to Pearl City, the Space Box also contained some anesthetics and drugs needed for the deactivation treatment of the parasites.
The situation in Pearl City was not as severe as in Mayin City. The elves here used magic to check their bodies and found that many had no parasite eggs inside them. Even if parasitized, it was at an early stage where deactivating the parasites without further treatment wouldn’t affect their activities.
After some inspection and speculation, the elves in Pearl City discovered that the shellfish-like demons they bred had protected them from disaster.
Like Mayin City, Pearl City had a clear water source flowing through the river in the city.
However, the elves in Pearl City had bred a large number of shellfish demons, and their breeding also attracted smaller aquatic demons.
The mastermind spread parasite eggs in the river, but those eggs were swallowed by the demons, leaving few to actually end up ingested by the elves.
They speculated that because the previous eggs were eaten by river demons, the surplus eggs eventually reached the elves once the demons got parasitized.
The parasites in Mayin City had developed to the point of controlling the elves’ bodies, while those in Pearl City hadn’t even reached a stage where deactivation would affect life and activity.
For the elves of Pearl City, this was both good and bad news.
Not being controlled by parasites was a great thing worthy of celebration, but at the same time, their lifeline, the river shellfish, was parasitized, causing them distress.
Yan Luo pulled a shellfish demon from the water, pried open the shell, and looked inside, his expression soon turned peculiar.
There were indeed parasites inside the giant shellfish, and they were quite active.
However, the shellfish were not being controlled.
Shellfish are invertebrates and lack a central nervous system and brain, meaning they don’t have a system to coordinate body activities.
Though now parasitized, the parasites couldn’t control the shellfish, merely growing within them.
If the parasites were left to grow, they might eventually consume the shellfish and expose themselves to the air.
But in that case, the elves of Pearl City could easily eliminate them.
After all, these parasites are not strong, only possessing special abilities.
Now that it’s known parasites cannot control the shellfish and will eventually consume them, solving this becomes much easier.
Like solving the elves’ parasitic problem, as long as the parasites in the shellfish are deactivated, they would be gradually absorbed by the shellfish.
Yan Luo conveyed this news to the elves of Pearl City, who immediately cheered.
They were undoubtedly lucky; although the surrounding environment was similar to Mayin City’s, they didn’t suffer the same fate. They remained unharmed, and even their bred shellfish could be easily cured.
This time coming to Pearl City, Yan Luo brought plenty of drugs. Since deactivating the parasites in the shellfish doesn’t require anesthetics—the shellfish don’t have pain perception—and the deactivating drugs were made from local Alfheim materials, it should be possible to treat all the shellfish in the river if progress goes well.
After deactivation treatment using medical devices, all elves in Pearl City were quickly cured, and Yan Luo used the devices he brought to check the remaining elves, finding parasite eggs in some.
For parasite eggs, Blue Star’s doctors already devised a treatment plan, preloaded into the medical devices, so treatment wasn’t difficult.
During treatment, the elves of Pearl City were once again awed by Blue Star’s technology.
Is this what their students sent to Blue Star are supposed to learn?
Yan Luo stayed in Pearl City for five days, treating all the shellfish, then handed the formula for the deactivation drug developed by Blue Star doctors to the Lord of Pearl City.
The materials for this drug came from Alfheim, so once they mastered the formula, the elves could use magic to produce it themselves.
Once made, the drug should be injected into the parasites.
However, parasites usually reside in the spine, and injecting the drug might injure the spine, causing pain to the patient.
Aside from that, the drug has no side effects and is suitable for all elves.
No need to worry about allergies or side effects because the drug doesn’t go into the elves’ bodies, only the parasites’. Once deactivated, the drug is fully consumed, not affecting the elves.
With repeated thanks from the elves of Pearl City, Yan Luo opened a space portal outside the city and returned to the Crimson Abyss.
The elves of Pearl City paid their reward—half a Space Box of pearls.
This was the only payment the elves could offer, and Yan Luo and the humans were uninterested in other forms.
Back in the Crimson Abyss, Yan Luo rose into the air, looking around to confirm his location before marking it on the offline map.
Now, the offline map of the Crimson Abyss had several marked points: the commonly used inter-world trade portal in the Gass Forest, the marker in Mayin City, and the one outside Pearl City.
Alfheim was much larger and more dangerous than the Crimson Abyss. With these markers, they could use them to jump, shortening travel time and increasing efficiency.
Yan Luo connected the three markers and estimated that what took several days in Alfheim could be done in under eighteen hours in the Crimson Abyss.
When he returns to Blue Star, he’ll share this data with others so they can travel quickly between cities when he’s unavailable to go to Alfheim.
Having finished, Yan Luo flew toward the Abyss’s exit.
The marker outside Pearl City was in the Dark Forest, closer to the Abyss exit than the one in the Gass Forest.
From this point, Yan Luo could reach the No.2 Crimson exit in under an hour, just a few dozen minutes.
If he used supersonic flight, he could be even faster.
Passing through the frosted-glass-like portal, Yan Luo landed once more on Blue Star’s ground.
It had been over ten days since he was last back, and he was particularly nostalgic.
"It’s Yan Luo! Yan Luo is back!"
As Yan Luo passed the checkpoint, the soldiers there couldn’t help but cheer.
Yan Luo gave them a curious glance, "Is my return so surprising?"
A soldier familiar with Yan Luo chuckled and patted his arm, "You don’t know, do you? Your and Ms. Bilukova’s names are everywhere online. Those elves from Alfheim keep praising you two, thanking you both in interviews."
Yan Luo couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
Elves value simplicity and repayment of kindness. Indeed, he and Ms. Bilukova were kind to the elves of Mayin City, but it shouldn’t be to this degree.
The next moment, with a change in thought, Yan Luo understood why this was happening.
Without the United Government’s permission, reporters wouldn’t be able to interview the elves of Mayin City. Being interviewed indicated prior approval from the United Government.
This meant that what the elves said in interviews was likely orchestrated by the United Government.
Though the elves were aesthetically pleasing to humans, many still held prejudices against them as another species.
However, if the Mayin City elves thanked him and Ms. Bilukova in interviews, those prejudiced might feel oddly proud, reducing hostility towards elves.
Reducing hostility to a certain extent would render remaining animosity moot, unable to affect the situation.
