Chapter 50: 035 This damn sense of ritual_2

“What are you all dazed for? We’re getting new ships and weapons! Hahaha!”

“Guka has already set sail, Captain!”

“That damned Guka, dare him to touch my money and see what happens!”

Anger filled Kimo’s eyes.

“Beat them to it, and move it! You overfed idiots!”

...

“Kolev’s fortune?”

Lina massaged her brow, staring at the blip on the radar screen.

This Light Escort Ship’s propulsion system was beyond her imagination; the battleship had almost lost them several times.

Lina knew that her operators had done their best.

The Light Battlecruiser, due to its large size, had stricter requirements for the gravitational field around it when attempting to jump, and nobody wanted to be accountable for the consequences of a risky jump.

But the ship ahead didn’t care about that, continuing to perform dangerous maneuvers.

Lina just wanted to end all this as quickly as possible.

She had asked several times if they could open fire, only to be told either the lock-on time was insufficient or there was something obstructing them.

And now, Lina received new information from the members of the Black Dragon Pirate Group she had bribed.

A message system left by Kolev on the pirate ships, which had gone untouched for over ten years, was triggered by Kolev’s death; a deserted city on Olhaif Planet hid the great pirate Kolev’s treasure, and five pirate ships were swarming toward Olhaif Planet.

Lina quickly pieced the information together.

She had been puzzled as to why Hanton had taken Kolev to Olhaif.

Now the answer was clear—Hanton must have found out about Kolev’s treasure hidden on Olhaif and wanted a part of it, while Kolev, cunning as ever, tried to turn the tables by using the gun in the safe to kill Hanton.

But what was Hanton in such a rush for the money for?

Lina pondered carefully, watching the blip on the radar screen jump again as the ship made another hasty jump.

Such risky behavior was typical of Hanton.

‘He must want to grab the money and make a run for it, and Kolev was just a fat sheep.’

‘Yes, Hanton only wants to hide now, but he needs a livelihood, he needs money to buy Genetic Stabilization Liquid.’

‘But why would Hanton…’

Lina’s thoughts became slightly scattered.

“Commander!”

The young intelligence officer rushed over, whispering, “The Black Dragon Pirate Group has gathered around Olhaif, sending out dozens of landing boats like mad dashing toward the ruins, with five ships very close to the surface. They’re split into two groups, facing off.”

Lina replied coolly, “Even if those pirates bash their brains out, it’s none of our concern!”

“Commander!”

A reminder came from the left console, “We’ve tracked the jump point of the target… The ship with the primary target has appeared near Olhaif!”

Lina hesitated.

A flicker of contemplation sped through her eyes. “Hanton wants Kolev’s fortune? That’s somewhat illogical.”

“Commander,” the young intelligence officer asked quietly, “you were raised on the Head Star, right?”

“Yes, what about it?”

“For many people, money is everything,” the officer reminded, “the primary target is at his wit’s end, and pirate treasure is secret wealth that could be his future security.”

“No matter what, catch up to him,” Lina ordered immediately, “jump now!”

“But, Commander…”

The captain’s voice rang out, “We’ve been led to the edge of a complex Twin Star gravitational field, we need to get clear of the area before we can initiate a jump.”

Lina’s expression stiffened slightly.

“The opponent has calculated everything, Commander Lina,” the captain whispered, “perhaps we should reassess our opponent. He doesn’t seem like an ordinary Imperial officer. He’s played us for fools. And my ship isn’t suited for this kind of pursuit; maybe we should deploy two smaller, more agile light escort ships.”

“I’ll report to the higher-ups as soon as possible,” Lina said, “but for now, leave the gravitational interference zone at maximum speed and return to Olhaif. If target one chooses to land on Olhaif, that will be our only chance to catch him!”

The captain shrugged and turned to issue orders.

Lina felt anxious, she crossed her arms and forced herself to remain calm, pondering the series of anomalies in these matters.

She always felt that something was slightly off.

What Lina hadn’t noticed was that in the corner of the bridge’s operations console, a young man had placed a metallic spider, two millimeters in diameter, in between the buttons.

If this spider were enlarged, one would see the Emperor Star’s insignia gleaming on it.

Using the planet Olhaif itself for cover, the Feinan slipped into the planet’s near-orbit, hidden below the horizon from the vision of five pirate ships.

In the rear cabin, the stealth boat was in the launch position, and its scissor doors slowly opened.

Yang Ming, clad in a pale grey combat suit, was stuffing his lifelike bionic stand-in robot into the ‘trunk’ of the stealth boat.

After strapping the stand-in robot in, Yang Ming quickly climbed into the pilot’s seat. Just as he was about to press the button to close the hatch, a veteran hand appeared on the opposite armrest.

Kolev, out of breath, clambered up and took his seat in the co-pilot’s position.

Yang Ming’s forehead creased with several question marks.

“First Mate, what are you doing here?”

“I’m here to help you pilot this little boat,” Kolev grinned, “the Molly No. 2 can take care of the Feinan. For the follow-up activities using the stand-in, I need to help you operate this ship.”

Yang Ming frowned lightly, “No, Kolev, according to our plan, you should be on the ship right now, making sure if Lina catches up early, to shake them off again.”

“Don’t worry, Molly No. 2 can do it. She’s already learned and recorded our previous operating pattern, and we have enough time,” Kolev fastened his safety belt, “Let me come with you, Hanton. I promise not to get off this stealth boat.”

“Why?” Yang Ming’s gaze sharpened.

Kolev was silent for a moment and then spoke softly:

“I’ve got some terrible ideas brewing in my head. If I stay on the Feinan, I could technically modify Molly No. 2’s primary loyalty target, and I could… after you take care of Kimo, turn the charade into reality by blowing up your real body. I can do it, Hanton, and that would make me the ultimate winner.

“But I don’t want to do that.

“If I were ten years younger, I definitely would have done it, so I could take back the Feinan right away.

“Let me act with you, Hanton. Let me be responsible for backing you up. We’re partners… the best partners I’ve had in decades… but I’m just a despicable pirate, and I’m afraid I can’t control my greed and desire…”

Yang Ming stared at Kolev’s wrinkled old face.

That old face was filled with grievances.

Yang Ming extended his fist to Kolev and raised an eyebrow.

“Hey! That’s kid stuff!” Kolev somewhat disapproved.

“Come on, First Mate.”

“Oh, this damned sense of ritual!”

Kolev clenched his fist, a bit feebly, and touched it to Yang Ming’s fist.

Yang Ming smiled triumphantly, rapidly pressing a series of buttons. The stealth boat’s hatch closed swiftly.

Depressurization of the rear cabin.

The simulated gravity field was shut off.

The hatch of the Feinan slowly opened, and the main and auxiliary engines of the stealth boat showed a light blue halo.

Yang Ming pushed the mechanical rudder, sliding the small boat swiftly into Olhaif’s atmosphere, activating the weak protective shield, and speeding through the thin atmosphere.

They raced toward that uninhabited city.
