Abyss System The Rise of the Lord-Chapter 71 seal theft
Shoyu entered her room. The lightness in her steps and the slight relaxation in her shoulders made it clear that her mood was uplifted. A very subtle, yet unmistakable, satisfied smile lingered at the corners of her lips.
Kilyan stopped near the door and looked at her with curiosity. His voice was cautious, but he could not hide the interest within it.
"Miss... did he agree?"
Before answering, Shoyu walked to the bed and sat down. The mattress sank lightly. She placed her hands on her knees and spoke in a calm tone.
"Yes. I told him I would give him two hundred gold."
These words struck Kilyan like an unexpected blow. His eyes widened, and a mix of surprise and disapproval appeared in his voice.
"Miss, that was all our money... are you giving it all away?"
Shoyu paid almost no attention to this. As if the matter had already been settled within her. She leaned back, glanced briefly at the ceiling, and replied calmly.
"If he can help, he will help in other cities as well. For now, money is not important."
Kilyan took a step forward, his voice lowering, but the worry within it growing stronger.
"But, miss..."
Shoyu raised her hand and gestured toward the door. The movement was not sharp, but it was firm enough to leave no room for argument.
"Leave my room. I want to rest."
Kilyan fell silent. He looked at Shoyu one last time, then placed his hand on his chest and bowed lightly.
"Very well, miss."
He slowly closed the door and left the room.
Shoyu stretched out on the bed and stared at the ceiling. Her heart beat from within, but it was not from worry—it was the excitement of an approaching result.
"It is almost over... I will succeed," she whispered.
Her eyes slowly closed, and she sank into the embrace of sleep.
Morning sunlight spread across the city. The narrow streets, high roofs, and light entering through windows announced the start of a new day. The sunlight passed through the window and fell on Shoyu’s face.
She wrinkled her face.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
The door began to knock.
"Miss," said Kilyan, entering, "morning has come. You need to wake up."
Shoyu slowly opened her eyes. For a moment, she lay silently as if realizing where she was. In the next instant, she suddenly jumped up from her place. Her hair disheveled, her eyes not fully open, she left the door and entered Zaber’s room.
Zaber was already awake. He was calmly dressing, each movement measured and unhurried.
Zaber raised his head, looked at Shoyu, and said in a cold tone.
"It would be good if you straightened your clothes."
Shoyu looked down. Only then did she notice the disorder in her clothes and began quickly adjusting here and there.
"We will start the work," she said in a hurried voice.
Zaber finished dressing and approached her. His voice was low but clear.
"Do not rush. In that state, you will fall after three steps."
Shoyu’s face grew serious. She stared at Zaber.
"You are very calm."
Saying these words, she turned back and returned to her room.
A short while later, Shoyu returned to Zaber’s room again. She walked to the middle table in the room and sat down. Her movements were calm, but a sense of urgency could be felt within her. She took the tablecloth and spread it on the table. Then, from her spatial ring, she took out cooked meat, placed it on a plate, and set it on the table.
Zaber also silently sat at the table. A short silence reigned in the room.
A moment later, Kilyan entered. He sat near the door and began quietly observing Shoyu and Zaber. Every movement and tone of theirs was important to Kilyan.
Zaber took the meat with his hand and bit into it indifferently. As he chewed without thinking about the taste, his eyes fell on the spatial ring.
A spatial ring... convenient for storing things. I need one too, he thought inwardly.
Shoyu watched Zaber eating and began speaking.
"Let us discuss the plan."
Zaber nodded, indicating agreement.
Shoyu continued in a calm voice.
"The merchants’ guild has created a copy of the royal seal of the Lanois state—that is, this country’s royal seal—and distributed it to branches. We need that seal. With it, a problem will arise between the Lanois state and the merchants’ guild. At that time, Ludovik will secretly attack the merchants’ guild. In this way, the merchants’ guild will be under double pressure and, without recovering, our people will finish their work. Measures will be taken to eliminate enslavement.
She paused briefly.
"This is the essence of my mission."
Zaber looked at Shoyu and replied in a cold tone.
"Understood. I will handle it myself."
Shoyu lost some of her composure.
"I have not told the full plan. The seal cannot simply be stolen from the guild. Its structure, dangers—"
Zaber finished eating the meat and placed the bone on the plate. His voice was cold and resolute.
"Do not try to give me orders. I told you: tell me what needs to be done, do not interfere with the rest."
Shoyu’s eyes narrowed slightly. She spoke in a soft voice, but with hidden dissatisfaction.
"Then let it be as you wish."
After that, she silently began eating.
Zaber stood, left the room, descended the stairs, and headed toward the merchants’ guild.
After Zaber left the room, Shoyu was still eating.
Kilyan spoke nervously.
"Miss, why do you trust that man? No matter what, he cannot be fully trusted."
Shoyu turned to Kilyan. Her voice was calm, her decision firm.
"What if he is human? I did not sense anything bad in him. He cannot take the seal alone—there are too many rooms in the guild; they will not let him check each one. He will return soon and obey my order."
Kilyan’s eyes fell to the floor. He whispered.
"Miss... you are too naive."
As Zaber walked through the crowded street, he fell into thought.
A royal seal... it is logical that they can prepare documents. But at the same time, it is very dangerous.
He continued inwardly.
As the price for watching me... I will make it heavy for you.
Zaber stopped in front of the merchants’ guild building. He stood silently for a moment, staring at the grand and luxurious building. The whitened stone walls, tall columns, and symbols in front of the door seemed to express stability and power from the outside.
But Zaber could see through this facade.
In a low voice, almost whispering, he said.
"Today, you will suffer a loss."
Then he entered through the door.
The low voices of merchants and the noise of documents. Zaber immediately noticed: the employee from yesterday was not behind the counter. Another person was there instead.
Zaber walked forward with indifferent steps.
"I wanted to register," he said calmly.
The guild employee replied with a polite but artificial smile.
"Of course, sir. Can you provide your documents?"
Zaber did not hesitate for a moment.
"I lost my documents. According to what I heard, it is possible to prepare them here."
The employee’s face immediately grew serious. Alertness appeared in his eyes.
"If you heard that," he said slowly, "then you probably know how it will be."
Zaber slightly raised the corner of his lip.
"Do not worry about the payment. It will be done when the work is finished."
This answer satisfied the employee. He evaluated inwardly, then smiled.
"Then good, sir. Follow me."
He examined Zaber from head to toe and led him toward the room from yesterday. As the corridor narrowed and the walls thickened, the atmosphere grew heavier.
Upon reaching the room, the employee stopped Zaber and warned in a low voice.
"Do not speak unnecessarily. Answer only the questions, that is all."
Zaber nodded, opened the door, and entered.
Inside the room sat the man who had prepared the document yesterday.
Upon seeing Zaber, he froze in surprise.
"You received your document yesterday. Why have you come again?" he said suspiciously.
As he spoke, he slowly reached for the dagger hidden under the table.
Zaber noticed this immediately.
He tilted his head slightly to one side and spoke in a deep, cold voice.
"You dared to watch me... and thought you would get away easily?"
The document preparer suddenly moved. He swiftly drew the dagger from under the table and leaped to his feet. In his haste, the chair tipped backward and fell.
Zaber, however, was completely calm.
He slowly extended his hand toward him.
"Did you underestimate me? Did you think we could play?" he said.
At that instant, the soul chain shot from Zaber’s palm.
It was about to pierce the document preparer’s chest... when his silhouette suddenly vanished.
Zaber flinched and looked around.
In the next moment, a voice came from behind.
"Fool! I am a renowned assassin!"
The employee appeared behind Zaber and attacked with the dagger.
Zaber’s eyes widened.
Too fast... he thought inwardly.
The dagger pierced Zaber’s right shoulder blade.
Blood spurted and dripped onto the floor.
Zaber’s breathing grew heavy.
"Better assassins than you have failed to kill me," he said.
A wide, dark smile spread across his face.
"Hahahahahaha!"
He sharply turned back and struck the assassin’s face with his elbow.
The employee fell to the ground. The blow was not strong, but at that moment, the second end of the soul chain pierced his body, completely disrupting his balance.
The employee clutched his chest and screamed in pain.
"What have you done to me, damned one?!"
Zaber looked at him, his eyes narrowed at the corners, his head not lowered, with a wide smile.
"Hehehe... if your flesh is sweet, I will tell you."
The employee crawled backward. Pure fear was in his eyes.
"Who the hell are you, damned one?!"
Zaber gripped the chain tightly.
"You are not worthy," he said coldly.
He pulled the chain.
The employee’s purple soul was pulled from his body.
Zaber looked at the soul with interest.
"So souls have different colors... before it was yellow."
He grabbed the soul by the throat.
The soul began to slowly disintegrate from the edges, as if melting like mist.
Zaber fell silent for a while.
"If I can hold the soul... then I can consume it. Perhaps this is how I can consume it."
He bit into the soul’s shoulder.
A piece of soul was in his mouth.
Zaber chewed and swallowed it.
"The taste is trash... but I have eaten worse."
He bit again.
Fifteen minutes later, eight-tenths of the soul had been consumed, the remaining part completely disintegrated.
Zaber closed his eyes and fell into silence. He examined his body with his senses.
A moment later, he opened his eyes and looked at his hand.
"This soul increased my mana by twenty percent," he whispered.
He clenched his fist.
"Now... let us take the seal."
Zaber walked calmly toward the table.
But he did not forget the knife pierced in his shoulder—it was not very deep.
