Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 844 - 785: Awakening
Princess saw the Blue Dragon Priest standing still, except for the natural flow of magic power on his mask, he was unresponsive. A second or two later, she felt his attention focus on her.
"What’s wrong?" Princess was quite grateful for Morocoy’s timely assistance. It had always been like this in the past, with other Dragon Priests handling local battlefields while Morocoy opened portals to support everywhere. A feeling of nostalgia arose, and the irritation of being used as bait diminished somewhat.
"It’s nothing, my student questioned the efficiency of my spellcasting process," the scholar chuckled amusedly, "He seems to think that an Arcanist like me should have several exchanges of spells before using a Forbidden Spell to defeat the enemy. A spellcaster should be efficient and direct, not like a fighter who blindly exerts force without finding the knack."
As the bait, the White Dragon Priest felt slighted, her voice colder, as if implying something.
"Bordelis would not ask so many questions."
The boastful tone sparked the Dragon Priest’s father-like protective instinct.
"The desire for knowledge is the motivation for a spellcaster to become stronger, and after independently defeating a strong enemy, I should satisfy his curiosity as a reward." Morocoy began to boast about his accomplishments, seemingly forgetting that Arnold was just a minor goal for him.
"Hmm, I’ve sent Bohr to assist the deep sea. Now, take care of this real enemy," Princess pointed at a group of ice-encased giants, "throw them into a different dimension or move them to any damned corner of a plane, just keep these filthy creations away from my ocean!"
The divinity of the deep-sea omen made the Dragon Priest feel challenged, but Princess would never willingly seal it in a neighboring mainland. Anywhere but here.
Sir Scholar raised his head, observing those sculptures, silent for a moment until pieces of broken ice fell from above.
"Maybe, no need to seal them..."
The Blue Dragon Priest stood in the melting dark tide, the floating ice calm under his feet, the ominous giants rotated their bodies, looking down at the tiny Dragon Priest beneath them. The giants no longer attempted to cross the icebergs, silently confronting the scholar with a huge rift in their chest cavities.
Princess spread her ice wings, standing behind the scholar, waiting for his next move.
"You should return." Like a spring, the magic power in front of the ominous giant coalesced into a dragon of magic power, and after a brief standoff, the dense fog dissipated and the seawater returned to its usual deep blue, leaving only the undulating icebergs and the empty beach.
Princess was somewhat surprised, "Why does the Divine Corpse listen to you?"
"Because I started mentoring early enough. Don’t worry, it’s the exploited part, no longer posing a threat."
The scholar called Kristo over to begin the work of breaking down the icebergs.
"What concerns me more is underwater, though Arnold is a dangerous devotee of the Evil God, manipulating the Divine Corpse, their target could only be that temple."
Princess shook her head, turning to help the Blue Dragon begin the thawing work, such large blocks of ice blocking the land was ultimately not a good thing.
"Waking the sleeper is not such an easy task, I’ve been prepared. Besides the required Divine Sacrifice and the necessary condition to awaken Triton, which is the song of the Merfolk, possessing magical vocal cords, the only voice that can awaken the sleeper. My chosen successor has already lost her voice."
"What about the other Merfolk?"
"Vina controls their fate."
"You can’t expect her... to be as strong as you."
"Of course I can! She’s my child!"
The scholar expressed doubt, knowing who the human involved with Merfolk Vina was. His relationship with Vina wasn’t completely finished, the Evil God’s offspring wouldn’t be corrupted by the deep-sea blessing, Vina was far from being as hopeless as Princess.
And these hopes, could also create weaknesses.
Seeing his somewhat paranoid sister, Morocoy decided to change the subject.
"So, the song of the Merfolk is a vow of adoration, and that too is part of the fairy tale."
Princess, controlling the shattering of the iceberg, did not look back.
"Dedicating to love sounds ten thousand times better than dedicating to a master."
Princess had not expected that, like her, Arnold was just a bait, a bait to use death to stall the two Dragon Priests. Vina indeed made the same choice as her, but she did not foresee the urgency of the White Dragon Bordelis. Unaware of the awakening of the sleeper, the White Dragon clashed defiantly with the dragon’s roar of extinction. Bordelis rescued the lives of the Merfolk tribe, but merely the lives.
The Ghost Pirates and the out-of-control Merfolk were evenly matched, but the rude ghosts soon tied up all the Merfolk. They were cunning and insidious, using fishing nets, pulling hair, ganging up, and other behaviors to bind all the angry girls. Drake was pleased with this until the bound Merfolk collectively spat out fresh blood.
"Vermin! I ordered you not to harm them! Control your knives! Next, I’ll stuff them down your throats!"
The ghost sailors bowed their heads under the gaze of the White Dragon, and they replied grievously: "Boss, it wasn’t us, I swear on my precious gold coins, these mermaids started bleeding before I picked up the rope."
[The song of the Merfolk... they have finished singing.] The only conscious Merfolk, Vina, ignoring the encircling pirates, clutched the fragments of the Tidal Pearl, and hurled the huge ice sphere imprisoning Serio’s spiritual body towards the White Dragon.
[Take him away from here!!! Quickly!!!]
No time to explain, Vina turned and rushed towards the temple, she had neglected her duty, made a mistake, and now needed to make amends. What drove her was not responsibility, but the panic of the situation spiraling out of control.
Bordelis clutched the ice sphere, and a half-person-tall slit exposed itself to the White Dragon as it rolled.
"It’s empty inside, Vina."
[I know...]
The Merfolk floated in the sea water, their panicked gazes fixated forward, where pirate bombardment had destroyed many structures. The dislodged coral reef accumulated here in the undertow, crushing the seaweeds, and disturbing the glowing rainbow jellyfish cluster. Freed from these impediments, Vina’s gaze could directly reach the temple.
A massive fissure set into the seabed volcanic ridge, emitting a strange pale light from the crevice. That continuous glow, illuminating the entire Coral Reef, was now flickering non-stop, urgently fluctuating like a visual heartbeat.
Serio’s resentful spirit drifted above the fissure, his spiritual body also began to flicker with the pale light.
After a dizzying confusion, the spiritual body disappeared, the temple above the crevice collapsed, sinking along with the Coral Reef. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Vina heard the singing.
From the ocean floor, from the earth’s core, from beyond sight, from beyond auditory comprehension, only perceptible by the soul.
An excited, wonderful singing emerged.
She couldn’t help but sing, praise the Lord, and all the emotions left behind.
Everything is meaningless, the Lord’s glory will illuminate all of me, body, and soul.
[The awakening, the Lord]
The planet trembles, the ocean falls into the abyss.
The sleeper Triton, awakens from his slumber.
