Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 916 - 851: We Bring About Our Own Destruction
After the descent of God, this world began to undergo drastic changes. Dense clouds dissipated, and glowing golden liquid surged from the earth beneath the sludge, swirling into luminous whirlwinds beneath the dark clouds. The scene was as though countless gaseous suns had appeared in the sky. The curtain was lifted, perfectly revealing the grandeur of the divine beings and the majesty of the world’s chroniclers beneath the light.
Every sway of a tendril sent the sludge churning, and the Creator of Evil could no longer find peace in its heart. Its creations—those inferior lifeforms—had dared, with audacious delusions, to create their own gods. Every act, every thought of theirs was an offense to it, and their presumption of defiance was an insult to its very existence.
This was no longer about guarding against variables; what came next would be total annihilation—a divine war born of differences in ideology and origin, resulting in an equal conflict of status.
[Naive hearts, incomplete powers. My bloodline, is this what you truly seek? A joke of rebellion against me.]
[The World] merged into Triton’s body. His form grew even taller, countless eyes opening upon his myriad tendrils, leaking divinity that carried unnameable knowledge. Every intelligent being caught in this mental tempest suffered immensely.
[Then come! Let new lords be born amidst the slaughter!]
Giant Nia let out a loud cry and charged at Triton. Four angels encircled Giant Nia like small fairies accompanying a girl. The power of the angels, as a part of God’s authority, became God’s limbs, assisting Giant Nia in deploying other forms of the Power of Holy Light beyond physical combat.
Triton’s colossal body was indeed heavy and cumbersome, far exceeding Giant Nia in size, by at least tenfold. Instinctively, God sensed the disadvantage in the direct clash of divine powers and endured the Evil Eye’s attacks from Triton’s tendrils as she closed in on his body. Despite possessing exceptional physical durability based on an undead colossus, her frame still seemed frail compared to the grotesque mountain of flesh belonging to the Evil God. Moreover, Holy Light confined Nia’s body to the form of a young girl, making it exceedingly awkward for her to fight against the tendrils’ vicious lunges, relegating her to childish punches and kicks.
A clumsy god, just as Triton had once said.
Overlap, merge, corrupt, whip. Triton immediately split off a thick tentacle to lash at Giant Nia. The sheer power contained in this tendril surpassed even God’s main body, and being struck solidly could have unimaginable consequences. Triton had truly resolved to deliver a fatal blow in one strike.
The Angel of Light flashed in front of Giant Nia.
"Divine Descent!"
He raised the Divine Spear to block, obliterating the malevolent curses on the tendril with the light of annihilation. The Angel of Light wielded the spear with his left hand and summoned the Holy Sword Tormund with his right, delivering a full-strength slash that carved wounds into the limbs of the divine being, sending city-destroying shockwaves rippling out.
Raymond Mellock raised his weapon, his back facing Giant Nia.
"I shall defend and block all calamities!"
The Aqua Blue Monster... the Angel of Water, descended onto Giant Nia’s shoulder. His wings flapped, casting healing Holy Light that cleansed and mended God’s wounds.
"I shall heal and erase the suffering of this world."
Nia instantly understood the purpose of these angels. She immediately reached out and captured the glowing George hovering to the side as if catching a butterfly, gripping the Angel of Fire entirely in her hand, leaving only George’s head exposed. Under divine control, George Edmund had no choice but to stare wide-eyed at her, his large, liquid eyes meeting the doll-like face of Nia, who tilted her head and gazed at him with a knowing expression.
Giant Nia turned George upside down, gripping him head-first.
Blood rushed to his head as he observed the chubby hand and the upside-down scene. George keenly realized Giant Nia’s intention, his body trembling as he screamed hysterically in resistance, trying to break free and escape. However, the Angel of Fire’s power had already fused with Giant Nia, akin to an ignition switch being activated.
Giant Nia lifted George high above her head and smashed him down toward Triton’s bloated body with all her might, yelling at the top of her lungs.
"Take this! Fire Angel Head Smash!"
No one could understand how George Edmund managed it, but before his head could be thrust into Triton’s flesh, the Angel of Fire let out a wail far more painful than death—a cry that echoed clearly in the dull minds of everyone present.
"N!M!D! I’m not supposed to be used this way!"
With a splat.
A blazing twenty-meter-long flaming blade cleaved through Triton’s body. Severed tendrils squirmed while falling, and in the pouring rain of blood, Giant Nia triumphantly brandished a Blazing Flame Light Sword.
The Angel of Fire, now acting as the sword’s hilt, glared at Triton with furious eyes. Above his head, a twenty-meter-tall pillar of fire erupted, burning fiercely, as though his anger would never extinguish.
"Ha!"
Brandishing the flame sword, Giant Nia struck a cooler pose.
Nia gifted it a name she thought was dashing: "Fire George Sword!"
"Don’t call it that!"
The flame on the sword grew even longer.
"Finish him off already! I can’t stand being this wretched weapon for even another second!"
"But, you’re really quite useful, George!"
"I’m going to kill Lyle."
The remaining three angels gathered around, staring at their furious, burning brother in Giant Nia’s grasp. Gallaron trembled and averted his gaze, Raphael burst into laughter at the sight of his flaming bald head, while Raymond stroked his chin, his expression profoundly meaningful.
"As expected of George! My proud brother!"
"Ah! Raymond!" His emotions ran so strong that he could no longer distinguish between gratitude and murderous intent.
George’s overwhelming emotions unleashed a surge of power. Four angels circled Giant Nia, launching a fierce assault on Triton.
...
Each time a piece of the divine body was severed, the chunks of flesh merged into the earth, becoming fertile soil to nurture new life. Life continually returned to the planet itself, and what was being torn apart was merely Triton’s identity as the planetary will. It seemed that this world had begun to accept the God of the Heart, accepting a god formed by human hearts.
Triton, along with his physical body, faded away completely into dust that was eroded by the wind.
The Divine Kingdom of humanity persisted, healing flesh and restoring vitality. The spiritually exhausted survivors raised their heads, gazing up at the radiant, towering deity. As the clouds cleared under her touch, the refreshed sky was like dewdrops falling into their hearts, dissolving sorrow and amplifying the relief of having survived the calamity.
Cheers broke out spontaneously. People embraced and kissed, and the various races expressed friendliness to each other through their respective customs. Even the converted alien races joined in the joy, not rejecting these gestures of goodwill.
Dawn had arrived—they were certain of it.
...
Mr. Gravity was still fiddling with the dice, his dazed expression catching the attention of his peers now that the stasis barrier had dissipated.
"Hey, Gravity, what are you staring at? The dean just sent a message—complete victory! This world has been saved because of us! Though it’s not entirely due to us specifically, the preservation of resources is something we should celebrate as members of the Salvation Association. What’s wrong with you?"
"This is the proof Nameless gave me to verify his work—the dice..."
"I know, you’ve mentioned it before."
"...The dice’s numbers represent how far fate deviates from our expectations: 0 means totally unrelated, while 100 indicates outcomes perfectly aligned with our desires..."
"Oh, simple enough."
"I didn’t pay much attention before, taking it merely as a blessing from my student. I’ve been using these dice all along..."
"That’s nice. The task of transferring Mars’s scattered soil was nigh impossible; achieving an ideal result was nothing short of a miracle. A little blessing never hurts."
"But what if it’s possible?" Gravity turned, pale soul flames flickering silently in his eyes. "What if every action results in ’success’... and every thought we have is ’realized’?"
"So, something akin to the Lich Crown’s power—a group-wide effect. Your student has indeed developed something extraordinary."
"No, it’s not as you imagine." Gravity gripped the dice tightly, making his case. "The Crown unites hearts, achieving the ultimate potential of humanity. These dice, however, materialize luck, guiding every influencing factor—including the actor—to achieve the ultimate result."
Mr. Electromagnetism wasn’t slow-witted; he quickly grasped the implication.
"You’re saying the Crown allows perfection for us, while these dice ensure perfection in our actions."
"Mr. Electromagnetism, do you think your personal limits are equivalent to the limits of [Electromagnetic Force]? The extreme of [Electromagnetic Force], the extreme of [Black Hole], the extreme of [Gravity], the extreme of [Time]..."
Mr. Electromagnetism coughed awkwardly, uneasily rubbing his palms together.
"So, what numbers did you roll on the dice?"
"I rolled them five times during the execution of our plan. Every roll came up as 100. Which means now, we are facing the ultimate consequence of perfection."
The sky darkened.
"What we’ve been drawing in isn’t some planetary fragment—it’s another nearly intact planet!"
"The Advanced Magic Research Society’s provocation has enraged Mars. Now the War God is coming!"
