It’s been a whole week since Hughes had seen Barnaby and everyone. She missed the penthouse and everyone in it, but the Adkin’s unborn heir was more important to her. Even though doesn’t want anything to do with Osvaldo anymore, that child was the future.
She walked back into her room after serving her mistress and decided to give Barnaby feedback like he had asked of her. They had both agreed to talk every weekend so that he would be at peace knowing she was fine.
Hughes has been the woman he’s loved for years. It’s quite unfortunate that after telling her how he feels, she’s no longer with him.
"Barnaby." Hughes whispered when the call went through.
"How are you?" Barnaby tried to keep his voice calm.
"I’m fine Barnaby. Are you already asleep?"
"No, I couldn’t go to bed without hearing from you. How’s miss Penny and our little grand nephew." Hughes smiled.
"We went for check up to see the wellbeing of the child and he’s okay."
"It’s a boy?"
"Two... They’re two in miss Penny’s womb. Though, we’re yet to know the gender of the children." Hughes sounded so excited.
"Do well to send my regards to Master Osvaldo and tell him not to worry too much, his Penguin and our heirs are in perfect condition." Hughes said.
"Let’s hope that he wouldn’t be offended by that. Although, for some strange reason, Master hasn’t thought of coming after you two." Came Barnaby’s words.
"This is for the best Barnaby. I don’t care if I get thrown out after this, it’s all for a greater cause."
After the brief call, Hughes hurried back to her madams side as they both planned their day together.
Since Penny was now living in this new city, she had also built a new lab and has invited her team over. Over here, they were now planning the science conference which she wanted to do back at the city.
Her apprenticeship program was on again with all of the students who had applied before being present again.
Ariana who recieved the mail screamed for joy. After being a disappointment to her parents this past few days, this was a blessing in disguise.
She would finally be of importance to them again. If she becomes miss Pen’s apprentice, it means she can find the cure to her fatness. Her mother would finally stop nagging about her getting a job to support the family and she’ll finally be counted as a true Willard.
Ariana was desperate. Her uncle’s and aunties were already mocking her mother. And for each mocking remark, Maybelline hated her even more. Everyday she praised Penny over her.
Ari was fed up. Just how fast did things turn this way? One moment she was glad that she had married Christian, the heir to the Adkins fortune so she thought.
And she was glad she had forced Penny into marriage with his sick half brother. If she had known the madman was the real deal, she would have tried to seduce him first. They all thought they had done Penny bad, but now, her sister was living the best life being the richest woman in all of Owlsgrave.
Ariana felt so jealous. Now seated in the lounge with a bar of chocolate in her hands, she stared into space as she thought of Penny. Their home that used to have maids bustling from one section to another was now empty.
Her parent’s has spent all of their money in the hospital, using their bodies as experiment for the cure of excess flatulence.
It seems they were really the first to experience that. Thought they weren’t farting as much as before, no doctor has been able to heal them completely.
Ari, locked her fingers now filled with chocolate. She was a disappointment and all she can do to help herself right now was eat chocolate.
Ari already her legs on the floor, eating her bar of chocolate when her mother stepped in.
"Mother." Ariana called the moment Maybelline stepped in.
"Mother, the apprenticeship program is back on again. Miss Pen had reorganized it and don’t worry, we’re not writing any exam this time." Ariana said with a bright smile.
"Eh, when she sees how good the other student are, I’m sure she wouldn’t bother wasting anytime picking a girl who couldn’t pass her final medical exams." May said.
"You should be reading and preparing to retake the exams rather than sitting here all day eating and getting fatter."
"Do you not know fat women are not considered beautiful in the society?" Mey asked.
"Mother." Came Ari’s cry.
"You’re aarried woman, yet your husband cannot come to you ever. He’s busy with other women who are in perfect condition. Ahh, you’re a disappointment in all areas of life." May rolled her eyes.
Ari had no idea when tears stripped down her eyes. Her mother’s words hurt her more than anything. Parents are meant to love their children no matter how they look.
These words were the words she used on Penny. Ari had no idea things would backfire this fast.
"You’re my mother, how can you be so mean?" Ariana couldn’t hide her disappointment.
"Mean, how old are you Ariana? It seems I went too easy on you that’s why you turned out the way you did. A big disappointment." May continued to destroy her with her words.
"You want to see what mean is?" She turned to the door. "Jonathan." May yelled and a man appeared.
Since they had lost their old butler, they have found Jonathan, a helping boy.
"Take the chocolate bars from her and toss them in the trash can. Also, clear the entire house of chocolate bars and everything this fat pig likes. She’ll only eat vegetables from now on." Ari’s mouth fell open at her mother’s words.
This must be a dream...
This couldn’t be her mother. Maybelline had never been mean to her.
"I trusted you Ariana. I placed my everything in you, and all I got was disappointment. Prepared to recieve more shock if you do not pass your medical exams again."
