Chapter 117: Shattered Truths

The studio lights dimmed as Lydia stepped down from the small stage where the photoshoot had just wrapped. The staff busied themselves packing equipment, but Lydia was directed to a velvet armchair for her post-shoot interview. Her stylist gave her a final once-over, smoothing her sleek blazer and touching up her lipstick.

Lydia offered a practiced smile to the interviewer as she sat down. Her long legs crossed elegantly, and her demeanor radiated polished confidence.

"First of all, thank you for joining us today, Lydia," the interviewer began, leaning forward with an eager expression. "The photoshoot was stunning. You always manage to captivate the camera."

"Thank you," Lydia replied smoothly, her voice light. "It’s always a pleasure to work with talented teams like yours."

The interviewer glanced at her notes. "Let’s start with a topic that your fans are dying to know about. What’s next for Lydia? Any new projects in the pipeline?"

Lydia’s practiced response was ready. "There are a few exciting things I’m working on, but I can’t reveal too much just yet. Let’s just say this year will bring some surprises."

"Intriguing!" The interviewer chuckled before leaning in conspiratorially. "And what about your personal life? Any romance brewing? Your fans have been speculating about your relationship status for a while now."

Lydia’s smile didn’t falter, though her heart tightened. She gave a small laugh. "I’m focusing on my career right now. Love will have to wait a bit longer, I think."

The interviewer didn’t miss a beat. "Interesting. But what about children? Do you see yourself as a mother someday?"

Her stomach sank, and a faint flicker of pain flashed in her eyes. Lydia’s smile remained steady, though her fingers tightened around the armrest. "Motherhood is a beautiful thing, but I believe it happens when the timing is right. For now, I’m content with where I am."

The rest of the interview continued seamlessly. Lydia’s responses were as polished as ever, each answer perfectly balancing charm and mystery. By the time the cameras were off, the crew applauded her professionalism, and Lydia offered warm goodbyes before heading out.

The drive home was quiet with Lydia’s mind replayed the interviewer’s questions about children. She gripped the steering wheel tightly, her knuckles whitening.

Her heart felt heavy as she pulled into the driveway of her luxurious home. Ashton’s face flashed in her mind—a smile that lit up the room, his small hand reaching for hers. How could she ever explain why she couldn’t share him with the world? It was a decision born of necessity, but it still stung.

"I’m already a mother," she whispered to herself as she parked the car. "I just can’t tell anyone."

She sighed, stepping out of the car. The night air bit at her skin as she approached the front door. The moment she stepped inside, the warmth of the house enveloped her. Lydia set her bag down on the table and kicked off her heels.

Minutes later, the doorbell suddenly rang, startling her. Lydia glanced at the clock—it was late for visitors. Her brows furrowed as she approached the door.

Standing on the porch was Cedric. His usually relaxed demeanor was replaced with a serious expression, his jaw tight, his posture stiff.

"Cedric?" Lydia opened the door wider, her tone curious. "What are you doing here so late?"

Cedric stepped inside without waiting for an invitation, his face grim. He turned to face her, his dark eyes locking onto hers. "Lydia, we need to talk."

Her stomach churned at his tone. "What’s going on? You’re scaring me."

Cedric ran a hand through his hair, a rare sign of nervousness. "Did you know that Evander is married?"

Lydia froze. The words didn’t register at first, as if her mind refused to process them. She stared at Cedric, her mouth slightly open. "What... did you just say?"

Cedric’s eyes softened slightly, but his tone remained firm. "Evander. He’s married. Did you know?"

She blinked, her chest tightening as disbelief took hold. "That’s impossible."

"Lydia," Cedric said gently, "I wouldn’t be here telling you this if I wasn’t sure." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Her legs felt weak, and she took a step back, her hands trembling. "No. There’s no way. He... He would’ve told me. You must be mistaken."

Cedric sighed heavily. "I’m not mistaken. I found out today. The woman he married isn’t just anyone. She’s... Delphinia Harrington."

Her eyes widened as the name struck like a thunderclap. She felt as though the ground had been pulled out from under her. Lydia’s mind raced, piecing together fragments of information, but nothing made sense. "No," she muttered, shaking her head. "No, you’re lying. You have to be."

Cedric frowned. "Do you really think I’d come here to lie to you? I know how much you care about him. But you need to know the truth."

The burn of betrayal seared through her chest, igniting into anger. Lydia clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms. "How could he?" she hissed, her voice trembling. "How could he do this and not tell me?"

Cedric placed a hand on her shoulder, but she shrugged it off. "Lydia, I’m sorry. I thought you knew. I wouldn’t have brought it up if I thought—"

"Leave, Cedric," she snapped, her voice sharp and cutting.

Cedric hesitated, guilt flashing across his face. "Lydia—"

"Just go!" she shouted, her eyes blazing with fury.

He nodded slowly, his lips pressed into a thin line. "If you need to talk, you know where to find me," he said quietly before stepping out into the night.

The door closed with a click, and Lydia stood frozen in the entryway, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. Anger, disbelief, and pain crashed over her in waves. She leaned against the door, her breath coming in shallow gasps as tears stung her eyes.

"How dare he," she whispered, her voice breaking. "How dare he keep this from me."

Her body trembled as she sank to the floor, her hands covering her face.

For the first time in years, Lydia felt truly lost.
