Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 195: Don’t Waste Your Energy
Night had fallen, casting a soft glow over the luxurious suite. The gentle hum of the central heating filled the silence, blending with the distant city lights shimmering through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Ashton had long gone to his room, tucked beneath the warm covers, leaving Delphinia and Evander alone in the master bedroom.
Delphinia stood by the vanity, brushing her long, silky hair as the soft yellow light illuminated her reflection. Her nightgown, made of delicate satin, clung to her slender figure, the fabric shimmering with every movement. Evander stood on the opposite side of the room, unbuttoning his shirt with slow movements. His broad shoulders flexed as he changed into his pajamas, the faint hint of muscles rippling beneath his skin.
"I should’ve fired those two on the spot," Evander muttered, breaking the quiet.
Delphinia’s hand paused mid-stroke. She turned, watching him with a small smile. "You’re still thinking about that?"
Evander glanced at her, his brows furrowed. "They had no right to talk like that."
Delphinia set the brush down and walked toward the couch, the hem of her gown brushing against the marble floor. "What exactly did they say that got you so worked up anyway?"
Evander sighed heavily, sitting down on the edge of the bed. His fingers raked through his hair, as if debating whether to tell her. The hesitation in his eyes made Delphinia’s smile soften.
"Are they talking about you?" she asked playfully. "Or Ashton?"
Evander’s eyes snapped to hers, his gaze sharp. "No," he said firmly. "They were talking about you."
Delphinia blinked, pointing at herself. "Me?"
Evander nodded, his jaw clenching.
"Well..." she tilted her head, curiosity glinting in her eyes. "What did they say? That I made a mess coordinating the party? Or maybe they didn’t like my taste in food?"
A heavy sigh escaped Evander’s lips. His dark eyes flicked toward her, frustration simmering beneath the surface. "They said... you were trying to climb your way into the Walton family. That you were using your pretty face to do all the work."
For a moment, silence hung in the air.
Then, to Evander’s utter disbelief, Delphinia gently touched her cheek with the tips of her fingers, a playful glint in her eyes. "Oh... so they think I’m pretty?"
Evander’s brows shot up, caught off guard by her reaction. "Delphinia..."
"What?" She batted her lashes at him, the corners of her lips curving into a teasing smile. "My beauty being acknowledged is a real thing, you know."
Evander narrowed his eyes, trying to suppress the amused smile tugging at his mouth. "Could you please focus on the part where they insulted you?"
Delphinia chuckled softly and rose from the couch, crossing the room until she stood in front of him. She leaned down, cupping his cheek with both hands. The warmth of her palms seemed to ease the tension in his face.
"First, thank you for getting mad on my behalf." Her voice was soft, her eyes tender. "But second... people will always find something bad to say, even if all they see is something good. They have mouths to talk, Evander. You can’t control every single one of them."
Evander’s dark eyes softened, but the crease between his brows remained. "I know... but I can’t keep my head cool when it comes to you."
Delphinia’s heart fluttered at his confession, a warmth blooming inside her chest. She smiled, brushing her thumb along his jawline. "Should I take that as a sign that you care about me that much?"
Evander’s gaze locked onto hers, his voice low and deep. "Yeah... why else?"
Her breath caught as his fingers slipped around her waist, pulling her closer. The heat of his touch burned through the thin fabric of her nightgown, making her pulse quicken. Their faces were inches apart, the air between them thick with unspoken desire.
Without another word, Evander leaned in, capturing her lips in a slow, tender kiss. Delphinia melted against him, her hands sliding down to his chest. The kiss deepened, their breaths mingling as Evander’s hand trailed down her back, his fingers brushing over the curve of her hip.
A soft sigh escaped her lips as his mouth moved along her jaw, down to the delicate skin of her neck. His hands roamed lower, sliding down her thigh through the silk fabric. The warmth of his touch sent a shiver down her spine, making her knees weak.
Evander slowly guided her back toward the bed, his body pressing against hers as they fell onto the soft mattress. His lips traced a path along her collarbone, igniting a fire within her.
But just as his fingers began to tug at the straps of her nightgown, Delphinia’s hands pressed gently against his chest, stopping him.
Evander’s breath was heavy, his dark eyes clouded with desire as he looked down at her. "What’s wrong?"
Delphinia’s cheeks flushed, her lips curling into a sheepish smile. "Tomorrow’s the party... I need my back to be in good condition, at least."
For a moment, Evander just stared at her, then a low chuckle rumbled from his chest. He leaned down, brushing his nose against hers.
"You’re lucky I love you," he murmured.
Delphinia’s heart skipped a beat, her eyes shining. "I know."
Evander sighed dramatically, rolling onto his back beside her. He stared at the ceiling for a moment before turning his head to face her. "Fine... but don’t you dare think you can run away again after the party’s over."
Delphinia giggled softly, resting her head on his chest. His heartbeat was steady beneath her ear, a comforting rhythm that lulled her into peace.
"I wouldn’t dream of it."
The room slowly filled with silence, the warmth of their bodies tangled beneath the covers. Outside the window, the city lights glittered against the dark sky. As Evander wrapped his arms around Delphinia, his mind drifted to tomorrow night.
He couldn’t wait for the party to be over—because once it was... she was his, with no more excuses.
