Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 209: Private Celebration
Delphinia stood at the rooftop, holding a small cake in her hands. The delicate white frosting glowed softly under the rooftop lights, and though the candle stood proudly in the center, it remained unlit. She glanced down at it before looking up at Evander, who had just arrived. A soft chuckle rumbled from his throat as he took in the sight before him.
"And what is this all about?" Evander asked, his deep voice carrying a hint of amusement.
Delphinia tilted her head, her lips curving into a playful smirk. "Can’t you see? This is your birthday party," she declared proudly. "A private one, just you and your one and only wife."
Evander’s eyes softened as he took a step closer, his gaze flickering between her radiant face and the cake she held before them. His heart swelled with warmth.
"A private birthday party, huh?" He hummed in thought, his lips twitching into a grin. "I have to say, I’m liking this idea already."
Delphinia beamed before shifting the cake slightly. "Hold your hands here," she instructed, gesturing toward the candle. "Block the wind so I can light it."
Following her instruction, Evander cupped his hands around the top of the cake, shielding the lone candle from the gusts of wind that swept across the rooftop. Delphinia struck a match, but just as she brought it close, a sudden gust blew it out.
"Oh, come on!" she huffed, narrowing her eyes at the flickering flame that never got the chance to burn.
Evander chuckled. "Looks like even the wind doesn’t want me getting older."
Delphinia shot him a playful glare before trying again, this time leaning in closer to block more of the wind. Finally, the flame caught, the tiny flicker dancing against the night sky.
"Quick! Make a wish before the wind changes its mind again!" she urged, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
Evander didn’t hesitate. He gazed at Delphinia for a brief moment before closing his eyes, silently making a wish before blowing out the candle. The flame disappeared instantly, leaving a wisp of smoke curling into the air.
Delphinia clapped her hands together, her expression triumphant. "There! Happy Birthday, my dear husband."
Evander let out a small chuckle, shaking his head as he tilted his head slightly. "No wonder I felt a little hollow all day," he mused, a teasing lilt in his voice. "You hadn’t wished me a happy birthday yet."
Delphinia gasped dramatically, placing a hand over her chest. "Oh dear, have I been so cruel?" she said, her eyes twinkling with amusement. Before he could reply, she leaned in and pressed a quick, warm kiss to his cheek.
Evander exhaled, a slow smile creeping onto his face as he tilted his head slightly in her direction. "You really waited until now to say it?"
Delphinia grinned, resting her chin on her palm as she looked at him. "I did. Do you know how hard it was? My mouth was itching to say it since morning." She let out an exaggerated sigh, shaking her head. "But I wanted to make it special. Anyone can say ’happy birthday’ first thing in the morning, but waiting for the perfect moment? Now that takes effort."
Evander chuckled, shaking his head at her antics. "And this was the perfect moment?"
"Of course," she answered. "Right now, with just the two of us, without any interruptions or obligations."
Evander smirked as he reached for the cake, setting it down on the nearby table. "I don’t think I’ve ever had a birthday celebration quite like this."
"That’s the point." She grinned, pulling out a chair. "Now, sit. It’s time for your birthday dinner."
Evander shrugged off his suit jacket and, before she could protest, draped it over Delphinia’s shoulders.
"Evander—"
"No arguing," he interrupted smoothly. "You planned all this for me, the least I can do is keep you warm."
Delphinia sighed dramatically but clutched the jacket closer. "You’re lucky I like how this smells." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
He smirked. "Of course you do. It smells like your husband."
Rolling her eyes with a smile, she sat down across from him. "Alright, birthday boy, let’s eat."
As they dug into the meal Delphinia had arranged, Evander took a bite and let out a satisfied sigh.
"This feels nice," he admitted.
Delphinia raised a brow. "The food? The place? Being with me?"
Evander chuckled, his deep voice laced with amusement. "Everything."
A pleased smile bloomed on Delphinia’s face. "Good answer."
They ate in comfortable silence, exchanging small glances, soft smiles, and teasing remarks. The rooftop, though vast, felt intimate with only the two of them there. The gentle glow of the city lights added to the moment, making it feel almost magical.
Once they finished, Delphinia pushed her chair back and stood, reaching for his hand. "Come on."
Evander looked at her with curiosity. "Where?"
"We’re going to dance."
His brow arched as he let her pull him to his feet. "There’s no music."
"Who needs music?" she countered, placing one of his hands on her waist and intertwining the other with hers.
Evander chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "You’re something else, you know that?"
"You love it," she teased.
He sighed, feigning reluctance before pulling her closer. "That I do."
They swayed slowly, the city skyline behind them shimmering like a sea of stars. The wind whispered around them, but neither of them noticed. All Evander could feel was Delphinia pressed against him, her warmth seeping through his shirt, her scent wrapping around him like a comforting embrace.
"Happy Birthday, Evander," she murmured against his chest.
Evander tightened his hold on her, resting his chin on the top of her head. "Best birthday ever."
A soft chuckle escaped her lips. "It’s not over yet."
Evander pulled back slightly to look at her. "Oh?"
Delphinia met his gaze, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Nope." She smiled mysteriously. "There’s still one last thing."
Evander’s curiosity piqued. "And what might that be?"
She simply grinned, refusing to answer.
And with that, the night continued, full of mystery, warmth, and love Evander never imagined before.
