Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 212: Just Her Luck
"We’re going to what?"
"We’re going to the hospital today," he repeated, straightening his cuffs as he stood by the breakfast table.
Delphinia blinked up at him, a spoonful of yogurt halfway to her lips. "Hospital?" she echoed, setting the spoon down. "Why? I feel fine."
Evander arched a brow, lips curving into a knowing smirk. "You’re pregnant, sweetheart. We need to confirm everything is okay."
She exhaled dramatically, resting her chin on her palm. "We already know I’m pregnant. Why do we need a doctor to tell us what we already know?"
"Because I need professional confirmation," he replied, leaning down and pressing a lingering kiss to her forehead. "And I want to make sure our baby is healthy."
The sincerity in his voice softened her resistance, and she sighed. "Fine. Let me get ready."
An hour later, they arrived at the hospital. The sterile white walls, the faint scent of antiseptic, and the quiet murmur of staff moving through the halls created an atmosphere that made Delphinia a little uneasy. Evander, on the other hand, remained calm, his hand firm on her lower back as they walked to the reception desk.
"We have an appointment under Delphinia Walton," he told the receptionist, who typed away at her computer before nodding and directing them to the obstetrics department.
Once inside the examination room, the doctor greeted them with a warm smile, gesturing for Delphinia to sit.
"Since it’s still very early," the doctor began, "we’ll start with a blood test to confirm your hCG levels and make sure everything is progressing normally. We may also check your progesterone levels to ensure a stable pregnancy."
Delphinia nodded, her fingers gripping the edge of her blouse. She hadn’t even considered how fragile this new life might be. Evander stood beside her, his presence grounding her as the nurse prepared to draw her blood.
"You might not see much on an ultrasound yet," the doctor continued, "but if your hormone levels look good, we can schedule one in a few weeks."
Delphinia inhaled deeply as the needle pricked her skin, the moment feeling more real with each passing second. She turned to Evander, expecting his usual calm and composed demeanor, but instead, she found something else—pure, unfiltered awe. His sharp features had softened, his eyes locked on her as if seeing her in a new light.
"This is real," he murmured.
She swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded. "Yeah. It is."
Evander let out a small huff, his lips pressing into a slight pout as he leaned back in his chair. His fingers absentmindedly traced along Delphinia’s arm, his usual patience nowhere to be found.
"I really don’t want to wait," he muttered, his voice just shy of a grumble. "I wish we can see our baby now."
Delphinia’s lips twitched with amusement as she turned to look at him fully. His expression was serious—almost brooding—but there was an unmistakable softness in his eyes. The kind of quiet longing that made her heart swell.
She reached out, resting a hand against his cheek as she chuckled. "Be patient, Evander. Just a few more weeks, and we’ll get to see a glimpse."
His brows furrowed slightly, but the pout didn’t completely disappear. "A glimpse isn’t enough," he argued, but there was no real heat in his words. "I want to see everything—know everything. What they look like, if they have your eyes or mine..." His voice trailed off as his fingers gently brushed against her stomach, his touch reverent. "Waiting feels unbearable."
Delphinia smiled, shaking her head fondly. "You’re acting as if it’s years away," she teased. "It’ll be here before you know it."
Evander sighed dramatically, but the small smile tugging at his lips gave him away. He dipped his head slightly, pressing a warm, lingering kiss to the top of hers. "Fine," he conceded, though it was clear he wasn’t entirely satisfied. "But only because I have no choice."
She laughed, leaning into his touch, her heart feeling lighter than it had in days. "That’s right," she teased. "No choice at all."
And yet, despite his impatience, despite his grumbles, Evander looked at her as if she had given him the world.
The doctor smiled at their cute interaction before said, "We’ll have the results soon. For now, just focus on taking care of yourself. Stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, and we’ll see you back in a couple of weeks."
After cleaning up and receiving a few pamphlets, they were ready to leave. Evander still looked slightly dazed as they stepped out into the hallway. He kept glancing at Delphinia as if he couldn’t believe what just happened.
"You okay?" she teased, nudging him with her elbow.
"More than okay," he admitted, slipping an arm around her waist. "I just can’t believe it."
She smiled. "Well, you better start believing, because this is happening."
Just as they were about to leave, Evander suddenly paused.
"Wait here for a second," he said. "I need to use the restroom."
Delphinia sighed but nodded. "Fine. I’ll be right here."
Leaning against the wall, she let out a content breath, hand resting over her stomach. This pregnancy was still new, still unbelievable, but for the first time, she was excited about it.
Then, her mood soured instantly.
At the far end of the hallway, a woman caught her eye. Tall, blonde, and wearing an expensive-looking dress. Even from the distance, Delphinia could recognize her. Sandra Robinson. Her former sister-in-law. The mere sight of her made Delphinia’s stomach churn with disgust.
She turned on her heel, wanting to leave before she was noticed, but it was too late.
A firm grip latched onto her wrist, yanking her to a stop.
"Oh my God," came the sickeningly sweet voice. "It really is you, Delphinia."
Clenching her jaw, Delphinia slowly turned her head, meeting Sandra’s smug expression.
Just her luck.
Of all the people she could have run into today, it had to be Sandra. Delphinia could already feel her patience thinning at the mere sight of the woman’s smug expression. The grip on her wrist was firm, almost possessive, as if Sandra had any right to stop her like this.
What was she even doing here?
Taking a slow breath, Delphinia willed herself to stay composed. She had no interest in playing whatever game Sandra was eager to start. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t already preparing herself for whatever passive-aggressive nonsense would come next.
Because with Sandra, there was always something.
