Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 218: Dream Woman
The grand reception hall buzzed with murmurs as Delphinia and Evander stepped toward the newlyweds. Under the shimmering chandeliers, all eyes seemed to be on them, but Delphinia paid them no mind. Her focus was on the two people standing before her—Kai and Adalaine.
Kai’s expression was stoic, though his shoulders tensed as their gazes met. Adalaine, on the other hand, wore a forced smile, her grip tightening on Kai’s arm. The moment was thick with tension, an invisible war raging between them, but Delphinia was unfazed.
With a bright smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes, she extended her hand. "Congratulations on your wedding," she said in a cheerful tone, shaking Adalaine’s hand first before turning to Kai.
Both of them hesitated, but with so many eyes watching, they had no choice but to accept the handshake. Kai’s fingers barely brushed hers, his palm cold against her warm skin. Adalaine’s grip was limp, as if touching Delphinia was the last thing she wanted to do.
"Thank you," Adalaine muttered, forcing a tight-lipped smile.
Kai, however, barely spoke. His lips parted as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he simply let out a barely audible, "Yeah, thanks."
Delphinia withdrew her hand and immediately reached into her clutch, retrieving a small bottle of hand sanitizer. Without hesitation, she sprayed it generously onto her palms, rubbing them together as if she had just touched something filthy.
Delphinia kept her expression composed as she rubbed the sanitizer into her skin, her fingers working over every inch as if she could scrub away the memory of touching them. The cool liquid dried quickly, leaving behind a faint, clean scent that contrasted sharply with the lingering disgust simmering beneath her skin.
Did she do something wrong?
Of course not.
She had simply shaken hands with two of the most ungrateful people in the world. And now, she was making sure there were no remnants of them left on her.
A few guests stifled chuckles upon seeing the gesture, and a few whispers arose from the crowd. Kai’s jaw clenched, his grip on Adalaine’s waist tightening, while Adalaine’s face turned red with barely concealed rage.
Evander, who had been watching the entire exchange with amusement, finally spoke. "Congratulations to you both as well," he said smoothly. His voice held an edge of politeness, yet there was a certain weight behind his words. "My wife and I were looking forward to attending."
Kai’s lips curled into something that might have been a smirk, though it lacked true amusement. "Oh, so the rumors were true then? Evander Walton really married Delphinia Harrington?" His tone carried a mocking disbelief.
Delphinia kept her expression neutral, though inwardly she scoffed. Of course, the rumors had reached Kai. He must have been stewing over it ever since he heard. She simply lifted a brow, waiting to see what else he had to say.
Kai tilted his head slightly, his gaze flickering between the two of them. "Didn’t think you were the type to fancy a woman who was once married."
Delphinia felt her blood simmer at his audacity. Bringing up the past? Typical.
Evander’s response was immediate, a low chuckle escaping his lips as he pulled Delphinia closer, his arm wrapping protectively around her waist. "And why wouldn’t I?" His voice was calm but carried a deadly undertone. "Delphinia is beautiful, intelligent, and brave. I fell for her completely, and I married her as soon as I could."
Delphinia felt warmth rise to her cheeks at his words. Though they had agreed to marry for their own reasons, Evander’s ability to make her feel truly cherished in moments like these never failed to affect her. She let a small, almost bashful smile cross her lips, adding to the effect.
Kai’s smirk faltered, his fingers twitching slightly at his side.
Evander wasn’t done. "And you, Kai, must be over the moon now that you’ve finally married your dream woman." He turned to Adalaine, his gaze unreadable. "I can only imagine how long you two must have been waiting for this moment, growing your love for one another."
Adalaine’s lips pursed at his words, but Kai’s expression darkened. His once-confident posture stiffened, the hidden jab cutting deep. He forced a smirk, but it was shaky. "We’re actually the same, then. Both of us married the woman we wanted all along. Didn’t take much time either."
Delphinia’s patience snapped. She shot him a glare, ice-cold and laced with disdain. Did he really think to compare himself to Evander? The thought alone was laughable. Kai was nothing like him. Evander was a man who valued what he had. Kai, on the other hand, was a fool who discarded something valuable only to regret it later.
Not wanting to waste another second on them, she turned to Evander and whispered, "Let’s go."
He nodded, not sparing Kai and Adalaine another glance as he led Delphinia away.
As they walked off, Delphinia could still feel the seething stare burning into her back. She didn’t have to turn around to know it was Adalaine glaring daggers at her.
Adalaine clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palm. Her stomach twisted in anger, frustration bubbling within her. This was not how things were supposed to go. Delphinia was supposed to be suffering after being discarded by Kai. She should have been struggling, pitiful, alone. And yet, she was far from that. She had Evander Walton. The Evander Walton.
Her jealousy was suffocating.
She turned to Kai, expecting him to be just as enraged. But what she saw made her blood boil even more.
Kai wasn’t looking at her. His eyes were fixed on Delphinia’s retreating figure, his gaze too intense, too lingering.
Adalaine’s nails dug deeper into her palms.
"Stop staring," she snapped under her breath.
Kai blinked, as if he hadn’t even realized what he was doing. He let out a small breath, his expression unreadable. "I was just... surprised to see her again. She looks... different."
Adalaine narrowed her eyes, her heart pounding. Different? What did he mean by that?
She followed his gaze, watching as Evander leaned down to whisper something in Delphinia’s ear, making her laugh softly. The sight made her stomach churn.
Kai let out a small, almost sad smile, his gaze lingering on Delphinia one last time before he turned away.
But Adalaine saw it.
And it made her feel sick.
