Chapter 238: A Husband’s Rage

Delphinia stormed into the house, her face twisted in frustration as she slammed the door behind her. The anger bubbling in her chest hadn’t subsided, but now, disgust crept in, making her skin crawl. She couldn’t stop staring at her wrist—Kai’s grip had been too tight, and an angry bruise was beginning to form.

"Bastard," she muttered under her breath, walking straight to the kitchen. She yanked open the freezer, the cold air rushing over her face as she rummaged inside until her fingers found the familiar shape of an ice pack. She pulled it out, wrapped it in a thin towel, and pressed it against her wrist with a sharp inhale.

Delphinia leaned against the kitchen counter, the cold of the ice pack against her wrist offering some relief, though not enough to fully erase the anger still roiling inside her. She stared at her wrist, noticing how the bruise was already starting to form, a deep purple hue beginning to spread across the delicate skin where Kai had grabbed her earlier.

Her pulse quickened, her breath shallow as she traced the outline of the bruise with her fingers, feeling the tenderness of it. He really grabbed me that hard.

It wasn’t just the pain, it was the fact that he felt so entitled, like he had the right to touch her like that. To treat me like some possession. The thought made her stomach churn, and she squeezed her eyes shut as if to banish the image of his hand on her wrist, holding her like she was some kind of prize to be claimed.

Who the hell does he think he is?

The chill soothed the burning ache, but it didn’t erase the feeling of his touch. She bit her lower lip in frustration, pressing the ice harder against her skin. She hated this. Hated that he had touched her. Hated that his voice still rang in her ears. Hated that for a moment, she had allowed him to get under her skin again.

I need a shower, she thought bitterly. She needed to scrub away every lingering trace of him.

The days passed as if nothing had happened. Delphinia went about her routine, filling her hours with work, conversations with Elaine, and moments of laughter with Ashton. Yet, every time she glanced at her wrist, she was reminded of the encounter. The bruise had darkened, deep purple bleeding into shades of blue and green.

That night, when the house had fallen into silence and Evander had long since drifted to sleep, she crept downstairs. The kitchen was dimly lit by the soft glow of the moon filtering through the windows. She silently pulled the ice pack from the freezer and pressed it against her wrist again, hissing softly at the cold sting.

"What are you doing?"

Delphinia nearly jumped out of her skin at the deep, groggy voice behind her. She spun around, her heartbeat erratic as Evander stepped into the light. He was shirtless, his sculpted torso illuminated faintly by the moonlight, his dark eyes locked onto her with quiet intensity.

"N-Nothing," she stammered, instinctively hiding her hand behind her back.

Delphinia’s heart was still pounding as she tried to steady herself, her pulse racing in a way she hadn’t anticipated. She had never been good at hiding things from Evander. And now, standing there, she realized that trying to pretend everything was okay was probably a mistake.

Evander’s eyes narrowed. He strode toward her with slow, deliberate steps. The closer he got, the harder her heart pounded. When he reached her, he didn’t say a word. He simply reached behind her, his fingers brushing against her skin as he grasped her wrist and brought it forward.

The moment he saw the bruises, his entire expression darkened. His jaw clenched, and his grip on her hand became rigid. "Who?" His voice was low, almost a growl, dangerous in its quiet intensity.

Delphinia hesitated. "Kai."

Silence.

The air grew heavier between them, crackling with tension. Evander’s chest rose and fell with slow, controlled breaths, but his grip on her hand tightened for a fraction of a second before he let out a sharp exhale. "I’ll kill him."

Delphinia should have been concerned by the sheer rage in his voice, but instead, warmth bloomed in her chest.

She shook her head with a small smile. "As much as I love that idea, I’d rather not have you in jail."

Evander exhaled through his nose, still glaring at the bruise. He took the ice pack from her and gently placed it back on her wrist, his fingers pressing against her skin with a tenderness that contrasted the storm raging in his eyes.

"How did it happen?" he asked, his voice calmer now but no less intense.

Delphinia sighed and told him everything—how she had run into Kai, how he had blocked her way, how he had begged for a second chance, and how he had gripped her wrist when she rejected him. When she got to the part where Kai had asked her to come back to him, Evander’s entire body went rigid.

He pressed the ice pack too hard against her wrist.

"Ah—!" Delphinia winced in pain.

Evander immediately pulled back. "Shit. I’m sorry."

Delphinia let out a small laugh despite the pain, shaking her head. "You don’t have to ask what I told him, do you? If I chose him, you wouldn’t see me standing here in front of you right now."

Evander let out a slow breath, then smirked, though his eyes still held remnants of his anger. "That’s right."

He lifted her wrist to his lips, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to the bruised skin.

Delphinia shivered at the warmth of his breath. The contrast between the ice’s cold and his lips’ heat sent a strange thrill down her spine. She looked up at him, her heart swelling with affection.

Evander met her gaze, his expression softening as he whispered, "I’m far better than him."

Delphinia smiled, leaning into his touch. "You always were."
