Chapter 243: Clash of Rivals

The tension in the room exploded the moment Evander’s fingers curled tighter around Kai’s collar. His knuckles turned white, his jaw clenched so tightly it ached, and his chest rose and fell with deep, measured breaths as he tried to suppress the boiling rage within him.

Evander’s mind was spinning with rage. He had tried to be civil. He had tried to reason with Kai. But the man standing in front of him—this arrogant, insufferable creature—was beyond redemption. He had crossed a line that Evander couldn’t, and wouldn’t, allow to go unpunished.

The moment Evander’s hand tightened around Kai’s collar, something snapped in him. The anger that had been simmering beneath the surface, all the frustration, the disrespect that Kai had shown to Delphinia—it all came rushing forward like a flood, and there was no stopping it. Not anymore.

Kai’s eyes glimmered with arrogance, but there was a flicker of hesitation now. The cocky smirk was gone, replaced by a look of unease, though he was still trying to hide it. His hands gripped Evander’s forearm, trying to free himself from the chokehold that was slowly suffocating him, but he wasn’t going anywhere.

But Kai had no such restraint. His lips twisted into a smirk, one that made Evander want to break his nose. "What’s wrong, Evander? Scared because you know she used to be mine?"

That was it.

With a forceful shove, Evander sent Kai stumbling backward. The chair behind him toppled over, skidding against the polished wooden floor with a loud screech. Kai barely regained his balance before Evander lunged at him, landing a solid punch to his jaw. The impact sent Kai’s head snapping to the side, a sharp grunt escaping his lips.

"You bastard!" Evander growled, shaking his hand from the sting of the punch. "You think you can talk about Delphinia like she’s some object? You lost her the moment you treated her like trash."

Kai wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, his tongue running over the inside of his cheek where he had been struck. He turned back to Evander, eyes dark with fury, and without warning, swung at him. His fist connected with Evander’s ribs, making him stagger back slightly. But Evander didn’t go down. Instead, he countered with another blow to Kai’s stomach, making the man double over briefly.

Their fathers, who had until now been silent, finally stood up, their voices booming over the scuffle.

"Enough!" Victor roared, his face flushed with anger as he slammed his cane onto the ground. "This is not how we handle things!"

"You two are acting like children!" Gregory added, his expression stern, though there was a flicker of something else in his eyes—disappointment, perhaps?

Neither of them listened.

Kai straightened, shaking off the lingering pain from Evander’s punches, and lunged forward. The two men collided again, their bodies crashing against the heavy mahogany desk in the middle of the office. Papers scattered onto the floor, a glass of water tipped over, spilling onto important documents no one seemed to care about in that moment.

Gregory, standing in the corner, let out a long, audible sigh. His gaze flickered between the two men with a sense of disbelief. They were no longer men in his eyes—just two reckless, stubborn children.

Victor, leaning against the doorframe, crossed his arms, his face set in a grim expression. "Unbelievable," he muttered, barely audible over the sound of fists hitting flesh. He ran a hand through his graying hair and shook his head. "This is what it’s come to?"

Neither man seemed to care about them. Both were too wrapped up in the fight, lost in their egos, their pride. They were acting like animals, fighting over territory that neither of them truly owned.

Evander’s fist collided with Kai’s jaw with a sickening crack, but Kai barely flinched, instead grabbing Evander by the collar and slamming him back into the desk. The impact caused another round of papers to scatter, but neither man noticed.

"She was never yours," Evander spat, blocking another hit from Kai before gripping the lapels of his jacket and slamming him against the bookshelf. "You had her. You broke her. And now you think you can just take her back like nothing happened?"

Kai, despite the situation, grinned through gritted teeth. "You don’t get it, do you?" he breathed, voice laced with venom. "Delphinia and I—we have history. You’re just a replacement."

Evander saw red.

With a guttural growl, he drove his fist into Kai’s stomach once more, making him cough. "History means nothing if she doesn’t want you," Evander snapped, pushing Kai away with enough force to send him stumbling once more.

Kai wiped his lips again, this time looking down at the blood smeared on the back of his hand. His smirk faltered, eyes narrowing. "You think you’ve won?"

"I don’t have to think," Evander said coldly, his breathing heavy. "She chose me."

Before Kai could retaliate again, Victor stepped between them, his face dark with frustration. "That is enough," he barked, his voice carrying the weight of authority. "This meeting is over. If you two can’t act like civilized men, then there is nothing more to discuss."

Evander straightened his jacket, his glare still locked onto Kai. His blood was still hot, his fists still tingling from the punches he landed. But he had nothing else to say. Delphinia wasn’t here to hear any of it, and at the end of the day, her feelings were the only ones that mattered.

Kai, however, wasn’t done. He took a slow step forward, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth before smirking again. "This isn’t over, Evander."

Evander let out a scoff. "Yes, it is."

With that, he turned and walked out of the room, his chest still heaving with adrenaline. Kai watched him go, his fists clenching at his sides as he thought to himself—this wasn’t over. Not by a long shot.

Delphinia would be his again. No matter what it took.
