Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 244: Reckoning in the Hospital
The drive to the hospital was tense. Delphinia sat beside Elaine in the backseat, her fingers curled into her lap, nails pressing into her palm. Her heart pounded against her ribs, an unsteady rhythm fueled by anger and concern. Just minutes ago, they had been enjoying a peaceful afternoon in the mansion when Elaine’s phone rang. As soon as she answered, her face hardened, and she turned to Delphinia with urgency.
"We need to go to the hospital," Elaine said, slipping her phone into her bag.
Delphinia straightened. "What? Why?"
Elaine let out a breath, her expression serious. "Evander got into a fight."
Delphinia blinked. "With who?"
Elaine’s lips pressed into a thin line before she answered. "Kai Robinson."
A sharp jolt of disbelief shot through her. "What?!"
But before she could demand more details, Elaine had already signaled the driver to move, leaving Delphinia to simmer in confusion and worry. Why in the world would Evander fight Kai? Did something happen? Did Kai provoke him? Of course, he did. Kai was a bastard who knew exactly how to push buttons. The idea of Kai standing there, smug and arrogant, made Delphinia’s stomach turn.
In the car, her hands tightly folded in her lap as the wheels hummed along the road. Her fingers trembled slightly as she pressed them together in a silent prayer. She wasn’t particularly religious, but at that moment, she found herself clutching onto the only thing she could.
A prayer for Evander. A prayer that the situation didn’t escalate, that nothing serious would happen to him, that he would come out of this unscathed.
But more than that, she prayed that Kai would get what he deserved. That he would suffer for what he had done, for the way he had manipulated and hurt everyone around him. She didn’t care if it was physical pain or emotional humiliation—she just wanted him to feel the consequences of his actions.
When they finally arrived at the hospital, Delphinia barely waited for the car to stop before stepping out, her heels clicking against the pristine floor as she hurried down the hall. Elaine followed closely behind, her posture poised but her eyes flickering with concern.
As soon as Delphinia reached the patient room, she pushed open the door and found Evander sitting on the hospital bed, his expression calm but his hand wrapped in gauze. Victor stood beside him with a grim look. The tension in the air was heavy, but all Delphinia could focus on was Evander.
"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice rushed as she crossed the room to him.
Evander glanced at her, his lips curving into a small smirk despite the situation. "I’m fine. Just a bruised hand." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Delphinia shot him a glare. "Bruised for punching Kai?"
Evander gave a casual shrug, clearly unbothered. "He deserved it."
She exhaled sharply, stepping closer. Her fingers gently reached for his injured hand, her eyes scanning for any sign of deeper damage. "Really? Nothing else? Let me see."
Evander chuckled, letting her inspect him, though his other hand reached for her waist, pulling her closer. "I told you, it’s nothing. I already told my father not to make a big deal out of this."
Delphinia frowned, not convinced. "You shouldn’t have fought him."
Evander’s smirk disappeared, his expression darkening. "I don’t regret it."
Before she could press further, a knock on the door interrupted them. The air shifted instantly, and Delphinia’s gaze snapped toward the entrance. When the door opened, Gregory and Kai stepped in.
The moment Delphinia saw Kai, her expression hardened. Rage bubbled inside her, and her hands curled into fists at her sides. She didn’t need to hear a word to know this was all his fault.
Gregory, however, seemed far more cautious. His eyes flicked between Victor and Evander before he cleared his throat. "We came to—"
"I don’t want to hear it," Delphinia cut him off coldly, her sharp gaze locked onto Kai. "Not from you. Not from him."
Kai’s jaw tightened, his usual arrogant demeanor slipping slightly under the weight of her glare. But before he could speak, Victor stepped forward, his presence commanding.
"If you two are here, I assume you understand the gravity of the situation," Victor said, his voice steady and edged with warning.
Gregory sighed, nodding. "We do. And we apologize for the trouble this has caused."
Victor’s gaze didn’t soften. "Not good enough."
Kai stiffened. "What else do you want?"
Victor’s eyes sharpened. "You will apologize directly to Evander. Stop hiding behind your father."
Kai’s hands balled into fists at his sides, his pride clearly making it difficult. But when his father shot him a warning look, Kai clenched his jaw and forced the words out. "I apologize."
Evander smirked. "I didn’t hear that. Speak up."
Kai’s eye twitched, but he repeated louder, "I apologize."
Delphinia rolled her eyes. "Pathetic."
Victor wasn’t done. His cold gaze flicked back to Kai. "Now to Delphinia."
Kai snapped his head up. "What?"
Victor’s voice was like ice. "You and your father mistreated my daughter-in-law. If you want to leave this room with any dignity, you will apologize to her as well."
Kai looked like he wanted to spit fire, but Gregory turned to him and gave him a look that left no room for argument. With reluctance, Kai finally turned to Delphinia.
"I apologize," he said stiffly.
Delphinia tilted her head, eyes narrowing. "For what?"
Kai’s jaw flexed. "For everything."
She gave him a slow, unimpressed blink. "Try harder."
Kai inhaled deeply, nostrils flaring. "I apologize for treating you badly in the past."
Delphinia smirked. "That’ll do."
Before they could turn to leave, Victor delivered his final warning, his voice dangerously low. "If Kai ever tries anything again, let’s see what the Walton family can do to destroy Robinson."
A heavy silence filled the room. Gregory nodded stiffly, grabbing Kai’s shoulder before dragging him toward the door. As they left, Delphinia let out a long breath, tension slowly leaving her body.
Evander pulled her onto his lap, pressing a kiss to her temple. "You okay?"
She leaned into him, finally feeling at ease. "I should be asking you that."
Evander smirked, holding her close. "Don’t worry about me. I’ll always be fine."
And somehow, Delphinia believed him.
