Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 245: Unforeseen News
The ride home was quiet, though the tension from the hospital visit still lingered in the air. Delphinia sat beside Evander, sneaking worried glances at him despite his insistence that he was fine. Elaine and Victor were seated across from them in the car, with Victor busy on his phone, likely handling business matters. Elaine, on the other hand, was observing Delphinia closely, a knowing smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
As soon as they stepped foot inside the mansion, Delphinia turned to Evander, her arms crossed. "Go rest," she instructed, her tone firm.
Evander smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I told you, it’s just a bruise. Nothing to worry about."
"Humor me," Delphinia huffed, placing a hand on his chest and pushing him lightly towards the stairs. "You threw punches with Kai Robinson today. I don’t care if you think you’re indestructible, just lay down for a bit."
Seeing the worry etched across her face, Evander gave in with a chuckle. "Alright, alright. If it makes you feel better, I’ll rest." He took her hand and squeezed it lightly. "But only if you join me."
Delphinia rolled her eyes but couldn’t stop the warmth spreading through her chest. "Fine."
They made their way to their bedroom, and Evander immediately flopped onto the bed, patting the spot beside him. Delphinia slid in next to him, curling up against his side as his arm draped over her waist. Her head rested on his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart, grounding her in the moment.
Just as her body began to relax, a knock on the door broke the peaceful silence.
Delphinia sighed, untangling herself from Evander’s embrace. "Stay here," she told him before slipping off the bed and heading to the door.
Sienna stood there, her usual composed expression in place. Behind her, the head maid spoke up, "Madam, your sister has come to visit. She is waiting downstairs."
Delphinia blinked in surprise. "Lyvia?"
Sienna nodded. "Yes, ma’am."
Delphinia glanced back at Evander, who was propped up on his elbow, watching her with a soft smile. "Go on," he encouraged.
Taking a deep breath, Delphinia made her way downstairs. As she stepped into the sitting room, she saw Lyvia seated on one of the couches, waiting patiently. The moment their eyes met, Lyvia stood, offering a small smile.
"Lyvia," Delphinia greeted, feeling a slight awkwardness settle between them.
"Delphinia," Lyvia responded in kind. "I hope I’m not disturbing you."
Delphinia shook her head and gestured for her to sit back down. "Not at all. How have you been?"
"Good," Lyvia said, then hesitated before adding, "I was wondering how you were. After everything."
Delphinia studied her sister’s expression, half expecting tension after her last visit to the Harrington estate.
Delphinia’s smile faded just slightly as she leaned back in her seat. She looked at her sister, wondering how much she really knew. Lyvia’s expression was serious, almost concerned, but there was an underlying wariness, too. Delphinia could sense it—the invisible wall between them that hadn’t been there before, not like this.
After everything.
That phrase stuck with her.
She hadn’t seen Lyvia that day, though. She hadn’t seen her at all when she barged into the house.
Could it be that Lyvia had been there and she simply hadn’t noticed? Maybe she had been hiding somewhere, avoiding the scene. She had a tendency to do that—stay in the background when things got too messy.
Or was it possible that Lyvia had been there and Delphinia was too blinded by rage to even see her? After all, she had been so caught up in her own emotions, so consumed by the confrontation with their father, that she couldn’t focus on anything else. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
But Lyvia seemed as she always had, gentle and reserved, as if nothing had changed.
"I’ve been alright," Delphinia finally answered. "And you?"
"I’ve been... dealing with some things." Lyvia exhaled slowly, her fingers playing with the hem of her dress. "That’s actually why I came here. I have something to tell you."
Delphinia tilted her head, curiosity piqued. "What is it?"
Lyvia hesitated again before speaking. "Father is going to divorce my mother."
Delphinia’s eyes widened slightly, though deep down, she wasn’t entirely surprised. She had told her father to rid himself of Helena. Maybe, for once, he had actually listened.
She leaned back against the couch, nodding to herself. "I see... It’s probably for the best."
Lyvia searched her face, as if trying to decipher her reaction. "You’re not shocked?"
"No, not really." Delphinia gave her a knowing look. "If anything, I think it’s an upgrade for him. A life without Helena breathing down his neck is an improvement. No offense."
Lyvia let out a breath, something unreadable flickering in her eyes. "I suppose you’re right."
Delphinia was about to ask more when Lyvia suddenly added, "But that’s not all."
A sense of unease settled in Delphinia’s stomach. "What do you mean?"
Lyvia looked directly at her, her voice quieter now. "Our father... he’s in the hospital. He fell sick."
Delphinia froze.
For a moment, it was as if all the air had been sucked out of the room. The words echoed in her mind, heavy and disorienting.
"What?" she finally breathed out.
Lyvia nodded solemnly. "He collapsed two days ago. The doctors say it’s due to stress and exhaustion."
Delphinia’s fingers tightened around the fabric of her dress. She wasn’t sure how to feel. A part of her had long detached itself from their father, unwilling to care after years of mistreatment. But another part... another part couldn’t ignore the fact that, despite everything, he was still her father.
"I thought you should know," Lyvia added softly.
Delphinia swallowed hard, her mind racing. Her father was sick. In the hospital.
What was she supposed to do with that information?
The room felt suffocating, the weight of the news pressing down on her. Yet, amidst all the confusion, one thing became clear—whether she wanted to or not, she would have to confront the past once again.
