Achieving Nothing, I Can Only Be the Pirate King-Chapter 575 - 336: Did Heaven Hold a Grudge Against You? (2)
"Ah, what are we discussing here."
Marika brought up a few servings of snacks, handing them over to Gin, who was standing guard outside the captain’s cabin. After he distributed them, she smiled and said:
"In two hours, the food will be ready. Until then, enjoy some snacks."
"We’re talking about Sage’s bad luck. Wow, cake, my favorite!"
Renedia gleamed as she accepted the cake Gin handed over.
Sage exhaled a puff of smoke, pressed the cigar into the ashtray, and then emptied the gemstone wine glass, "I’ll say it again, I’ve had some bad luck, but the storm has nothing to do with me!"
Lily didn’t say anything, just turned to look at Renedia, "Is the ship alright?"
"Don’t worry, it’s already damaged anyway. We’ll repair it once we return to O’hara." Renedia replied.
That collision by Sage knocked down half of the first-floor banquet hall, but the supports held, so the captain’s cabin on the second floor remained unaffected.
Apart from here, other areas have varying degrees of damage, further exacerbated by the relentless falling thunderbolts.
But since everything needs repair anyway, it didn’t matter to Renedia.
As long as it can sail, it’s fine.
After the battle concluded and Big Mom retreated, no one expected the ship to remain intact.
They barely rested on the island for less than two hours when this violent storm hit, turning Scope Island into a land of thunderfall.
According to Moriah, islands full of thunder do exist in the New World.
But this was completely different. Those are caused by the island’s climate, whether innate or acquired, the climate is just there, this climate, however, was clearly a sudden occurrence.
Given the storm’s violence and thunder’s descent, of course, they didn’t stay long on Scope Island. After confirming the local mayor was decent and had no ruling power, they planted a flag to return later.
But once they left, the thunder stopped striking the island and targeted the Death Star instead.
And it only got worse.
Now they could only brace against the thunder while sailing, fortunately, the pirate ships behind were just tossed around by the wind and rain, apparently less severe than what the Death Star endured, so they could still navigate for now.
But here lies the problem...
Even if it’s just lightning, why does the storm intensify exclusively against one ship?
What does this mean?
Even though Sage repeatedly claims it’s unrelated to him, some things can’t just be explained away—the facts are right there.
He did snatch Homiez from Big Mom, but who knows... maybe the heavens simply don’t favor him?
This storm itself is a form of evidence...
...
While the people on the ship sighed at their misfortune, on an anonymous uninhabited island, a structure resembling both a ship and a fortress stood docked, connected by a giant balloon at its top.
The words "WE NEWS" were written upon it.
This was the headquarters of the world’s largest newspaper, the ’World Economic News’, also dominator of the news industry among the underworld’s six major industries.
"Big news!"
"All big news!"
Inside a room resembling a newsroom, a pigeon was flipping through photos one by one.
Most photos depicted a sea region where two fleets engaged, but the majority featured a battle between Big Mom and Sage on an island.
There were shots of both sides exchanging attacks, under a gloomy sky punctuated by descending thunder, making both sides appear terrifying.
The photos weren’t taken close up, but they were sufficiently clear from a distance.
One picture specifically captured the retreat of the Big Mom Pirates.
"Big Mom actually fought against Disaster and even retreated!"
The pigeon’s eyes were full of excitement, as a wing-shaped arm, like a fist, pounded onto a blackboard in front.
"Why hasn’t the Navy issued a Wanted Order? This is major news on the sea—one is a ’Four Emperors’, the other a strong competitor, and now the competitor has even repelled the Big Mom Pirates!"
The pigeon, none other than Morgans.
One of the six emperors of the underworld, dominator of the news industry, the individual who single-handedly established the world’s largest newspaper, ’World Economic News’.
"And why wasn’t this photo brought to me sooner!"
Holding a photo in his hand, he shouted to the crowd: "News is all about timeliness. How long has it been since this happened, and I’m only finding out now? We are the World Economic News for goodness’ sake!"
The photo wasn’t of Sage and Big Mom’s battle, but of a white-haired man with his back to the camera, facing a hovering azure dragon in the sky.
White hair flowing, the terrifying azure dragon, under a gloomy sky, paired with a shattered island...
Utterly sensational!
"Boss, we just got this recently..."
One of the staff members said: "There wasn’t any related news before."
"This involves two ’Four Emperors’. ’Disaster’ Sage clashing with two emperors in such a short time is enormous news. We didn’t even mention it, let alone feature it. If the recent buzz hadn’t occurred, were we just going to passively wait for the news to come knocking?"
Morgans exclaimed: "We are news reporters; getting first-hand information is most important!"
’Disaster’ Norton Sage, his name is literally thunderous.
Due to what is now called the ’Summit War’ between the Navy and the Whitebeard Pirates, not only at the time but also for a long while after, it still captured people’s attention.
Just the follow-up news provided ample material for newspapers big and small to cover, leading to very impressive sales.
As someone who entered the scene later but captured significant attention, Norton Sage also became a topic of discussion.
He’s the great pirate who destroyed Marineford and even slaughtered the Heavenly Celestial Dragon!
Especially after he conquered a nation and took over a country, the stories spread widely, and many reporters still stayed in Storm City, waiting for news at any moment.
He’s an extremely newsworthy character, and any explosive stories could certainly claim the front page.
So what happened?
Twice he fought with the Four Emperors, and still, he received no news!
"Boss, it’s true no one knew about Disaster’s battle with the Hundred Beasts. You know, the Death Star is considered a ’Black Ship in the Storm’, no one dares to follow, they’d capsize upon setting out."
"Had the Disaster Pirates not summoned their entire crew, we wouldn’t have known about their clash with Big Mom, and we had no right to go over. This was... acquired through other channels," the staff member stated.
Other channels...
Clearly, those were surveillance ships.
The Navy on board, besides reporting to the World Government, would occasionally sell some news to the media, earning a bit on the side.
This is an unspoken rule.
"Forget it..."
Morgans waved his hand, pinning the photos on the blackboard one by one, and, stroking his chin, he mused:
"Recently, there haven’t been any explosive news stories. The last big headline was when something happened on the Navy’s side, yet specifics were unknown, only ’Aokiji’ leaving the Navy; that made the front page."
"Then there was Blackbeard who captured Hive Island, and before that, ’Disaster’ Sage taking over Gares. But now, there aren’t any good stories."
"Hmm... Let’s maintain the layout as usual, and headline with Trafalgar Law being titled as part of the Seven Warlords of the Sea."
"Boss, aren’t we choosing the Disaster topic?" A staff member asked.
"Hehe..."
Morgans laughed lowly: "Although this is enormous, the Navy hasn’t issued a reward. The news has to be compiled to explode properly. We have exclusive information, so there’ll be no shortage of sales. This time I want us to sell out!"
"Disaster isn’t someone who stays calm; he will undoubtedly take action soon. Let’s keep a close watch on him. The Navy will issue a new bounty sooner or later, and then we’ll release all these stories together, creating an explosive effect!"
Morgans spread his wings, fervently declaring: "Imagine, a new Pirate Emperor—what explosive news! Coupled with the Navy’s cooperation, it would surely create a sensation."
"And Blackbeard, that guy shouldn’t be underestimated either. If both of them make it to the news, two strong contenders for the ’Four Emperors’ title will definitely draw even more attention!"
"Wait, just wait a little longer... Keep a close eye on Disaster recently. We need first-hand information; make sure to capture his movements!"
