Addicted After Marriage: Marrying My Abstinent Boss-Chapter 191: Don’t Keep Thinking of Me; It’s Bad for Your Health
Mr. Sterling took Harry Langley, two female secretaries, and the legal team abroad.
The next morning.
Sophia Lowell woke up earlier than usual.
Aunt Sutton, who had just come in to make breakfast, saw her and apologized, "I’m sorry, ma’am, the breakfast isn’t ready yet."
Sophia sipped water from a cup in the kitchen, dressed in her casual home wear.
"It’s fine. I get up early once in a while too."
"Should I prepare breakfast earlier tomorrow?" Aunt Sutton asked.
Sophia paused for a moment and said, "No need, just keep it warm in the pot."
Aunt Sutton nodded, but she still planned to prepare breakfast a bit earlier the next day. The lady of the house was kind-hearted; despite her saying nothing, with the man of the house away, she was surely feeling a bit empty inside, and finding it hard to sleep was normal.
She intended to switch things up with the breakfast tomorrow.
Sophia left the kitchen, changed her clothes, and went to the exercise room to practice yoga.
With Zane not at home, sleeping alone was indeed uncomfortable for her. She couldn’t sleep at night and woke up early in the morning. The emptiness beside her, the lack of someone placing water on her bedside in the morning—all felt like something was being drained from her heart.
Passing by the treadmill, she thought of Zane getting up early to run for half an hour every morning. Shirtless, wearing only shorts, drenched in sweat on the treadmill—a vision that suddenly annoyed her.
Zane had only been gone for less than ten hours, and she was already missing him.
She sat on the yoga mat, warmed up, and slowly started practicing yoga.
In less than half an hour, Hugh Irving’s call came through.
She put it on speaker, continuing her yoga routine without stopping.
[Speak.] Sophia adjusted her breathing.
Hugh paused for several seconds on the call, [Is Mr. Sterling at home?]
Sophia was puzzled by her question, [No, he left at midnight last night. What’s up?]
[Which man are you with?]
[Do I have to be with a man?]
[No, it just sounded like you were on a bed, I thought Mr. Sterling was still at home.] Hugh said.
Sophia chuckled and slowly stopped, [Miss Irving, I never realized your mind was so filthy.]
[Are you going out today, or should I come over? There’s something I need to discuss.]
[I’ll go out.]
Sophia ended the call.
She certainly didn’t want to stay at home. A pile of work was waiting at the studio, and with Zane not at home, the vast villa seemed even more desolate.
Living alone, turning off the lights at night always made her feel as if there were people everywhere.
After breakfast, she headed to the studio.
Hugh was already there, cutting fabrics.
The studio on the second floor of the backyard had just been renovated, and the Lynch family had paid a significant sum.
This wasn’t merely a renovation; it included compensation for the destroyed works, materials, and all the delayed expenses they had to cover.
This brought numerous troubles to the studio.
"You said you had something to discuss, what is it?" Sophia put down her bag and watched her cutting fabric.
Hugh stopped her work and sat by the coffee table, sipping water.
"Two things. First, Faye Ellison mentioned going to Westmere tomorrow, already scheduled, and she’ll be taking Teacher Hale for a break. Just wanted your input on that, I’m okay with it," Hugh said after taking a sip of tea.
"Should be no problem, Westmere has a lot of fun places to visit, it’s a good idea. But both my moms have already gone out to have fun, so I probably won’t be going," Sophia replied.
Zoe Walsh had taken Autumn Lowell out for some relaxation, so they likely wouldn’t return soon.
"The second thing, Ethan Sinclair mentioned this morning, Tim Sawyer—your half-sister—is in the neighboring country as well. She’s been there for some time. It seems she headed to the same place as Mr. Sterling when we saw her at the café last time,"
Hugh said with a look of disdain as she pursed her lips.
Continuing, she said, "Don’t know if she knew ahead of time that Zane would be there or if it’s a coincidence, but felt it necessary to inform you."
Sophia contemplated it.
Last time, it was Leon Lynn—the overseas manager of the design department—having coffee with Tim Sawyer.
Now, Zane not being by her side was already concerning, and hearing that Tim Sawyer was in the same place made her more uneasy.
Previously, she mentioned going abroad for development, who knows if that was true.
Sophia frowned.
Why did Tim Sawyer suddenly tell her she wanted to go abroad for development?
"No matter what she does, it won’t make much of a difference. Just hearing her name feels unlucky." Sophia felt even more annoyed.
"Don’t worry, Ethan has already informed Zane," Hugh stood up and resumed cutting fabric.
"It’s not that I’m worried about Zane, just concerned about some people stirring up trouble on their own." Sophia followed her and began working alongside her.
They spent the whole morning in the studio, and when Corinne Chapman arrived, they were still discussing waistline issues.
"Mr. Sterling sent some food over," she said at the door. "It’s still hot, why not eat something first?"
Sophia was taken aback, "Zane had it sent over?"
"The delivery person said Mr. Sterling ordered it this morning."
"Go ahead and eat," Sophia told Hugh.
Hugh and Corinne went downstairs.
Looking at her phone, Sophia wondered if calling now might disturb his rest.
As she hesitated, Zane called with a video.
She quickly accepted it.
On the other end, Zane’s face looked stern, but upon seeing Sophia, his eyes brightened, though red streaks in his eyes and a weary look were evident.
[Did you get drunk?] Sophia asked worriedly.
Sophia had seen him drunk only once, during the company’s IPO celebration.
This time didn’t seem much better.
[Yes.]
He had just landed and had to socialize, drinking quite a lot, wanting to nap but couldn’t sleep.
Thinking she might be about to have lunch, he called, as the food should be arriving soon.
[I heard you didn’t sleep well last night?] Zane asked with a nasal voice.
[How do you know?]
[Aunt Sutton said you woke up early, probably couldn’t sleep thinking about me, right?] 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
[...] He always knew how to flatter himself.
[Eat when you should, drink when you should, stop thinking about me all the time, it’s bad for your health.] Zane chuckled, seeming less sleepy.
[Did you not sleep all night either? Why don’t you nap a bit?] Sophia felt a pang of heartache seeing him like that.
Was he always like this during business trips?
Before they got married, she often saw him on business trips. This was his first one since their marriage. It wasn’t as easy being a CEO as it seemed.
[I can’t sleep without someone warming the bed.] He paused, raising the phone to reveal his muscular chest, [Did you miss me?] he asked, his voice tired and hoarse.
Sophia felt her cheeks warm up, grateful no one was around, getting overheard would be mortifying.
This man, feeling frisky.
He never liked wearing pajamas when sleeping.
[Want to see something else you like?] He smirked, glancing toward the bottom of the video.
[I don’t want to see it.] Sophia quickly cut him off.
He was being outrageous!
[He really misses you.]
[Get some rest, or you might collapse from exhaustion. I need to go down for lunch.] Sophia swallowed, her throat dry.
Zane reluctantly agreed.
[Goodnight, sweetheart.]
[Goodnight.]
[Call me hubby.]
[...]
[Just once?] Oh, it’s the first time seeing him act spoiled.
A flushed Sophia, unsure how often she had called him that before.
[Sweetheart?]
Bringing the phone closer, Sophia whispered, [Goodnight, hubby.]
Zane swallowed hard, feeling uplifted.
