Adventurer's Guild Café: I Was Wrongfully Exiled by the Saint, So I Will Enjoy My Second Life with My Fluffy Friends-Chapter 3.7 - Did We Start a Fluffy Café?
“Aww, so cute!”
“So soothing! Fluffy creatures and cute girls! This is the best!!”
A group of female adventurers gathered in a corner of the café “Silver Ribbon”, excitedly chatting and having fun.
“Kuu-chan is really great at finding interesting things, huh?”
“S-sorry…”
Ruri, who had been in the kitchen, laughed as she looked at the area where the women had gathered.
“Oh, it’s fine. More and more women are coming to the café just to see the cute spirits.”
“It’s not every day you hear about spirits getting attached to people,” Dan muttered, cutting a raspberry pie on a plate to cool it for Lulu.
Sensing the delicious smell, Lulu came running over, with three fluffy Mokomots perched on her back.
After the big explosion incident, the three Mokomots never left my side and have been living with me ever since.
Even when I go to work, like a child clinging to their parent, they follow me all the way to the café.
Since I couldn’t lock them in the room, I ended up bringing them to the café, and for some reason, they became the stars of the shop.
Everyone couldn’t stop adoring them, constantly calling them cute and melting over their fluffiness.
The Mokomots didn’t seem to mind at all, so I asked Ruri and Dan for permission and placed a basket in a sunny spot, where the Mokomot were kept.
Since Mokomots are only found in dungeons, they were a rarity, even to adventurers, so everyone was fascinated.
“Peeep”
“Hmm? What’s up? You want some too?”
Lulu, unable to wait any longer, was wagging her tail excitedly, and the chicks that were sticking close to her also started chirping.
Dan, for the chicks’ sake, carefully cut the pie into small, bite-sized pieces and put them on a plate. Of course, Lulu got a proper slice.
“You guys are working hard too, so you deserve this.”
“Hehe. They’re the ones bringing in customers, aren’t they?”
Ruri and Dan are very generous.
Even though I offered to pay, they made extra food for the Mokomots and Lulu, saying it was no big deal.
Everyone is a spirit, so they don’t need to eat, but they’re all still food lovers.
By the way, each of them has their own favorite food.
Lulu gets the raspberry pie.
Lili (yellow) gets the pudding.
Pipi (pink) gets the peach tart.
Lala (light blue) gets the cream soda.
Truly, these spirits are such little indulgent creatures…
As I absentmindedly watch the spirits eating, I noticed that Lili, in her haste, had gotten a piece of tart stuck in her throat.
I quickly tapped her small back with my finger.
With a cough, Lili spat out the leftover food.
“Come on, you can’t do that. Eat slowly.”
“Peeep”
Lili nodded with teary eyes and then started pecking at the tart again with her tiny beak.
Maybe because it’s rare to see them eating, more customers started gathering around.
“Still, it’s rare. A Mokomot getting attached to a person.”
A red-haired female swordsman crossed her arms and said.
“I’ve been an adventurer for over ten years, and I’ve never seen a spirit get attached to someone like it has with Kuna.”
“You’re not a monster tamer, are you?” she asked again, so I nodded.
“That’s amazing. To be able to take a Mokomot out of a dungeon like this. Did you know? When a Mokomot evolves, it turns into a beautiful bird.”
Apparently, like Lulu, Mokomot also have the potential to evolve.
As a feature of spirit evolution, the most distinctive trait is that their form changes completely when they evolve.
I have no idea what form Lulu will take.
The same goes for the Mokomot. It seems that most of them will turn into birds, but what kind of bird they will become isn’t known yet at this stage.
Looking through the encyclopedia, some are described as birds with a shape that flickers like flames, others with beautiful tail feathers. There are even birds with rainbow-colored feathers.
“And! They even lay eggs that contain useful magical items!”
The female swordswoman said, her eyes sparkling.
“Hey, Kuu! If those Mokomots ever lay magical item eggs in the future, be sure to show me!”
I promised the swordswoman that I would show her, even though it seemed like the Mokomots might return to the dungeon before they grew that large.
“Dan, we have an order. One ‘Mugu mugu’ hot egg and cheese sandwich, please.”
A lighthearted girl’s voice echoed inside the café.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a water-colored twin-tail bouncing around.
It was Solaris-chan.
Solaris-chan, wearing an apron, was writing something on an order slip.
“Thanks, Solaris-chan. It’s really helpful having so many cute girls around!”
“I always help at home, so it’s no problem.”
Solaris-chan smiled bashfully.
Why is she working here?
Well, it’s because she contacted Ruri about wanting to work here.
In the end, Solaris-chan was scolded quite a bit by her parents after that.
On top of that, since she had caused me trouble, she agreed to help out at the café for a while.
I told her over and over that it was my own problem and that it was fine, but Solaris-chan shook her head firmly.
“I’m grateful to you, Kuu-neechan. Besides, I wanted to get a part-time job at the guild anyway. I want to become an appraiser at the Adventurers’ Guild in the future.”
She said, smiling.
“And if I come here, I can see the Mokomots, right? It would be sad to only have this one.”
Solaris-chan had given a Mokomot the name “Marumo” and had been taking care of it in that warehouse.
And just like how the Mokomot clings to me, one orange Mokomot was also sitting on Solaris-chan’s shoulder. It was named Marumo, just like the one in the warehouse.
Feeling sorry for it being alone, Solaris-chan would bring it here when she worked part-time, letting it play with Lulu and the others.
With that, the café’s team suddenly grew.
“Hey, waitress. If possible, could you come over here, the girl from the White Wolf tribe?”

…And with that, another problem arose.
◆
“Um, your order?”
I cautiously approached the table where I was called, holding a tray.
“Hey, hey. How about having a little chat with us?”
At the table, two staff knights were sitting in chairs.
One was a flashy-looking man with brown hair.
The other was a sharp-looking woman.
They were the two who suggested I should be taken back to the Staff Knights during that incident.
“Do you remember our names?”
“…Vito-san and Heather-san, right?”
They had talked to me several times already, so I had already remembered their names.
“That’s right. So, have you thought about coming to join us?”
…Not again with that conversation.
I felt a sigh rising, but the woman… Heather, looked at me sharply and said:
“We haven’t heard about the curse purification matter either. Also, where exactly are you from?”
“We just want to ask you a few things.”
“We’re not trying to scare you. We want you to come to the Staff Knights’ headquarters and talk with us.”
Hearing that, my tail drooped.
…In the end.
It seems that the curse was lifted after pulling that thick, gooey stake out of the inflated Mokomot. However, to really lift a curse, they say strong purification magic or a prayer from a priest is needed. If that’s not available, the person who cast the curse must be the one to remove it.
That’s why I think the two of them suspect that I lifted the curse because I cast it in the first place… At least, Heather definitely thinks so.
As for me, I only pulled out the stake, and I really didn’t do anything else.
I think it was actually Lulu who purified that stake.
“…It was probably Lulu who purified it, not me.”
Maybe.
The way I said it, unsure of myself, probably didn’t convince them.
On the contrary, Heather looked at me with a stern expression.
“…Right now, the headquarters is analyzing the curse. Even if you try to hide it, it will be found out, you know?”
But it wasn’t me…
I don’t have that kind of magical power or courage…
As my ears drooped in silence, Vito, who had been acting a bit flashy, asked in a sharp, probing tone.
“How do you get that Carbuncle to obey you? Could it be that you forced it to come with you? Because selling rare monsters is illegal, you know?”
“If that’s the case, we’ll have to arrest you.”
“What?!”
It isn’t like that with Lulu.
I’ve never once thought that I dislike being partners with her…
As I was stunned, my mouth opening and closing, a pink blur suddenly darted across my vision.
“Whoa!?”
It slammed straight into Vito’s face and he fell over backward.
“Ruuuu!”
“Ah, hey, Lulu!”
The pink blur seemed to be Lulu. I quickly pulled Lulu off of Vito.
“No, no, Lulu! What are you doing!?”
“Ruhn!”
Lulu snorted and turned her head away, looking sulky.
She seemed to be in a bad mood.
The Mokomots also chirped and flew, landing on my head.
“Ouch, ouch…”
“Are you okay?!”
“Ah, yeah… ow!?”
When Vito stood up, a loud bang echoed as something else happened.
“What have you two been doing to Kuu-chan, huh?”
Ruri had hit Vito on the head with her tray.
“Don’t lay a hand on my employee!”
“Everyone has one or two pasts they’d rather not talk about. We’ll guarantee this child’s status. Simon would say the same. So please, stop asking hurtful things.”
It was Dan who said that.
Both of them were angry.
“You’re just captivated by Kuu-chan’s cuteness, aren’t you? You just can’t admit it, but you want to be friends, right?”
The female knight said, laughing.
“You all are so stiff-minded, huh! But you can’t keep Kuu-chan all to yourselves. Kuu-chan is everyone’s idol, after all.”
She stuck her tongue out and said it like that.
Other adventurers started gathering around, surrounding the staff knights. With smiles on their faces, they were cracking their knuckles.
What a terrifying smile…
“You’re not planning to do anything to Kuu-chan, are you?”
“…”
Heather let out a deep, deep sigh.
“Vito, let’s go home.”
“Yeah… I suppose.”
The two of them stood up and placed their money on the table, briefly glancing at me before speaking.
“We will find out the truth behind your power someday.”
But I don’t have any power…
“Ah, thank you! Please come again!”
For now, I gave a small bow.
For some reason, everyone in the shop seemed to slump.
“Kuu-chan, if you don’t like those customers, you don’t have to let them come back.”
“Huh? Is that so?”
Well, it’s not that I dislike them, it’s just that the interrogation was scary. But as long as they’re here to eat, I don’t mind at all. Besides, it’s not really my decision.
“Everyone, I’m sorry. If you have any orders, please let me know.”
For now, I bowed to the customers as well.
“Then, I’d like to have the tea you made, Kuu-chan.”
“…Yes!”
Well, despite everything that happened, the number of customers increased, and the number of people I lived with increased too…
Maybe, in the end, it wasn’t so bad.
