Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 199: The Colosseum (17)
At the call of the announcer both girls erupted with power. Violet with the purple hue of void, Luna with the chilling iridescent glow of the Arctic.
Neither girl was willing to hold back, both understanding that this was something that they both wanted to do.
Spears and bolts formed around Violet in an instant, Luna dashed forwards as her form split into 4, spears of her own ice forming around each of her ’bodies’. It was a statement of their determination, of their drive to improve and to grow.
Violets first volley of spells was intercepted by Luna’s own magic, yet Violet did not stop at a single volley, no she continually summoned and shot innumerable attacks as her opening move, the arena being bathed in the purple hue of her void.
Luna and her illusions danced through the barrage of spells, mainly focused on avoiding all that she could, only opting to parry some away with a sword when dodging was made impossible.
Ice met void, neither side showing a true advantage. Where the void struck the ice, the ice was erased in an instant, yet that also caused the void to cease. New ice grew rapidly into place, filling in the spots that had been erased by Violet’s attacks.
With the distance between them only being around 10 meters at the start of the fight, cut did not take long for Luna to close the distance between them. One of her bodies reached Violet’s side, her sword thrusting forward to impale her abdomen.
Violet’s tail lashed out, coated in a thin layer of void it collided with the flat of the blade, shattering it and leaving her open to retaliation in the form of a void bolt slamming into the chest of the illusion, shattering it and leaving one less foe for Violet to contend with.
With the first of Luna’s illusions dealt with, Violet turned around to block another strike with a void shield. The ice sword skittered off the summoned defence, yet she had no time to celebrate that as she felt more attacks heading her way.
Violet’s mana surged and a ring of void bolts were summoned in a circle around her torso before shooting out in all directions.
Luna was forced to step back, appearing half a dozen meters away to dodge the attack. One more of her illusions managed to avoid the blow yet the other was struck and also shattered just like the first.
The two companions stood apart carefully observing one another, smiles still etched on their faces.
They stayed like that for a prolonged heartbeat before once more rushing towards one another. Well at least Luna dashed forwards, Violet on the other hand blinked to her side.
When she appeared besides Luna’s real body she summoned one of her void spears and grabbed it with her hands before thrusting it forward with all her might.
Saddly for Violet she was not very experienced with wielding a weapon, this inexperience, coupled with the strange sensation of actually holding onto manifested void caused her to delay her strike just enough for Luna to respond.
She twisted out of the way by bending in an impossible angle, her ice sword coming around to cut right through the spear. Yet Luna forgot one important fact about Violet’s void spears, that being that they tended to explode.
The explosion forced both girls to be sent stumbling backward and away from one another. Violets hands were left bleeding and shacking from being in direct contact with it when the spear exploded. Luna was better off that violet, yet she was still forced to resummon her sword back as the explosion almost entirely erased it.
But Violet was not a stranger to pain, she did not let the fact that her hands were rendered near useless to stop her from continuing her assault. A fresh barrage of bolts was rapidly summoned and fired forwards to intercept the approaching illusion, with 2 spears fired towards Luna’s main body.
Whilst Luna herself managed to avoid the incoming spears her illusion was unable to deal with the wall of void bolts sent its way, with a crack like shattering ice her last illusion was removed from the fight.
Violet did not halt her attack now that only one Luna was left in play, redoubling her barrage. Luna was forced to race around the arena, ducking and weaving in between the deadly barrage. She was forced to void step away when she saw a condensed beam of void slicing through the air towards her.
She appeared behind Violet, both swords raised as she sliced them both down aiming for her back. Violet reacted near instantly, a shield appearing behind her whilst her tail lashed out aiming underneath the shield.
Luna anticipated this and changed the angle of her attack to bring both of her swords down on the incoming tail, Violet yelped in pain as her tail was cut through to the bone, a layer of ice coating the limb and afflicting Violet with the slowing debuff.
Violet once more fired a omnidirectional barrage of void bolts, forcing Luna away and giving her enough time to begin casting her next skill. A magical circle began to form behind her, slowly etching itself into reality with runes of nothingness.
Luna, knowing just how devastating that skill was did not want to allow Violet to cast it successfully. So she went on the attack, unwilling to allow Violet the time to complete her skill.
She appeared in front of Violet, her swords lashing out in a deadly blur. At the same time a constant stream of Violet ce spears formed around her as she tapped into Arctic fury and allowed the chill of the Arctic to rain down endless waves of ice spears, well at least until she ran of out mana. Each of the spears was slightly larger than her normal conjured spears, slightly more jagged and more primal.
Violet was forced to retreat as she fended off Luna’s seemingly never ending assault. Shields of void appeared only to be shattered moments later, streams of bolts launched out to intercept the rain of spears aimed at her. With her tail out of action and her hands in poor shape, Violet was forced to block the blows that made it through to her with her arms and legs, leaving dozens of cuts plastered across her body.
Yet Violet was still calm, she withstood the barrage, knowing that she needed to hold out for just a few more seconds until her cannon was ready.
Those few seconds however, were some of the longest that Violet had ever experienced. When her cannon was finally ready to cast her body was littered with cuts that weeped frozen blood. Still her cannon was ready and her smile widened.
Luna knowing the danger of that cannon leapt backwards willing her barrage of spears to target the fully formed magic circle in the air.
The ice spears closed in on the circle that now pulsed with purple light. When they were but inches away from it, the circle activated. Luna threw up the largest shield of ice that she could, reinforcing it by manifesting her domain to bolster the skill.
The incoming ice spears were erased, hardly slowing down the void cannon at all, yet that minuscule delay was enough for Luna’s defences to come into effect.
The cannon impacted the shields of ice with devastating force. Erasing all that it came into contact with, but the void was not endless, Violet did not imbue as much power into it as what she used with Ivan. Still the cannon did punch through the layers of ice, resulting in a meter wide hole cut right through the frozen defences.
Yet their was no sign of Luna behind the shield, Violet was momentarily worried that she had managed to kill her companion but that instinct was quickly crushed when she felt movement behind her. She whipped her head around, her instincts screaming of mortal danger.
Violet did not think, she did not understand what was about to happen just that she felt true danger for the first time of the fight.
When her eyes beheld what it was that was behind her, Violet’s eyes opened wide, yet they seemed to move in slow motion, in fact everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. Everything except for the power building up within her throat.
Luna who had void stepped behind Violet had promptly activated frozen moment, freezing everything around her, yet she still watched in shock as Violet turned around and witnessed the purple glow emanating from her throat. Still Luna was committed at this point her sword having been changed out for a spear as it was thrust towards Violet’s head.
When the spear was just about to pierce through Violet’s head, Violet’s own dragon breath fully emerged, a beam of void, more powerful than any void cannon she had ever cast erupted from her maw. It flew forwards with cataclysmic power, heading straight for Luna.
The world unfroze, reality seemed to crack before the arena was bathed in a blinding purple light before a golden glow briefly flashed as it protected the looser of the fight.
